About Alumni Affairs and
External Relations.
The motto of Alumni Affairs and External Relations is to
coordinate international activities of IIT Guwahati and
promote relationships with foreign academic and
research organizations. It is also responsible to
internationalize academic programme and IITG Research
Collaborations.

Challenges Faced by IITG
•
Fluctuations of full time foreign student admission
through ICCR and Embassies.
•
Fluctuations in Exchange students admission
•
Academic Calendar differences with the foreign
universities. Hence, sometime it is difficult to
materialise student exchange with such universities.
•
Medium of instructions is also a challenge. In Some
European Countries medium of instruction either in
French or in German
•
Fund arrangements / No Earmarked fund for
Internationalization
• More involvement of faculty is highly recommended.
• Increased Inter IIT interaction and showcase the
capability of IIT system to the international community.
• A liberal policy may be adopted to hire international
faculty at IIT system for longer period.
• Stronger participation in International Rankings. Also
the IITs and MHRD must strongly engage with the
agencies (like QS, THE etc.) to make the ranking methods
relevant to the context of India in general and IITs in
particular.

up the quality of the Institute
• Internationalization of IITG Research Collaborations.
• Faculty exchange programme with foreign universities.
• Student Exchange Programme with the foreign
universities.
• Provide exchange benefits to the foreign universities
(like, NO Tuition Fee, NO dormitory charges) etc.
•
Support and frame policies for International visiting
faculty members.
•
Frame policies to enhance full time / exchange
international students.
•
Frame policies for Double Degree , Joint PhD Degree
with foreign universities
•
Conduct Foreign Language courses at IITG (like
Japanese, French and German(in pipeline)
•
Technology Transfer

• Attracting best foreign students worldwide to study at IITG/IIT
system.
• World- renowned research that attracts the best academics
worldwide to work with IITG.
• Develop web-based materials in respect to our international
activity to act as a gateway to internationalization of IITG.
• Develop our Alumni Network to build reputation of IITs in the
key countries and regions.
• Support our domestic students to achieve greater
international experiences through a range of academic MOUs
/ agreements with foreign partners.
• Separate hostels, house and Mess with international
standards for foreign students and faculty members
• MOU Drive: outreach MoUs to establish SEP, Joint PhD, and
Double Degree, MOUs / Agreements with foreign universities.
• Create Brand Awareness in various countries worldwide with
strategic focus.
• Offer support to domestic faculty members to visit the reputed
and foreign universities and at the same time attract best foreign
visiting faculty to research with us through appropriate
memoranda of Understanding.
