Pentecost Celebra on
at St. Barbara’s
Pentecost is fi y days a er
Easter and marks the descent of
the Holy Spirit on the apostles.
Tongues of fire came to rest on
each of the apostles. This filled
them with the Holy Spirit
allowing them to go out and
minister to people everywhere.
“When the day of Pentecost
came, they were all together.”
Acts 2:1
You are invited to join together
at an overnight Pentecost Vigil to
celebrate this awesome event in
our history. The outdoor fire will
be lit at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on
Saturday, May 14th and the vigil
will con nue through the night
un l a morning prayer service at
7:00 a.m. Sunday, May 15th.
Join us indoors for Eucharis c
adora on and quiet, personal
prayer. Praise and worship
music, a sung Eucharis c
adora on, is from 8:00--9:00 p.m.
Reconcilia on will be available
from 7:00--8:00 and 9:00--10:00
p.m. Outdoors you can gather
around our fire pit for reflec on
and fellowship. Come for a few
minutes or stay for a few hours.
Volunteers are needed to be
hourly guardians of the Eucharist
or tenders of the fire. You can
sign up a er Masses this
weekend or contact Dorothy Ball
708-485-6184 or
nddlball@a .net.

Thank You
Saturday April 23rd, had
perfect weather for refreshing
our Parish Grounds. A group of
21 adults and children completed
many tasks.
Mulching, sweeping, weeding,
racking, trimming and plan ng.
Thank you to all who shared part
of their Saturday, to accomplish
so much in connec on with
Brookfield’s Project N.I.C.E.
Centennial T-Shirts
Not too late to purchase a
Centennial T- Shirt for Mother’s
Day…May 8th and Father’s Day…
June 19th. Also don’t forget to
get one for yourself to show your
St. Barbara pride…especially with
the 4th of July Parade a couple
months away. How GREAT it
would be to have at least 100
parishioners walking together in
Centennial Tees.
Short Sleeve Blue Adult Small
to Extra-Large and Youth Small to
Large size Tees are available at
the Resource Room at Church for
$10 each. Larger Adult sizes and
Long sleeve Shirts are available
for special order and extra
charge.
Council of Catholic Women
All members of St. Barbara
Council of Catholic Women are
invited to a end the May
Crowning and Installa on of
Officers on Tuesday, May 3rd, at
6:30 p.m. in the church. The
2015-16 final CCW General
Mee ng will immediately follow
in the Parish Center at
approximately 7:00 p.m. with
refreshments.
May is Na onal Stroke
Awareness Month
A stroke occurs every 40
seconds and yet up to 80% of
strokes can be prevented.
This is why Saint Barbara Parish
is hos ng Life Line Screening, the
na on's leading provider of
preven ve health screenings, on
Friday, May 6th.
Screenings are fast, painless
and affordable. Three key tests
check for blocked caro d
arteries, an irregular heart
rhythm called atrial fibrilla on,
and high blood pressure, which
are the three leading risk factors
for stroke. Nearly 800,000
strokes will occur this year, taking
a life approximately every four
minutes.
Other tests check for
abdominal aor c aneurysms and
hardening of the arteries in the
legs. A bone density screening to
assess osteoporosis risk is also
offered and is appropriate for
both men and women. Many
events also offer blood tests,
including cholesterol, glucose and
c-reac ve protein screenings, as
well as take-home colon cancer
early detec on tests.
Screening packages start at
$139. Single tests cost around
$70. For more informa on
regarding the screenings or to
schedule an appointment, call 1888-653-6441. Pre-registra on is
required.

Desde el escritorio del Párroco…
I want to say thanks to all of you for your prayers
for my mother, Margaret. Her cancer diagnosis
came as quite a shock and the days ahead will
surely be difficult for her and for my family. Gratefully,
she has been blessed with good support from her
family and friends, and from neighbors and strangers
alike.
As you know, God is forever good and gracious. My
visit with my parents last week not only brought tears,
but also some great moments of laughter and the
reassurance of the gi that is our faith. With deep
faith in God, I know that my mother and all of us can
find our way through the challenges that life brings.
Please know that my family will be praying for Saint
Barbara Parish in gra tude for your kindness and
support to us at this me.

While wai ng for the “official word” from the
Archdiocese of Chicago, the “word on the street” has
already been heard by many of you. So, to put your
minds and hearts at ease, I am pleased to let you know
that Fr. Edgar Rodriguez will begin shepherding this
parish in July upon my departure.
While my re-assignment to another parish came as a
surprise both to me and to you, I trust that Fr. Edgar’s
assignment will be a blessing for this community. He is
a fine priest with a good heart for ministry. And, as I
prepare to leave St. Barbara at the end of June, I find
some peace in knowing that this parish will be well
cared for in the years to come.
●●●
Congratula ons to all of the children of our parish who
celebrated their First Communion this weekend. Let
us pray that they may always find joy and nourishment
in the Eucharist they celebrate each Sunday.
And may we take advantage of this moment to
remind ourselves of the sacredness of the sacrament.
So o en we can take for granted the weekly
opportunity we have to become one with God and one
with neighbor. We loose sight of the real meaning of
the Eucharist and how it should shape our lives and
inspire us to live more like Jesus each day. May the
children of the parish be our example and encourage
us to renew and respect the awesome grace and
blessing of the Communion we share.
mentes y corazones a gusto, me complace informarle
