My Dear Parishioners,
Here are some scattered thoughts for this week . . .
1. The lesson of the two women—both widows, both poor and their generosity and trust in
God—is that we must live by obedience of faith, of faith that expresses itself in works of charity and
self-giving. I am deeply humbled by them with a desire to be more like them.
2. Both women in the readings today give all that they have—offering their last bit of food to feed
others and their last money to support the works of God’s priests in the temple. In their self-sacrifice
and trust in God they challenge us to imitate Jesus’ sacrifice of love in our own lives. We will be
judged not by how much we give but by how much love we put into our giving.
3. With this weekend’s readings, we could each ask for the grace to be able to give more from
the depths within ourselves. We ask—Who needs this kind of generosity from me? Who in the
world needs my charity? Are we giving all that we can to the Lord—not out of a sense of forced duty
but in the spirit of generosity and love? Are we a joyful or a grudging giver? How can we be this
generous and free and let go, more like these two widows?
4. Don’t be afraid as the man of God, the prophet Elijah, tells us today. The Lord will provide for
us as he sustained the widows. Let us follow the example of these two widows knowing what God
asks, confident that our jar will not be empty and our jugs will not run dry.
5. Are there moments of mercy in your lives? In announcing the Jubilee Year of Mercy which
will begin on December 8th, 2015 and end on November 20th, 2016, Pope Francis invites the entire
Church to be “dedicated to living out in our daily lives the mercy which the Father constantly extends
to all of us.” This is a historic occasion, as it is only the fourth extraordinary Jubilee Year in the
history of the Church. Prophetically, St. John Paul II said in 2002 when he entrusted the world to
God’s Mercy, “There is nothing the world needs more today than Divine Mercy.”
6. Hopefully, in this Jubilee Year of Mercy, each one of us will rediscover the healing power of
God’s absolute love and mercy. As Pope Francis tells us, “God never tires of throwing open the doors
of his heart, and repeats that he loves us and wants to share his love with us.” To paraphrase Pope
Francis, God is Love and Mercy. The Church must live and testify to mercy. Wherever the Church is
present, the mercy of the Father must be present. . .through words and actions of his servants here on
earth...We are all called to show mercy to others.
How can we as individuals and as a parish live and show mercy?

The St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) conference request
food donations from our parish family. The conference will
hold a Thanksgiving parish wide food drive to assist the
families in our community. Donation boxes will be available
at the church the weekend of November 14-15, 2015.
We are seeking new, unexpired food items for
Thanksgiving: canned pumpkin, fresh potatoes, stuffing,
instant potatoes, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, assorted
canned vegetables, jello, pudding, cake mix and frosting,
cornbread muffin mix, rice, chicken broth, flour, sugar, salt,
fresh yellow onions, crackers.

If you were at the 10:30 a.m. All Saints Mass this
past weekend you had an opportunity to see several of the
children from our parish dressed up as their favorite saint.
“Thank You” to the parents of these children for making
costumes so your child could participate in this special
feast day. Also, a big “Thank You” to Sr. Mary Ahn for
making numerous costumes. The children certainly had
fun dressing up. The past two weeks the children learned
that All Saints Day celebrates ordinary holiness, everyday
loving actions and relationships; (all parents do for
children and children do for their parents; all students do
to use their gifts and make room for others in their groups;
all people do to feed the hungry and work for justice.) The
Church canonizes only a few saints, but families and
communities remember the saints who loved and cared
for them. As a church, we profess our belief in the
communion of saints, living and dead, every time we pray
the Creed and in a special way on this feast day. The
children learned that saintliness includes all Christians—
those who spent their lives modeling Jesus’ beatitudes, as
well as people alive today who strive to follow Jesus’.
Some of the saints we saw at this Mass included:
Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. James the Great,
St. Gabriel, St. Michael the Archangel, St. James,
St. Therese of Jesus, St. Cecilia, St. Vincent de Paul,
St. Lorenzo Ruiz, St. George, St. Patrick, St. Teresa of
Calcutta, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Thomas, St. Matthew,
St. Dominic, St. Anthony, St. Benedict, Pope John Paul
II, St. Jude, Vietnamese Martyrs, and a few angels and
saints among saints!

Support this Ministry in our Parish!
We had a fantastic Halloween Carnival last week
with many parishioners in attendance! Thank you so
much to all who attended and supported our school fundraiser. I was very proud of our combined school and faith
formation students who modeled all the different saints for
us at the All Saints mass. They were a beautiful reminder
that we are all “Saints in Training!” The school was also
able to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos in our front Lobby.
We have a beautiful altar set up by parishioner and school
parent Rosario Guerrero and lots of pictures of loved ones
brought in by our students. I hope all parish community
members have been able to enjoy it over the weekends
when they use the building. Some classrooms have even
created their own altar to remember loved ones this
month.
This coming week our school will be hosting a
Rigatoni’s fundraiser on Tuesday night – November 10th
from Noon to 10:00 pm. If you bring the St. Felicitas
flyer to Rigatoni’s, then they will donate 20% back to the
school! They honor take out purchases as well as gift card
purchases. So treat yourself to a night out and donate to
your favorite cause – St. Felicitas Catholic School!
Save the date for November 18th if you are interested
in enrolling your current preschooler into Kindergarten for
the 2016-2017 school year.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Entre las comunidades hispanas aún existe el concepto de
que a la Iglesia se le da limosna. Esta es una horrible
costumbre, puesto que ni a Dios ni a la Iglesia se le debe la
limosna, sino el diezmo y no necesariamente económico, esto
es, también debemos considerar tiempo y talento. Este diezmo
se le da a Dios por medio del mantenimiento de la Iglesia, la
ayuda directa a los necesitados, la generosidad con agencias de caridad, etcétera. No importa a quién o
cómo damos el diezmo que debemos a Dios, lo que importa es reconocer que no es limosna, es decir,
dar de lo que nos sobra. Es dar desde el corazón, compartir, como la viuda del Evangelio, lo que
tenemos para vivir.
No obstante, muchos somos tacaños con el Señor. En lugar de dar con generosidad, damos poco o
damos para hacernos notar. Damos de lo que nos sobra, si acaso damos. Tenemos mucho que
aprender de la viuda que se nos presenta en Marcos 12:41-44. Ella, siendo pobre y necesitada, aún así
quiso compartir con Dios de lo que tenía para vivir. Casi siempre los pobres son más generosos que
los ricos o la clase media. Son ellos quienes nos muestran la generosidad de Dios y nos desafían a
hacer lo mismo, a fin de erradicar la pobreza.
