Veterans Day Story: BGNFP VP Honors Veterans of Richmond Kentucky
On Veterans Day, 2014, Charles
Walker, Vice President and Gary
Noland, both with the BGNFP Tuskegee Airmen Chapter in Lexington
KY, had the honor to stand with the
Black Veterans of Madison County at
the First Baptist Church Francis St.
Richmond KY.
We paid tribute to the Civil War Veterans that are buried in the cemetery on Four Mile Road in Richmond
KY. There were Black Veterans on
both sides of the war and “Both
Sides Offered Freedom” at the end
of the War. The Union paid its soldiers for their service and the confederates paid the slave masters for
the service of their slaves. We had
the MIA and POW ceremony, for the
veterans of all wars.
After the program, Col. Chris Wynder from Louisville, KY/ Ft. Knox,
joined BGNFP, Col Wynder
responded to an Email that I sent out
on November 9 stating that we
would come to the Veteran’s Honors
in Richmond Ky. BGNFP ChapterPresident Ron Spriggs was in attendance to this second annual event.

BGNFP Tuskegee Airmen Chapter President’s Note
This has been a fantastic and very
active year for our chapter. It all
began around February of 2014
when we decided to venture out into
new territory. After seven years as a
chapter, we began plans for our first
educational fundraising gala. This
step of faith was taken so that we as
a chapter could do more to provide
seed money for some high school
seniors heading off to college.
Mayor Jim Gray.
Our chapter received a proclamation from the city designating September 19th as Tuskegee Airmen
Day in Lexington. Our night’s event
honored two DOTA’s Alexander Jefferson of Detroit, MI and Frank
Weaver of Louisville KY.
I am extremely proud of the BGNFP
Executive Board and other volunteers who poured tireless hours during the 7 months, before and after
the event to make it a resounding
.
success.
BGNFP President
Ron Spriggs
Our program book contained a
gratulatory letter from President
Barack Obama, Kentucky Governor,
Steve Beshear and Lexington’s
While the September fundraising
Gala was our crowning event for the
year, I am just as proud of these
same individuals who participated in
the Lexington Independence Day
Parade and the Annual Roots and
Heritage Festival. In each of these
community appearances, it speaks
volumes of the commitment we have
as a chapter to keeping the legacy of
the Tuskegee Airmen alive.
