Walk to End Genocide on May 1
Take a stand, raise your voice, and
join us as we Walk to End Genocide
with the Darfur Interfaith Network

honor the victims of genocide. The
Walk begins at 1:30 pm at 100 Raoul
Wallenberg Place SW and continues
around the nation’s monuments. Activities for children and families will
nourish empathy and build compassion for the most vulnerable in our

This festival holiday also gives us two opportunities to worship
together as a community. Our Passover festival service, celebrating
the Exodus from Egypt, will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 10:30
am. We conclude the holiday on Friday, April 29 with a 10:30 am
festival and yizkor service that enables us to come together in prayer
and remember those who live on in our hearts.
Freedom Seder
Every year, we invite our interfaith neighbors to join us at Temple for
a special Passover seder. As indicated by its name, the Freedom Seder
celebrates freedom and reconfirms unity with our interfaith community through prayers, songs, and readings that reflect on the universal
struggle for human dignity. All members, guests, family, and friends
are welcome to join us on Wednesday, April 27 at 6:00 pm. RSVP

As you enrich your own life on the 23rd, we invite you
to help improve the life of another as we partner with
BRAWS (Bringing Resources to Aid Women’s Shelters), a
nonprofit organization that provides new bras, underwear,
and sanitary supplies to women in shelters. You can bring
new bras (in all sizes with tags attached) to the luncheon or
add a contribution to your registration.
The Spring Luncheon costs $65 per person,
and registrations received by May 10 will include a

Confirmation is the ceremony through which we recognize and celebrate the importance of continued Jewish education.
It is traditionally linked to the festival of Shavuot when the first fruits were brought to be offered at the Temple. During their

In Journey into Europe, Ambassador Ahmed, a worldrenowned Muslim anthropologist, provides an in-depth
look at Muslim life across Europe and the attitudes and perceptions of Europeans regarding their Muslim neighbors.
Filmed as they traveled across the continent in winter and
summer 2014, Ambassador Ahmed and his team shined a
light on the Muslim experience in Europe.
Ambassador Ahmed is the former Pakistani High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland. Currently,
he is the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American
University and Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings
Institution.
National Character Shapes Our World, analyzes the efforts of
Israelis to forge an identity. “They are grand and grandiose,
visionary and delusional, generous and self-centered,” Dr.
Gratch suggests. “Deeply caring because of the history of
Jewish victimization, Israelis also demonstrate,” he says,
“a shocking indifference to the sufferings of others.” Dr.
Gratch has served on the faculty of Columbia University’s
Department of Clinical Psychology and has worked as a
consultant for Pepsi, Colgate-Palmolive, Nabisco, and the
NFL. He comes to WHC through the cooperation of the
Jewish Book Council.
