A 3-CREDIT MINI-SEMESTER COURSE, JANUARY 9–18, 2009
The ancient past of Mexico is present in the
village of Tepoztlán, an hour from Mexico City
and a half hour from Cuernavaca. Tepoztlán
attracts artists and travelers from around
the world and is famous as the birthplace of
the Plumed Serpent god of the Aztecs; for its
mountains, believed to be enchanted; and for its
peoples’ ongoing struggles for democracy and
indigenous self-determination.
❧ Homestays with local families
❧ Spanish language immersion classes
taught by professional teachers for learners
at all levels (five students maximum
per class)
❧ Presentations
by local professionals about peoples, the
environment, cultural traditions, arts,
politics, history
❧ Excursions led by local experts
to nearby Mexico City museums,
pre-Hispanic pyramids, environmental
walks, visits to local healers and indigenous
potters
❧ Study groups
throughout the trip with Lesley faculty
course leaders, in preparation for students’
course projects, due one month after trip
(if taking the course for credit)
Fees: Include academic instruction, room and
board with home-stay family, Spanish lessons,
field trips and museum admissions, and pick up
and drop-off at Mexico City Airport.
Note: the fee does not include airfare to and
from Mexico City.
Non-Credit: $1700.00 (an additional $450.00
for three credits for non-Lesley students seeking
academic credit)
Lesley Students: $900.00 plus regular
tuition rate
All participants pay a $30.00 registration fee
