Just a Note from the Potentate
You might think it would slow down in the fall, but it sure
has not done that yet. The month started with a bang. It started
with the Garland Labor Day Parade followed by the Director’s
Staff Fish Fry. Thanks to all who participated in both and the
fish was great.
I had a couple of friends come out and join me to play for
the Fantastics. They were Jerry Matheny and Jolie Holliday.
Heck, Jolie even brought my good friend Sonny Burgess who
was happy to sing one for the girls.
That same weekend we had the Madd Dog Moore Tournament and a huge thanks goes out to the volunteers who helped with that one. Biggest crowd of fishermen ever. 179 teams took part. This is a great partnership
with the Garland Police Department. Thanks to them for raising another big amount for the Hospitals. Also had
Mike Doocy from Channel 4 out there doing his magic. And if that wasn’t enough, the Garland Circus was going
on at the same time. Whoa!!! What a weekend. And by the way, Wayne and Carol Osborne did a great job putting
the team together for this event. From the looks of it, we did well.
Every weekend seems to hold great surprises and the next one was no exception. After the Stated Meeting, your Divan and Clowns took Miss Texas south to visit the two Texas Hospitals. That was arranged by Noble
Lance Goff. We were able to get space at Moody Gardens for the group and Miss Texas and the staff at both
facilities treated us just like you would expect. They always make us proud. A great time was had by all.
Then, the start of the State Fair of Texas. The parade in downtown Dallas was another success for your
Temple. Thanks to Director, Ken Dillingham, and his staff for the effort that went in to the beginning and success
of this year’s State Fair of Texas Parade. Also a big thanks to our Parade Marshall, Everett Warner, for all he has
done to make Hella’s parades a success again this year.
Finally, what can I say about our Daughters of the Nile? Her Majesty, Carol Hefley, has been a wonderful
partner with us this year. Janie and I appreciate her and her ladies of the household so very much. Thanks to you
all for making us proud. Have a great time at Texas Days.
Well, that’s about it for now. I know I say it a lot, but Janie and I are so blessed to have had the opportunity
to serve you all this year. Let’s finish it with the same kind of fun attitude that we started the year with. Thanks
again for all each of you do to contribute to your Temple’s success.
Yours in the Faith,
Bobby and Janie

Patient Honored by U.S. Department of State
On July 22 at the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C., Shriners Hospitals for Children Galveston patient Yumna Alnasor from Daraa, Syria was recognized by Deputy Director of State Antony Blinken. Yumna attended the Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast” which is a religious holiday celebrated
by Muslims that marks the end of Ramadan.
Below are comments from the U.S. Department of State Deputy Director of State Antony Blinken at the
event:
“Of course, stories are not only being told every day; they are being lived every day. Among our guests tonight
is a very special person. Yumna Alnasor is from Daraa in Syria. She’s 10 years old. About two years ago, a government missile slammed into her house, setting it afire and killing her brother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and
her great grandmother. But Yumna survived. She suffered grievous injuries, but she survived. She was initially
treated in the region but then was brought to Texas two months ago, where she had surgeries to save her life and
improve her health.
No single word can capture Yumna’s strength, her bravery, her resilience, and something that I saw a
short while ago when we met: her inner light. But, on an evening like this, I think the word “blessed” comes
to mind. We are honored that you could be with us tonight, and we’re thrilled that you’re going to be ready to
rejoin your loved ones in Daraa early next year. So let me just say thank you. Thank you for being here.
I also want to thank the Shriners Hospital in Galveston for opening its doors to Yumna and to other children
injured in Syria, and to the Syrian Institute for Progress, an American NGO led by Saed Moujtahed and Souzan
Baaj, whose dedication makes these badly needed programs possible. Thank you all very, very much.”

as video message from the United States Secretary of State John Kerry.

Hella Membership
September 2015
Well, the year is 2/3’s over. So where are we on membership?
The Numbers as of 9/1
• Creations - 47. Goal for year is 75.
• Restorations - 29. Goal for year is 49
• Affiliations - 8. Goal for year is 11
• Suspensions - Goal for year is less than 114. As of 9/1, we still have approximately 300 Nobles who have still
not paid their dues for 2015. If you have paid, great, if not, please do, and if you know a Brother that has still not
paid his dues for this year, encourage him to do so.
Creations
• We had a great extended short form in August, bringing in nine new Nobles. We have two more short forms
scheduled for the remainder of 2015, September 24th and December 16th.
• A full ceremonial is scheduled for 11/21. We need to start now generating petitions for this ceremonial. It is going to be a big deal. All short form Nobles and their Lady’s will be encouraged to attend also. Dinner and dancing
will follow the ceremonial.
Restorations
• Restorations are also on a track to make goal for the year. This effort is critical to us meeting our overall goals.
Everyone knows at least one brother who has demited or been suspended. Do your part.
Lodge Visitation and Ambassador Program
• The previously announced lodge visitation program to promote Shrine membership has started. Steve Lang,
John Krodel, Wayne Osborne, Jerry Barrera and Bob Moore are scheduled to make visits. Our goal is to visit at
least 20 Lodges in September and October, more if possible. We will be presenting a consistent message. If you
would like to be part of this effort, or would like to make the presentation at your lodge, please contact me soon.
First and Second Line Signer Incentive
• Don’t forget about the great incentives and rewards we have for Nobles who are bring in new Nobles.
- Two 1st line and next year’s dues paid. If done in 1st year, Noble receives silver medallion in addition to dues
paid for next year
- 1st line signers entered twice and 2nd line entered once for each new Noble for Southwest Airlines $500 gift
card drawing (two, $500 gift cards), if we meet Bobby’s goal of 87 creations.
Our priorities for the remainder of the year;
• Achieving our goals is more than possible with your help. Be a part of something special.
• Our short form process is very important. My target is seven candidates each in September and December.
• We need at least 16 candidates at the November Ceremonial. Start working now in your Blue Lodges and get
those petitions in. As of this writing we do not have any.
• Lodge visitations
• The Social, formally called the Smoker, is scheduled for November 13th. Start talking it up in your Blue Lodges. It is going to be a fun evening, and will be a great way for prospective new Nobles to see and learn a little about
what the Shrine represents and what we do as Shriners.
Working together, we can achieve our membership goals for this year.
Fraternally, Bob Moore

HELLA SHRINE FLYING FEZZES
Hospital Committee
TO ALL NOBLES INTERESTED IN FLYING OR AVIATION
Parade season is now in full swing and so are the Flying
Fezzes. Originally formed in 1976 to assist in transporting
burned and crippled children to the Shrine Hospitals, the
Flying Fezzes now assist in raising money for the transportation fund and help bring awareness for the hospitals
through active participation in parades. Look for us with our
flight worthy plane float in the upcoming holiday parades.
Please look on our unit page at Hellashriners.org for more
information and updates about our activities. All Nobles are
invited to join us at all parades and ride on the float or in the
pull vehicle. Comprised of pilots and those interested in flying or aviation, an open invitation is extended to all who join
us to complete our mission.
Our September meeting was a big success at the
Taxiway Café located within Lancaster Airport as we were
joined by Noble Charles Lee and his lady Judy and Noble
John Krodel. We conducted our business and then adjourned
until we met again to participate in the State Fair Parade and
the other local parades.
Our October meeting will again be held at the Taxiway Café at the Lancaster Airport. Come join us on Saturday, October 17, for breakfast at or around 9:30 a.m. to be
followed by our meeting beginning at 10 a.m. Address is
730 Ferris Rd, Lancaster, Tx, 75146. Their phone is (972)
227-2233. On the agenda will be plane float and winged fez
renovations, upcoming parade participation and a possible
future squadron flight to one of the Shriner Hospitals.
Annual dues are $25. Look us up at Hellashriners.
org for locations and any date changes. All Nobles and their
lovely ladies are invited to come “fly with us.” Contact
Commander Steve Eason at FlyingFezzes@hellashriners.
org or ph. 214.638.0345.
We want to thank everyone that showed up to help
with the Mad Dog Moore Fishing Tournament fund raiser.
We had a great turn out with lots of help. With everyone
helping it does not take long to put everything up and not
very long to tear it down. Thanks to John Rodriguez for getting both hospital vans out to the tournament for everyone
to see. The new van, with that great wrap, was a big hit! We
had 170+ teams competing this year.
Next year is just around the corner. We have a couple of events planned that everyone needs to put on their
calendars. We start off with IHOP day on March 8, 2016.
IHOP is letting us be in their stores to raise money for our
Hospitals. They will actually start selling the “wall tags” in
the middle of January. This should help raise more needed
money for our 22 Hospitals.
Then on April 16, 2016, we will have our 2nd annual Rough Riders game. The same deal as this year. $25
gets you in, all the hot dogs, brats, chips, peanuts and Dr.
Pepper products you want, plus you get a program and a
souvenir and we are going to have an even bigger and better
tailgate party. Lots of information after the 1st of the year.
Our Bucket Drive will be on May 14th and 15th
next year. We hope to have some more places that people
can sit in front of a store to get our donations. Bob Mantle
will be working with a district manager of a chain of stores
to see what we can work out. As always we want to beat
this years total. Each of you make the difference. The more
buckets we have collecting the more we get for our kids.
We, as Shriners, and our Ladies are about helping
our kids. We raise money so they can smile, walk, be productive and have a better life. We change the world one kid
at a time! Thanks to each of you for caring enough to spend
your valuable time helping collect for this worthy cause.
Fraternally,
Mike Hall, Hospital Chairman
Top O’ Dallas
President Wayne Walker extends an arms wide open invitation to all Nobles and their wonderful Ladies to join us
as at the Café de France, 7370 Preston Road, #505, Dallas, ph. 972-733-3400 [Preston Rd. north of Campbell Rd.] for our
October meeting. The Fall sees our return back to our usual place and last month we had Patsy Cline (aka Linda Freeman).
This month’s meeting is scheduled for October 22. The venerable S.K. Choudhury social time begins again at 6:15 pm and
dinner starts at 7:00 pm. Our LIVE ENTERTAINMENT is scheduled by the Illustrious Past Potentate Roger Fuller, the
club’s Number 1 VP and his Lady Jane. For October, we will be joined by guitar player David Knauber who has entertained
us before. At this meeting we will be discussing the upcoming events for the rest of the year.
The three course dinner [4 selections of entrees with side items] is $18 per person which includes gratuity. Finished
off with live entertainment which will “Top” off our evening, the cost is definitely worth the ticket. Stay for the Pot O’ Gold
raffle drawing at the end. Cash bar is available. Come join us for a Lot O’ Fun and get up to speed with the activities and
business at Hella. A Shrine Club’s purpose is served when all members come together for fellowship and carry that forward
into the community to reflect what it means to be a Shriner. This includes fund raising for the Shriner Hospitals as well as
showing everyone that we are darn good people to be around. For more information about the Top O’ Dallas, contact President Wayne Walker at 972.618.1141.

Hella Shrine Circus Newsfront
Your 2016 circus Committee is hard at work, and everything is on track for another great Hella Circus.
• All should have received the circus kick-off letter
with your five exchange tickets. Replies are being processed as received. Without this database and attention
to detail, we would be lost with respect to our Noble
tickets. Thanks to Wayne Osborne for setting this up
again this year.
• Remember that you need to advise us of the circus
date and time that you want. A follow-up reminder will
be sent to all Nobles in November. We still have plenty
of time to work through the details. The final cut-off
date is not until January 4th.
• A reminder of the excellent benefit to you or your
unit for selling business ads, 40%. This can add up
fast. We count on our business ads to cover the printing
cost of the circus program, and many units count on the
40% as a valuable unit fund raiser. Circus program ads
are also another way for units, clubs and individuals to
show your support for our circus and to give back to
your Temple, especially considering that you can elect
to be credited back 40%.
• A critical need is people to work the tables selling
ride tickets. Chuck and Nelda Currie will again have
overall responsibility for ride ticket sales. Chuck and
Nelda have been a strong and stable contributor in this
area for years. One of the difficult parts of selling ride
tickets is organizing the individuals who will work the
tables. We are asking Shrine Units and Clubs to volunteer for specific performances. Let us know in advance
if your unit or club can take on one or more performances. There is some training involved, so the sooner
we know who will be selling, the better.
Circus Performance Schedule all at the Frisco Dr. Pepper Arena:
• Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening, January
27, 28 and 29
• Saturday and Sunday, January 30 and 31, three performances each day.
• Exact times will be communicated at a later date,
but figure approximately the same times as the 2015
circus.

Bob Moore - Circus Chairman

Hella Provost Guard
The Provost Guard has been very active, we had a full
house at all of our monthly meetings which culminated
in a very busy summer. Provost Guard members S.K.
Choudhury, Alan Poff, Scott Brosi, Ted & Carol Frieze
and Eliu Paredes participated in the bucket brigade in
Rockwall, Texas, thanks for all for your help. The
guard also participated in bulls-eye pistol matches at
the Dallas Pistol Club for several local Masonic Lodges
providing range safety officers, and setting up targets
for the shooters. Nobles Frank Johnson, S.K. Choudhury, John Creel, Ralph Choate, Scott Brosi, Patrick
Throop, Alan Poff, Sam Laffel, and Richard Hudman
participated in these events. (Top Photo: l to r: J.Creel,

Nobles S.K. Choudhury and David Higginbotham participated in the Ennis Parade and a good time was had
by all. (Second Photo: l to r: D. Higginbotham, SK)
In June the Provost Guard sent a team to Corpus Christi
to compete in the TSPGA bulls-eye match. The team
consisted of Sir Roger Carney, Bob Moore, Ron Carney, S.K. Choudhury, Mike Edwards, Nick Fehrenbach, Dossie Mitchell, Alan Poff and Sam Laffel. Provost Guard’s annual picnic took place on June 14th,
thanks Nick.
Please let us know if you are interested in
joining the Provost Guard. You can contact the Hella
Shrine office and they will get you in touch with the
right folks. Provost Guard meets every month on the
3rd Sunday at the El Fenix at 9090 Skillman Road. We
eat at 4:30 pm and meeting starts at 5 pm. We practice
most Saturdays, weather permitting, at the Dallas Pistol

Nile News From Queen Carol Hefley
Fall is here, and it still be 90 outside, but the calendar says it’s fall!
Daughters of the Nile have a busy few months coming up. Starting with
the Shalman Temple Clownettes proudly representing Daughters of the Nile
and Shalman Temple No. 90. We had 12 ladies either riding on the awesome
Clownette Wagon or riding their scooters and all having a great time.
October 1 we head over to Ft. Worth for Texas Days for fun and fellowship to be shared with
all 13 Texas Daughters of the Nile Temples. All 12 of my fellow Texas Queens plan to be there.
Please bring a few dollars to spend at the Shalman Booth, where Princess Tirzah, Dawn Sanders,
and Princess Marshal, Jen Lites, and their team will be selling new and/or slightly used clothing to raise money for the Daughters of the Nile Foundation. All money raised goes to the DON
Foundation to help our Shriner Hospitals for Children. There may be a few jello shots sold as well!
Wednesday, October 7, is Stated Session at 07:30 pm, come on out and enjoy fellowship and let’s
trade some Texas Days stories!
Then on Saturday, October 17th, Supreme Queen Sharon St. John will visit Shalman No. 90. I
cannot wait for you all to meet her. The Ceremony of Initiation begins at 2:00 pm, for Daughters
of the Nile only. Then we will have unit performances and the banquet starts at 6:00 pm. Tickets
for the banquet are available by contacting Supreme Appointee, Joey Minahan, tickets are $30
each. Come on out and meet our Supreme Queen and join in the fun and fellowship. Rumor has it
that Darrell Hefley and Bobby Caldwell will be singing for her Majesty at the banquet.
Ladies, please take time to remember the mission we all share, Shriners Hospitals for Children,
and the wonderful work done there. Be generous, often! Also, remember to be kind to each other.
Perfection is of God, so be kind and forgiving as we all try our best!
Nile Love to all of you!
Queen Carol Hefley
