PREFACE
Mag-Filipino Tayo is a user-friendly textbook designed to provide learners in Filipino a simple, communicative and easy way to
comprehend lessons presented to develop the necessary language skills. This book will help explore and gain knowledge about
Philippine history, culture, traditions and practices. The book contains five major components which are explicitly presented and
discussed.
Context. Every lesson is presented with various dialogs accompanied with photos and other features that will enhance students’
learning. Guided vocabulary and comprehension check activities are incorporated after each lesson so as to assess students’
ability to understand the text. The vocabulary list found in each lesson is used in undertaking the communicative and writing
exercises.
Communication. These are extended activities based on the introductory lessons. Different scenarios and formulated conversations related to real life situations are provided allowing students to participate in pairs, small groups or as a whole class activity
in order to develop their communicative skills. The use of illustrations and dialogs motivate students more and they become very
enthusiastic in learning and understanding the concepts presented.
Structure. There are two organized grammar concepts in each lesson. Each grammar lesson is presented with simple rules and
concise explanation so as to develop students’ communicative and writing skills. This will help and guide students work on and
understand well the various written practice exercises.
Pronunciation. This section features simple models and rules on the proper pronunciation of the letters and words in Filipino.
Norms about accentuation and stress are briefly explained to help students pronounce the word with ease and confidence. Word
and sentence level structures are provided for pronunciation practices and mastery. The use of proverbs accompanied by colored
photos are featured to make oral practices and activities more interesting and meaningful for students.
Culture. Each lesson has a cultural section introduced with literary readings which will give the students background, information and knowledge about the history, culture, traditions, practices, people, food and places of the target language being studied.
Colored pictures are incorporated to add more information in understanding the concepts presented.
It is the author’s intent to provide the American Council on the Teaching Foreign Languages standard-based material that
will help language students learn Filipino in a very simple, interesting, communicative and comprehensive approach. For the
instructors in Filipino, it is hoped that the lessons, concepts, and activities presented in this textbook will be beneficial in their
teaching the Filipino language.
