attributed to the trail being closed for
over the last three years and we wanted
to see “Mother Natures” handiwork.
On June 9th 2012 it was closed due to a
fire caused by a lightning strike close to
the trail. It took 19 days before the
High Park fire wa s brought under
control. Then in September 2013 the
great flood occurred and kept the road
closed until just recently.!
Just before we got to Rist Canyon, Troy
H. reported that he had a bad noise
coming from his Jeep and just to be on
the safe side decided to turn around.
Gary and Marti pulled out of line to

escort him home
as needed. The
noise turned out
to be a loose
pinion bearing
that they were able to tighten and limp
the Jeep home. When we came to the
Stove Prairie School, we found several

more vehicles waiting for us. We now
had 28 lined up for what must be a club
record for vehicles on a trip. After
crossing the private property we
stopped to air down. While running up
the trail, we noticed that when we were
in a gully where water could collect, the
trees weren’t burned. One hundred feet
up the hill and the trees were burned.

discovered that the trail went beyond
where he had to stop and now was
overgrown with trees and brush. While
the Old Flowers Road is not particularly
difficult, it is very pretty in a lot of
areas. We eventually came out on the
Pingree Hill road
and headed up to
Pinnock Pass and
then down to the
Buckhorn Road.!

When we came to the Moody Hill Road
several of the group hadn’t had enough
fun yet and headed up Moody to play at
the quartz quarry. The Mountaineer
family and guests had another fun day
of 4 wheeling.!
