Career Leadership Program Expands in 2014
Last year Past Chamber
Chairman Dee Vaidya had a
vision to improve workforce
development in the community
by creating a program aimed
to improve the soft skills of
high school students. The
Chamber approached the
Wayne County Schools Career
Center to see if they would be interesting in collaborating in developing a program that
would partner businesses with the Career Center to better prepare students for the
workforce. The pilot program was introduced with seven students and all were either
hired by participating companies or enrolled in college.
This year the Career School is expanding the program to include the Orrville
Chamber and additional curriculum is being provided by Spherion Staffing. The
importance of work ethic will be addressed by the Center of Work Ethic Development
who will administer a program called, "Bring Your A Game to Work". Students will
spend time focusing on principles that will be reinforced during offsite visits with
business executives. Chamber members participating include RBB Systems, Cleveland
Clinic, LuK USA, Whitaker-Myers Insurance Group, The Wooster Brush Company, JLG
Industries, Birdeye Design and Jarrett Logistics Systems. Our thanks to Lynn Moomaw
and Jean Boen from the Wayne County Schools Career Center for further developing
this important program.
It's a Progressive Night for Business After
