It’s always refreshing to have some time to take in different sights and move at a different pace (although I think the pace on our vacation sped up rather than slowed down!) and coming back home gives us the opportunity to renew our gratitude at having a home to come home to. The pace hasn’t slowed down since my return to the parish either. Our golf tournament was a spectacular success, we had the maximum number of teams, we had wonderful sponsors and the day itself, while hot, (and it was hot!) was a beautiful day. A big, big, big, Thank You!!! goes out to our golf committee members who worked very hard to put it together, and to our sponsors and players! Thanks too to the D. of I. for the food! Your hard work and generosity is so very much appreciated. Our parish relies on all our fundraisers and this one is no exception. God bless you for serving Our Lord and the people of St. Clare Parish! Now that the golf tournament is over we can slow down right??? Wrong! Our Picnic is fast approaching! I know many folks are busy preparing for the success of our Parish Picnic, so please be sure to put that on your calendars and plan on bringing your family and friends to enjoy what is shaping up to be a great day for the whole family. Last week, mom and I went to Luebbering picnic (great fried chicken, but ours is better…) and if you remember, I said that I heard a rumor (wink, wink) that St. Clare parishioners got half off their dinners, well I found out that wasn’t the case, so in order to make up for that we may have to charge St. Francis parishioners double at our picnic…(just kidding!) A little update on our church roof… We will be getting a new roof on the Church in August. The bid was awarded to Rose Exteriors of St. Clair so they will be doing that within the next few weeks… protection from above is very important spiritually and physically! Finally, in your kindness, please say a prayer for our organist Paul. Paul is undergoing some medical procedures, I asked him if I could share that with you and he said yes, and he is grateful for your prayers. Paul had surgery this past Thursday and is expected to need a few weeks for recuperation so we will be without organ music for 2 or 3 weeks. Paul has done such a great job leading us in song on Sundays, and I don’t know if you’ve noticed, I certainly have, we have become a church that sings! St. Augustine said, “He who sings well prays twice.” So thanks goes to Paul for helping us to pray. God is so good to us! Have a blessed week! Fr. Kunz ADORATION Eucharist Adoration is a practice in the Roman Catholic tradition in which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and adored by the faithful. We are looking for more volunteers so that we have at least two during each hour. If you cannot give an hour, any amount of time would help or if you would like to be a substitute, please let us know as well. Call the parish office at 629-0315. Our Adoration hours are: Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Benediction follows. LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK We all struggle with the illusion that happiness is found in our possessions. God constantly reminds us that we will never find happiness through the possession of earthly things but only in the things of heaven, the things that matter to God. What matters to God? Care for the poor, the widow, and the marginalized; pursuing love at all costs; and raising our thoughts to what is above are the things that matter to God. 2 Welcome to St. Clare Catholic Church PARISH NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS picnic Saturday, August 20th 11:00 am until 10:00 pm Volunteers Needed: Looking for a co-chairperson for the inside dining for the second shift. Also need about four workers to help during this shift. Volunteers to help for the morning inside dining shift. Trash Chairperson Parking Chairperson Contact Erin Wild at 629-5778. Basket Stand Items Needed: If you have some items that you can donate to put together “themed” baskets for the picnic, please leave them in back of church marked “basket stand”. This stand relies on donations and makes wonderful baskets for the picnic. Themed items include sport items, kid items, game items, spa items, pet items, etc. These talented ladies can put anything together — they are just in need some items. They would like to have about 100 baskets for the stand. New Schedules Good Samaritan Supper Tuesday, August 2nd KC Hall, 5:00 pm We offer this FREE meal to all in our community who are senior citizens, those eating alone or who need a little extra help providing food for their family. We will be serving a delicious protein-filled Taco Salad along with drinks, desserts and a few attendance prizes. We always have several people who walk a distance to get here and with the heat so bad last month 1 lady walked from the senior homes just for a meal and to take several meals back to others who could not walk. (Of course we drove them back home). So pass along the information and if you know someone who would like to come, offer them a ride. The new schedules for Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, and Gift Bearers are in back of church. Please make sure you pick one up if you have volunteered. Care Consultation Day Thursday, August 11th 8:30 AM — 3:00 PM The Alzheimer’s Association is offering free consultations to discuss dementia and Alzheimer’s related issues. We have a roof over our head, and we have clothes, food, and water to bath. By the way our mother made our shirts out of feed sacks. The kind that chicken feed came in and they had a pattern on them. The feed Company did a chartable thing by supplying rural people with a supply of cloth. I don’t remember if the feed cost more than the feed in burlap bags. We were not much different from most rural people and some had less than us. This time was right after WWII and the early 1950s. Some people went on to college and became wealthy. That was good, because they built factories and gave the masses a places to work and become a part of the middle class. It’s not like that today. Jesus said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” (Luke 12:13-21) God Bless, Deacon Harv Other Area Events . . . . Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not store up or hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle. Please remember in your prayers the following military personnel: SPC Drew Alsop — US Army, Erin Arent — U.S. Navy, Jeff Arent — U.S. Marines, Jason Burton — US Navy, Samantha Butler — Coast Guard, Justin Campbell — US Navy, Scott Daugherty, Coty DeClue — USAF, LT COL Daniel Dubbs — US Marines, SGT Cameron Earley — US Army, SGT Tyler Earley — US Army, PFC Cory Matthew Ershen — US Army, Clay Fisher — U.S. Marines, Cory Gargus — US Marines, SPC Tyler Grogan — US Army, Matthew Martin — US Navy, Monty Perkins, Ray Schoonveld — US Marine, And Andrew Snodgrass — US Navy. We are in the process of “closing our books” for this fiscal. When we “close our books”, the Archdiocese does a thorough review of our accounting. Once we get approval to close, we can provide a report to the parish as to our income and expenses. Dynamic Catholic, Alive! Merit and Good Works. Is your real treasure here on earth, or being stored up in heaven? Perhaps it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Did you know that your good works, done under the influence of God’s grace, have real value in God’s eyes? It’s called “merit” — in its way a treasure both on earth and in heaven. Learn more about this core of the Church practice called “indulgences.” It’s not a thing of the past but is a very real blessing for us all. (CCC1471-1473, 2006-2011) 6 Welcome to St. Clare Catholic Church Sharing the Gospel In today's Gospel Peter, James, and John saw Jesus transfigured. He was changed. Rays of light came from his body like the rays of sunshine come from the sun. His clothes were dazzling white. Each time God forgives you, he sends rays of love to cleanse your soul. When you forgive others, you send rays of love to their souls. Forgiveness fills your body and soul with happiness. FUN & GAMES Prayer Father, I am thankful for my dazzling white soul of forgiveness. Mission for the Week I will forgive those who hurt me. ©2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 - 1-800-950-9952 x2469 - LPiResourceCenter.com St. Clair, MO 7
