beautiful season, an opportune
time to work on things which hold us in sin, to grow
stronger in our faith, to pray better, and generally to
grow in holiness as we point toward Easter. Now
some of you may also celebrate Mardi Gras (Fat

one of the Lenten traditions of our church.

HOPE CANS — Lent Almsgiving 2016
This year our almsgiving will benefit our local Catholic
food pantry, Harvest of Hope, which serves Boulder
families and individuals in need of supplemental food.
Cash donations may be placed in HOPE cans which
will be passed out at the beginning of Lent and should
be returned on Palm Sunday. Checks payable to
Harvest of Hope may be placed in the Pantry donation
envelopes and dropped in the Poor Box. Your support

It’s a F-A-C-T: SHJ School has it all!
Faith-Academics-Character-Tradition
F stands for FAITH —
Sacred Heart of Jesus School strives to provide
an atmosphere of acceptance and support for
each student. We foster a loving community of
high moral character and recognize each
student's God-given individual dignity.
Each Monday the entire school gathers in the
gym to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, led by
Middle School students. Prayers are also said at
meal times and at the beginning and end of each
day. The daily religion curriculum opens students
to the Word of God and Catholic sacraments,
faith and values.
Every Tuesday SHJ Parents in Prayer pray the
rosary for all community intentions.
The School Mass is celebrated on
Thursdays. Each week a different class has
leadership responsibilities: writing their own
Prayers of the Faithful, selecting music and
songs. Our students gain experience in public
speaking and group leadership and deepen their
understanding of the Catholic faith and the parts
of the Mass.
Throughout the year students participate in
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a Living
Rosary and Living Stations of the Cross,
meditation in Mary's Garden, School-wide
Advent and Lent activities, a Christmas program,
and a May Crowning.
Applications for Fall, 2016, are being accepted

LA CUARESMA YA ESTA AQUÍ

Este Miércoles se celebra el Miércoles de Ceniza. Esto comienzo el período de 40 día de la preparación
para la Pascua, que conocemos como la Cuaresma. Cuaresma es un tiempo precioso, un momento
oportuno para reflexionar las cosas que nos mantienen en el pecado, para crecer más fuertes en nuestra fe,
a orar mejor, y en general para crecer en santidad, asi nos dirigimos hacia la Pascua. Ahora, algunos de
ustedes tal vez celebren Martes Gordo (Mardi Gras) el dia 9º. Eso esta muy bien también, ya que es una
de las tradiciones de Cuaresma de nuestra Iglesia.
Cuaresma está llena de tradiciones interesantes, muchos de sus raíces profundas en la historia de
nuestra iglesia. La palabra misma, "Lencten" proviene de una antigua palabra sajona que se refiere al mes
de marzo. Esto significa "primavera", o más técnicamente, el momento del año cuando los días
comienzan a alargarse. La temporada de primavera se connota como la época del año cuando la nueva
vida abunda, el nuevo crecimiento está presente. Esperamos reflejar esto en nuestra vida espiritual.
También sabemos de las expectativas de la Cuaresma. El tiempo de Cuaresma tiene un carácter
penitencial. Los días de la Penitencia para ser observados son el Miércoles de Ceniza y todos los
viernes de Cuaresma. Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo son días de ayuno y abstinencia.
Todos los viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia solamente. La ley de la abstinencia (no comer
carne) obliga a los que han completado sus 14 anos. La ley del ayuno (sólo una comida completa cada día
y nada entre comidas) obliga a los que han completado los 21 años hasta el comienzo de los 60 años.
Proporcionalmente graves inconvenientes excusas de las leyes de ayuno y abstinencia. A pesar de que la
iglesia se describen las leyes de una manera específica, muchos optan por entrar en el "espíritu" de la
Cuaresma a pesar de sus edades.
Una última nota, ¿Qué hacemos con las palmas del año pasado? Esta pregunta nos llueve cada
año. La respuesta es sencilla, las puedes incinerar. Esta es la forma correcta de deshacerse de las palmas
del año pasado. Algunas parroquias recogen las palmas para quemarlas y utilizarlas en lugar de ceniza.
Aquí en Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, en realidad no lo hacemos, porque es muy difícil. Las cenizas salen
muy secas (y generalmente inutilizable para el Miércoles de Ceniza). Las cenizas tienen que ser
mezclados con la cantidad justa de aceite para hacerlos viables. Un trabajo sucio, mejor dejar a los
expertos!
CONCURSO ARQUIDIOCESANO DE ORTOGRAFÍA
Sagrado Corazón de Jesús tiene el honor de acoger el concurso de ortografía de la Arquidiócesis, el
sábado 27 de febrero desde las 7:00 am (examen escrito) a 3:30 pm. El ganador del año pasado, Andrew
Haapala es un estudiante de 8º grado en nuestra escuela. Necesitamos voluntarios para ayudar a que este
evento se desarrolle sin problemas. A cualquier persona puede ayudar. Comuníquense a la oficina
Parroquial ó la oficina de la escuela si está interesado en ser voluntario. Además, los feligreses de
Sagrado Corazón de Jesús son más que bienvenidos a asistir a lo que debería ser un evento muy
emocionante.

Estaba él a la orilla del lago Genesaret y la gente se agolpaba
sobre él para oír la Palabra de Dios, cuando vio dos barcas que
estaban a la orilla del lago. Los pescadores habían bajado de ellas, y
lavaban las redes. Subiendo a una de las barcas, que era de Simón,
le rogó que se alejara un poco de tierra; y, sentándose, enseñaba
desde la barca a la muchedumbre. Cuando acabó de hablar, dijo a
Simón: «Boga mar adentro, y echad vuestras redes para pescar.»
Simón le respondió: «Maestro, hemos estado bregando toda la
noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero, en tu palabra, echaré las redes.» Y, haciéndolo así, pescaron gran
cantidad de peces, de modo que las redes amenazaban romperse. Hicieron señas a los compañeros de
la otra barca para que vinieran en su ayuda. Vinieron, pues, y llenaron tanto las dos barcas que casi se
hundían. Al verlo Simón Pedro, cayó a las rodillas de Jesús, diciendo: «Aléjate de mí, Señor, que soy
un hombre pecador.» Pues el asombro se había apoderado de él y de cuantos con él estaban, a causa de
los peces que habían pescado. Y lo mismo de Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que eran
compañeros de Simón. Jesús dijo a Simón: «No temas. Desde ahora serás pescador de hombres.»
Llevaron a tierra las barcas y, dejándolo todo, le siguieron.
