OUTREACH PROGRAM
Take heart! I have good and bad news for you. The bad
news is that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on
Ground Hog’s Day; the good news is that Phil has been
wrong more often than he has been right. So for those of
you who want more winter (delayed openings, school closings...who could ask for anything more?) believe Punxsutawney and for those who are longing for Spring (no
snowy boots and floors to scrub) remember that the odds
are in your favor.
We thank you for your response to our sock drive as well
as to our request for self-contained food such as the cans
of spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, tuna fish and the other
random items that came with snap-top lids and made a
meal for our homeless as well as for all the young children
in the parish. This week we are asking for a repeat of those
same items but will add cereal, rice-a-roni, noodles and
potatoes.
PS Don’t forget the upcoming Do-It-Yourself class for next
Tuesday (as opposed to this Tuesday), the 24th in the Auditorium, at 6:00 p.m. You never know when you may get
the urge to change the flooring in one of the rooms in your
house and it would be nice to know exactly what to do and
what to purchase.
CHURCH IN NEED COLLECTION
On February 22nd, a collection will be taken for “The
Church in Need”. The monies collected at this time
will be shared among three areas of the world where
there is particular need for help:

=The Church in Latin America

Is God Calling You?
Some are called to be married, some to be religious
brothers or sisters, some to be priests, and some to
remain single. Let’s explore the process of a man
discerning God’s call to the priesthood and being
formed in it.
Pray about your vocation. Take any feelings or advice
that has led you to consider the priesthood and give
them to God, then wait patiently and openly for a
response. Realize that everyone has a vocation and if a
person is fully open to theirs, God will reveal it to him
or her.
Coming to know what God wants for us takes time. It
is a process. Following God is not about a one-time
experience. It is about becoming a friend in Christ and
friendships take time. In the Gospels, Peter and
Andrew, James and John left their nets and immediately
followed Christ. While that is true, we must not forget
that they had spent three years with Him. Even after
spending that much time with Jesus, they still largerly
did not understad. The same is true for us today. God’s
will become known to us over a period of time.
Kepp in mind that it is important to learn to desire what
God desires for you. All you need to desire whatever
God desires for you. Remaining true to the desire opens
your heart to receive what God wants tfor you. Then
God himself will take care of you.

Z niezależnej inicjatywy grupy Polaków z Long Island na terenie naszej parafii stanie pomnik
papieża św. Jana Pawła II. Zebrano już ponad 15
tys. dolarów. Szacowane całkowite koszty rzeźby,
transportu i instalacji to około 30 tys. dolarów.
Osoby, które chciałyby włączyć się w to dzieło,
mogą składać ofiary do 15 marca 2015 r. na
parafię z dopiskiem „Pomnik Jana Pawła II” lub
„Statue of John Paul II”. Czeki należy wypisywać
na: “Our Lady of the Assumption Church” lub “OLA
Church”.
Uroczystość błogosławieństwa i otwarcia pomnika
jest wstępnie zaplanowana na 24 maja tego roku.

“. . . I Will Do It, Be Made Clean”
There is a stark contrast in the treatment
of lepers in today’s readings. In the first reading
from Leviticus, the Lord directs Moses that the
leprous man be shunned. In the Gospel, Jesus
cures the man of his leprosy. When Jesus came
to earth, the mercy of God was poured over the
Land. I am very grateful that I live in the
“fullness of time”.
This week we begin the Season of Lent, a
time when we try to repay some of that mercy by
becoming more aware of the mystery of our
Redemption.
In today’s second reading, St. Paul gives
us his way of repayment: “. . . in every way, not
seeking my own benefits but that of the many,
that they may be saved”. This seems to me a
wonderful way to spend Lent. If each of us
looked to the “benefit of the many” instead of our
own selfish desires, what a different world this
would be! I plan on printing these words in large
letters and hanging them where I will see them
each day.

drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the
glory of God.”
