Our Parish:
As anyone who reads the street signs in Copiague can see, Our Lady of The Assumption parish began as a home
for Italian immigrants. The parish was established in 1929 with the blessing of Pope Pius XI. The Church’s front
door is located on Molloy Street, named after the then Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn, Bishop Thomas E.
Molloy. The parish buildings are surrounded by Dante Avenue, Campagnoli Street, and Leonardo Da Vinci Street!
In the ensuing years, and in spite of the Depression, these hard working people built a brick Church, rectory,
and later, a parish auditorium.
As the demographics of Long Island changed, many of the Italian parishioners moved on and were replaced by
people from many Latin American countries and from Poland. Today, Our Lady of the Assumption is one parish
with parishioners speaking several different languages in addition to English. In addition to four English language
Masses every weekend, the parish celebrates two Masses in Spanish and two Masses in Polish.
These Spanish and Polish Masses give those who come from these cultures the opportunity to worship in their
native languages. All other activities are carried out with the hope of living as one group of Americans, praising
God and living as devout Christians in response to Jesus prayer “that all may be one”.

THE FEAST OF THE
HOLY FAMILY
As a teen, I thought a serious pursuit of holiness required
opting out of marriage to enter a monastery. Holiness was
about lots of quiet prayer and apostolic work. Noisy family
life was a distraction to all this. The role of married folks was
limited to getting to Mass & the sacraments, obeying the 10
commandments, and getting into heaven after a stay in Purgatory.
The feast of the Holy Family shows how far off-base I was.
It reminds us, as Vatican II teaches, that all human beings
are called to the heights of holiness. That all states in life,
including student, teenager, and parent, offer abundant opportunities to grow in faith, hope, and love. That the nitty
gritty of family life, if approached right, can be a road to profound personal transformation and communion with God.
Think about it. The creator of the universe spent most of his
human life as a craftsman, working with dad in the family
business and ultimately taking it over. Mary, the holiest of
all creatures, spent most of her time changing diapers, cooking, and cleaning. The secret to holiness is not to do extraordinary things, but to do ordinary things with
extraordinary love and gratitude (Col 3:15-17).

The word seminary means “seedbed.” It is a greenhouse
where, in a sheltered environment, vocations can develop
till they can not just survive in the real world, but bear fruit
there.
The family is the original seminary. In its soil is sown the
call to share in Christ’s holiness and mission. Ironically, tending to the seedlings causes the parent/gardeners to grow as
well. So family, in God’s plan, is a community where everyone has growing to do. Maybe that’s why Col 3 talks so
much about forgiveness and forebearance!
The bottom line is this–we don’t become holy despite the
hustle-bustle of family life, but in and through it.

En la festividad de la Sagrada Familia, recordamos y
celebramos que Dios quiso nacer dentro de una familia para
que tuviera alguien que lo cuidara, lo protegiera, lo ayudara
y lo aceptara como era.
Al nacer Jesús en una familia, el Hijo de Dios ha santificado
la familia humana. Por eso nosotros veneramos a la
Sagrada Familia como Familia de Santos.
La familia es la primera comunidad de vida y amor, el primer
ambiente donde el hombre puede aprender a amar y a sentirse amado, no sólo por otras personas, sino también y ante
todo por Dios.” (Juan Pablo II, Encuentro con las Familias
en Chihuahua 1990).
Recordemos que “la salvación del mundo vino a través del
corazón de la Sagrada Familia”.
La salvación del mundo, el porvenir de la humanidad de los

Santa Madre, rogamos a tu Inmaculado Corazón por todas
las madres y todos los niños aún no nacidos para que ellos
puedan tener vida aquí en la tierra, y por la tan Preciosa
Sangre derramada por tu Hijo que puedan tener vida eterna
con Él en los cielos.
También oramos a tu Inmaculado Corazón por todos los
que realizan los abortos y los que los apoyan, para que se

Niedziela Świętej Rodziny – 27 grudnia
“Jezus poszedł z nimi i wrócił do Nazaretu; i był im poddany.
A Matka Jego chowała wiernie wszystkie te wspomnienia
w swym sercu. Jezus zaś czynił postępy w mądrości, w latach i w łasce u Boga i u ludzi “ ( Łk 2:51-52).
Z listu Św. Jana Pawła II do rodzin :
Rodzina — drogą Kościoła
Rodzina bierze początek w miłości, jaką Stwórca ogarnia stworzony świat, co wyraziło się już „na początku”, w Księdze Rodzaju
(1,1), a co w słowach Chrystusa w Ewangelii znalazło
przewyższające wszystko potwierdzenie: „Tak [...] Bóg umiłował
świat, że Syna swego Jednorodzonego dał” (J 3,16). Syn Jednorodzony, współistotny Ojcu, „Bóg z Boga i Światłość ze Światłości”,
wszedł w dzieje ludzi poprzez rodzinę: „przez wcielenie swoje
zjednoczył się jakoś z każdym człowiekiem. Ludzkimi rękoma
pracował, [...] ludzkim sercem kochał, urodzony z Maryi
Dziewicy, stał się prawdziwie jednym z nas, we wszystkim do nas
podobny oprócz grzechu”3. Skoro więc Chrystus „objawia się w
pełni człowieka samemu człowiekowi”4, czyni to naprzód w
rodzinie i poprzez rodzinę, w której zechciał narodzić się by
wzrastać. Wiadomo, że Odkupiciel znaczną część swego życia
pozostawał w ukryciu nazaretańskim, będąc „posłusznym” (por.
Łk 2,51) jako „Syn Człowieczy” swej Matce Maryi i Józefowi
cieśli. Czyż to synowskie „posłuszeństwo” nie jest już pierwszym
wymiarem posłuszeństwa Ojcu „aż do śmierci” (Flp 2,8), przez
które odkupił świat?
Tak więc Boska tajemnica Wcielenia Słowa pozostaje w ścisłym
związku z ludzką rodziną. Nie tylko z tą jedną, nazaretańską, ale
w jakiś sposób z każdą rodziną, podobnie jak Sobór Watykański
II mówi, że Syn Boży przez swoje Wcielenie „zjednoczył się jakoś
z każdym człowiekiem”5. Kościół, idąc za Chrystusem, który
„przyszedł” na świat, „aby służyć” (Mt 20,28), uważa służbę
rodzinie za jedno ze swych najistotniejszych zadań — i w tym
znaczeniu zarówno człowiek, jak i rodzina są „drogą Kościoła”.
INTENCJE MSZALNE
Przyjmujemy intencje na Msze św. na rok 2016. Ofiara za
intencję wynosi $15. Intencje należy zamawiać w kancelarii parafialnej w godzinach pracy. Nie przyjmujemy intencji przez telefon.
Można również uczcić pamięć swoich bliskich poprzez
złożenie donacji na Eucharystyczny Chleb i Wino na
wybrany tydzień ($50): w intencji osób żyjących (z okazji
rocznicy, urodzin lub w intencji dziękczynnej) lub w intencji osób zmarłych.
Osoba mówiąca po polsku dyżuruje w kancelarii parafialnej w środy wieczorem w godz: 19:30-21:00 oraz
w soboty w godz: 9:00-11:00.

Christmas in your heart. The Church celebrates
Christmas for an octave (8 days), and the
Christmas season until the feast of the Baptism
of Jesus by John the Baptist on January 10th.
This week is filled with beautiful feasts!
Tomorrow December 28th, is the feast of the Holy
Innocents, the infant boys killed by Herod
because he perceived a threat from Jesus. Let us
pray for protection for the unborn and for
respect for life at all stages.
On Friday, New Year’s Day, we celebrate
the feast of Mary, Mother of God. Let us ask Mary
for protection and peace for our country and for
the world. This feast is a holy day of obligation,
the Mass schedule is in the bulletin.
