From the Pastor’s Desk
This Sunday we celebrate First Holy Communion
Sunday with the Children of the parish. At a
special Mass this afternoon, 16 children of the
parish will receive Our Dear Lord for the first time
in Holy Communion, what a beautiful thing to
celebrate! I clearly remember my first Holy
Communion at Immaculate Conception Church
in Union, in 1989. We were all nervous and
dressed up in our special outfits. I don’t think we
truly appreciated what we doing (or Who we
were receiving) but like so many important firsts in
life, we don’t truly appreciate it until we grow into
what we are doing and take the time to reflect
upon it.
I know our children have been prepared well to
know who and what the Eucharist is and what an
awesome thing it is that they do this Sunday and
hopefully many, many more times throughout
their lives. Hopefully their relationship with Our
Eucharist Lord will continue to grow and blossom
throughout their lives and they will come to see in
the Eucharist their God, their promise of eternal
life, and their dearest and most intimate friend.
St. Therese the Little Flower was very devoted to
the Eucharist and she used to say that the Lord
does not come down to us in the Eucharist to
dwell in a golden ciborium, He comes in the
Eucharist to dwell in our hearts…may He
dwell forever in these children’s hearts.
Today is also Divine Mercy Sunday. Pope Francis
has declared this year as the year of Mercy.
Knowing that we are all sinners, all in great need
of God’s mercy and knowing that there is
absolutely nothing we could ever do to earn His
forgiveness, we rejoice today in the forgiveness
our Heavenly Father offers to us through His Son.
In the gospel this weekend we hear about how
Our Dear Lord breathes on His Apostles and gives
them the ability to forgive sins. What a gift! Our
Lord’s mercy is free for the taking, all we have to
do is ask for it…ask and you shall receive…how
good God is to us!
In this Easter Season there are so many gifts from
God that we reflect on and give thanks for. Let
all of us this week think of the blessings God has
given us. Let’s give thanks to God for the grace,
the mercy, the salvation that He lavishes upon us,
let it fill your hearts and let us continue to unite
our prayer with the prayer of the whole Church…
He is risen, He is truly risen…Alleluia!
Have a blessed week,
Fr. Kunz
Excerpts From The
Compendium — Catechism of the Catholic Church
What are the signs that bear witness to the Resurrection of Jesus?
Along with the essential sign of the empty tomb, the Resurrection of Jesus is witnessed to by the
women who first encountered Christ and proclaimed him to the Apostles. Jesus then “appeared to
Cephas (Peter), and then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at
one time” (1 Corinthians 14:5-6) and to others as well. The Apostles could not have invented the
story of the resurrection since it seemed impossible to them. As a matter of fact, Jesus himself
upbraided them for their unbelief.

be celebrating their First
Communion today at a

Virtual Pilgrimage of Lourdes, France
Sunday, May 1st at 7:00 pm
North American Lourdes Volunteers will present a 90minute VIRTUAL PILGRIMAGE to Lourdes, France here at
St. Clare. During this guided Lourdes experience, you will
immerse yourself in the Gospel Message of Lourdes as
given by Our Lady to St. Bernadette. You will have the
opportunity to touch the Grotto Rock and to
experience the healing grace of Lourdes Water. As part
of this spiritual opportunity to draw nearer to God with
Our Lady and St. Bernadette, you will receive a
Eucharistic blessing and pray the Rosary. A Plenary
Indulgence is granted to all the faithful, under the usual
conditions, who attend a Virtual Pilgrimage with North
American Lourdes Volunteers. Come and experience
the healing grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ through His
Immaculate Mother. Invite your family, children and
friends! Our Lady extends her invitation to all! The next
best thing to visiting Lourdes itself is a Pilgrimage journey
without the travel! Call the parish office at 629-0315 for
more information.
The K of C and D of I would like to
thank all that worked and
patronized the Lenten Fish Frys.

Meanderings of a Deacon:
I must write an article for the bulletin and have it in by
Wednesday Morning. I have many things to do this
day and I am running out of time. So you can see that
I am between a rock and a hard spot. What am I to
do? Why don’t I find a quiet spot where I can read,
reflect, and pray? I could record my thoughts and
experiences, sort of like a prayer journal. If I wish, I
could share these reflections with other people.
Sometimes I find it very difficult to do such a thing as
beautiful as that. You see, there is the parish, the fire
Department, home projects, and of course there’s
that new job that I have. With all that going on in my
life, you would think that I would need to take time to
find a quiet spot just to pray and be with our Lord.
You see, that is the problem in this day and time. We
place other priorities before our time with God. Do you
feel this way? I do. So what are we to do? It comes
down to this; it would be most beneficial for us to find
that quiet time to be with our Father. Our Father
doesn’t need our attention as much as we need his.
God has an open door policy; you can come in any
time. He will even forgive you for your sins through
confession, if you ask. He will listen to your problems, if
you talk to Him. The best part is He will even answer
you.
God bless,
Deacon Harv

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As
the Father has sent me, so I send you.’”
- John 20:21
Peace — the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus
sent the apostles out into the world to share His
peace and Good News, so too, He sends us. As
disciples of Jesus, we are called to be grateful and
generous. We should look for opportunities to share
His peace with our brothers and sisters not only within
our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as
well. In giving, you will receive the peace of Christ.

Dynamic Catholic, Alive!
Reconciliation. In today’s Gospel, we find Christ instituting the Sacrament of Reconciliation: “Receive the Holy
Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained” (Jn 20:22-23). Along with
Anointing of the Sick, Reconciliation is one of the two sacraments of healing. Catholics are required to confess
their sins at least once a year. Fortunately, Reconciliation times can be found on the Archdiocesan website.
During this Year of Mercy, are you open to receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation more frequently?

Sharing the Gospel
FUN & GAMES
After Jesus died on the cross, the disciples were
afraid people would want to hurt them, too. They
stayed together in a room and locked the door.
Then Jesus came to his friends, to show them he
was really alive again. Jesus changed their fear
into gladness. Have you ever been so afraid that
you just wanted to hide? Remember that Jesus is
with you when you are afraid, too.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for being with me when I
am afraid.
Mission for the Week
I will talk to God whenever I am afraid.

Mary Had A Little Lamb

Teacher, “if Mary had Jesus, and Jesus is
the Lamb of God, does that mean Mary
had a little lamb?”
