Watermark University
Full steam ahead! Our Watermark University semester is
chugging along with an abundance of offerings for all
interest levels. With this being said, it's never too early to
be thinking about next semester for opportunities to teach
a class to fellow Residents, Associates, and guests.
Teaching is a very rewarding opportunity to share your
passions and interest with others seeking to learn a new
hobby, talent, or craft. If you are interested in teaching a
Watermark University class for the summer 2016 semester
come see Jason Barrett or Karol Swain in the Community
Life Office to sign up as an instructor. The possibility of
class opportunities are endless. So, don't limit your
imagination to what you think is possible, but let's work
together to make the seemingly impossible...possible!
Pictured Below: Thanks to our visiting Dining
Service Director, Pat Caffrey, we were well
entertained by his impressive yo-yo skills! We look
forward to your return so you can share some more
yo-yo tricks with us!
Just a reminder our semesters are for three-four month
periods. Ex. Winter/Spring: January-April, Summer: MayAugust, Fall: September-December. Make sure to join in on
these wonderful opportunities to learn with us today!

Join us for a trip to Jamesport, Missouri for a
tour of Amish Country! Jamesport is the
largest Amish settlement west of the Mississippi
River. The Amish welcome tourist and visitors to
their home-business where they sell a variety of
things from baked goods, furniture, farming
implements, homemade textiles, and of course some
delicious country comfort food!
We will be leaving at 9:00 am from Greenbriar
to take a 2 hour drive to Jamesport. Once we arrive
we will have lunch at Gingerich Dutch Restaurant.
Following lunch we will be going to downtown
Jamesport to visit the Broadway Pavilion Antique
Mall and then take a short drive to the H&M Country
Store off the highway where you can shop for a
variety of delicious pies, breads, muffins, cheeses,
spices, candies, jams, jellies, canned goods, and all
other imaginable tasty edibles that the Amish make
so well! This cultural experience outing is a great
way to learn about other people and enjoy some of
their wonderful offerings that they share with the
outside world from within their tight-knit
community. Take this opportunity to join the
Greenbriar gang for a fun-filled trip to Jamesport,

Some Residents take to
Greenbriar like a needle to a quilt!
That couldn't be more true than for
Resident, Norma Boman. She has
been here for less than a month
and is already taken up many
opportunities that the community
offers, especially with her upcoming
Watermark University class,
Quilting!
Come check out a health presentation
just for the dudes! This class will discuss
a variety of health related topics for men
as well as some informational health
practices that will help to promote
healthy aging. This class will be lead by
Victoria Carpenter and the amazing
nurses of Interim Healthcare. Take this
opportunity to learn some useful
information that can help you age well.
Join us in the Theatre on second on
Tuesday June 21st at 2:30 pm to learn
and grow through health. Ladies are
welcomed to attend for that special guy
in your life too! Get out and get fit with
Men's Health Awareness!
She has been an avid quilter since her retirement when
she was first introduced to the craft by a dear friend who is a fellow
quilting enthusiast as well! Since needle touched material, she has
been hooked to the craft too! Norma would like to share her
passion for this craft by teaching others some easy and fun basics
for quilt making. Her class will start off with some small projects
and slowly progress to some more intricate work. Norma's
philosophy for quilting is simple, "if you can sew, you can quilt!" In
addition to the wonderful quilting work that she makes she is also
an avid reader and painter! Set aside from her many talents
nothing quite brings her the pleasure of creating art like quilting.
This semester you can join Norma for an opportunity to create art
and develop self-expression in textile form.
Thank you Norma for your enthusiastic embrace of thriving
at Greenbriar. It is really a special privilege to see someone
transition into our wonderful community with such ease and
enthusiasm. You are definitely the embodiment of what makes our
community extraordinary!
Poetry in Motion!
"Summer Breeze"
by: Annie Holler
Summer breeze fresh and sweet
Brushed the grass beneath my feet
It kissed the rose and dried its tears
Then danced over a brook without any fear
It led me on till I came to see and then to know
A breeze that only wanted to play
And bring me joy on that summer day

Out and About
AMC Theatre Outing:
"Free State of Jones"
Starring:
Matthew McConaughey
&
Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Join the Greenbriar gang for a trip to the movies
to see a new historic bio-pic, "Free State of Jones". This
film is written and directed by four-time Oscar
nominee Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit,
Pleasantville), and starring Oscar winner Matthew
McConaughey, Free State of Jones is an epic actiondrama set during the Civil War, and tells the story of
defiant Southern farmer, Newt Knight, and his
extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy.
Banding together with other small farmers and
local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led
Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the
Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Knight
continued his struggle into Reconstruction,
distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial,
figure of defiance long beyond the War. Take this
opportunity to learn a bit of history while enjoying a
movie on the silver screen! We'll see you in the
movies!
Bottom Right (Left-to-Right): Driver Jody Lewis, Margaret Gill, Marsha Leizer, and Sharon Craney pose
underneath a beautiful and ornate tapestry in the hall of columns at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The
gang had a blast at the museum!
