ARCHITECTURAL Describe architectural the community. DESCRIPTION features. | | see continuation Evaluate the characteristics sheet of this building in terms of other buildings within Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, 107 Grovers Avenue represents a solid, straightforward foray into mid 1890's Queen Anne /Colonial Revival design. Its boxy.rectangular 2.5 story, 4-bay x3-bay form is enclosed by an intersecting gable roof. Its main facade is dominated by a full length front porch and broad pedimented gable. The open front porch features square posts interspersed between spool-work railings. The original main entrance retains its original multi pane front door and cornice headed enframements. To the left of this door is an arched window containing colorful stained glass. The second floor exhibits a square, projecting bay which intersetingly is not lined up with the main entrance but staddles the space above and between the arched stained glass window and main entrance. The second floor is overshadowed by the gable's deep.tab bracketed cornice. The north wall features a large oval window with well molded enframements which presumably lights a stairhall. In general.windows contain 2/1 wood sash.Steeply pitched gables rise above the side walls. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history of the building. Built in 1895,107 Grovers Avenue is one of the oldest homes on this thoroughfare. Its lot was part of the City of Boston's land from 1869-1883. By 1886, its lot was labeled Parcel O, evidently owned by the Winthrop Shore Land Co. This house first appears on the 1896 Winthrop Atlas labeled N.L.Fales. During the late 1890's,Ira and Silas P.Fales lived here, (occupations?). By 1906,this house was owned by Ada B.Cottrell, wife of Millard F. Cottrell, restaurant keeper. The 1914 Atlas lists an E.S. Mylin as the owner but oddly.the Winthrop Directories do not list him. In fact no occupants are listed for this house in Winthrop Directories right through the 1940's.
