Message from Our Pastor

My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes,
Thank you for a beautiful Feast Day! May we continue to be, with Our
Lady, a blessing to all who are sick and those who care for them. And
now, Lent is upon us. As is our custom we have included the parish
schedule for Lent in the bulletin and on our webpage for easy reference
throughout the season. Lent begins this Wednesday with
Ash Wednesday. We have Masses with the imposition of ashes
scheduled throughout the day. While Ash Wednesday is not a Holy
Day of Obligation its popularity among us is an expression of its power
to focus our attention on the meaning of Lent and our own need to
“turn away from sin and believe in the Gospel”.
Taking advantage of the power of Ash Wednesday we set out
immediately on mission. Again this year we have embraced “40 Days
for Life” and taken our place as the parish community responsible to
cover Tuesdays. Please visit our Respect Life Ministry team at the
entrance to the church and sign up to pray with us for an hour on
Tuesdays to bring life to that place where now there is death.
Following another parish custom we have our parochial vicar
preaching the Lenten Mission. While he preaches at Mass every
Sunday the Lenten Mission will give Fr. Elvis the chance to take us
deeper into the spiritual life. It also gives us the chance to know him
and his journey better. Fr. Elvis’ mission theme is “A Lenten Journey
with St. Bernadette.” He will preach in English with simultaneous
translation into Spanish and French. He will also offer a weekly
reflection in Spanish on Monday evenings in the Parish Hall.
Finally, the ADOM Reconciliation Weekend is the Friday and Saturday
before Palm Sunday. This weekend is really to make Confession
available to those who have been disconnected from a parish
community. In order to make room for them I would invite all of us to
take advantage of Confession earlier in Lent. We have Confessions
every weekday beginning an hour before each Mass and Saturdays at
3:00 p.m.
Entering into the Lenten rhythm of the parish may the Lord greatly
bless your journey to Easter and new life!

Mi Querida Familia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes,
¡Gracias por un hermoso Día de Fiesta! Podemos seguir siendo, con
Nuestra Señora, una bendición para todos los que están enfermos y los
que cuidan de ellos. Y ahora, la Cuaresma está sobre nosotros. Como es
nuestra costumbre, hemos incluido el calendario de la parroquia para la
Cuaresma en el boletín y en nuestra página web para una fácil referencia
durante toda la temporada. La Cuaresma comienza este miércoles con el
Miércoles de Ceniza. Tenemos Misas con la imposición de cenizas
programadas durante todo el día. Aunque el Miércoles de Ceniza no es
un día de precepto su popularidad entre nosotros es una expresión de su
poder para centrar nuestra atención en el significado de la Cuaresma y
nuestra propia necesidad de "alejarse del pecado y creer en el
Evangelio".
Aprovechando el poder del Miércoles de Ceniza nos ponemos
inmediatamente en misión. De nuevo este año hemos adoptado "40 Días
por la Vida", y hemos tomado nuestro lugar como comunidad parroquial
responsable de cubrir los martes. Por favor, visite nuestro equipo del
Ministerio Respeto a la Vida en la entrada de la iglesia y regístrese para
orar con nosotros durante una hora los martes para dar vida a ese lugar
donde ahora hay muerte.
Siguiendo otra costumbre parroquial tenemos a nuestro vicario
parroquial predicando la Misión de Cuaresma. Mientras predica en la
Misa cada domingo la Misión Cuaresmal dará al padre Elvis la
oportunidad de llevarnos más profundamente en la vida espiritual.
También nos dará la oportunidad de conocer mejor de él y su camino. El
tema de la Misión del padre Elvis es “Un viaje de Cuaresma con Santa
Bernardita". Él predicará en inglés con traducción simultánea al español
y francés. También ofrecerá una reflexión semanal en español los lunes
por la noche en el Salón Parroquial.
Por último, el Fin de Semana de Reconciliación ADOM es el viernes y
el sábado anterior al Domingo de Ramos. Ese fin de semana es
realmente para tener la Confesión a disposición de aquellos que han
estado desconectados de una comunidad parroquial. Con el fin de hacer
espacio para ellos les invito a todos a tomar ventaja de la Confesión
antes de la Cuaresma. Tenemos Confesiones cada día de la semana por
una hora antes de cada Misa y los sábados a las 3:00 pm
¡Al entrar en el ritmo de Cuaresma de la parroquia que el Señor bendiga
grandemente su camino a la Pascua y la vida nueva!

Why Catholic?
Our Journey through the Catechism
Why Catholic? provides us with a way to deepen our faith and expand our knowledge of the faith as we work
and study together in small groups. Sessions are held in the Parish Hall on scheduled Wednesdays from
8:00 P. M. until 9:45 P. M.
Our next Why Catholic? session will explore various “Sources and Ways of Prayer” on
Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in English and on March 4, 2015 in Spanish.
Sacred Scripture, the Liturgies of the Church, the Blessed Mother and the prayers of saints are all sources of
prayer for us. Our prayer life is enriched as we explore these various sources of prayer and embrace what they
have to teach us about prayer.
