PAGE 4 PENTECOST SUNDAY May 24, 2015 Pentecost Sunday “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.” 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-6 By giving each of us different gifts, God made sure that the Church would have the right combination of time, talent and treasure that was needed to do His work. However, if one of us does not utilize our gifts, God’s plan goes unfulfilled. Some important work is left undone. May 24, 2015 PENTECOST SUNDAY PAGE 5 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Faith formation is the responsibility of the entire faith community. While parents are their children’s primary “teachers of faith” , all of us have been called to be models of lived faith. Our young people also need to participate in formal faith formation (Religious Education) classes. All students in grades 1—8 (not attending a Catholic School) should be registered in our Religious Education program. This program offers our young people opportunities to grow in their relationship with God, to learn about the Catholic faith traditions, and to prepare for the sacraments of Confirmation, Eucharist, and Reconciliation while encouraging them to live their faith each and every day. Registration for the 2015-16 year has begun. For more information please contact the Religious Education office: (847-679-1202 or [email protected]) A SIGNIFICANT DAY “And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were” (Acts 2:2). The Holy Spirit’s arrival on that first Pentecost was signaled by a rush of wind. We all know what it’s like when our windows are open just as a summer storm rises up. Curtains fly, papers become airborne, house plants shudder, dust is scattered. A rush of wind disrupts the orderliness of our home. The coming of the Holy Spirit, as celebrated each year at Pentecost, can also disrupt ways that have become comfortable and orderly. The Church always needs Pentecost. We need the breath of God’s Spirit to blow away any complacency or malaise that has settled into our faith. Jesus breathes on his disciples and they receive the Holy Spirit. With that reception comes the power to share the Good News of salvation. Today, this is no less true for us. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. PAGE 6 PENTECOST SUNDAY May 24, 2015 World Meeting of Families Prayer Join together with families from around the world in prayer. Pray the World Meeting of Families prayer each day with your family for the success of the event and for your family’s personal intentions. God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church. May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel. May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us! Names of Military Members are as follows: Master Sgt. John Giese (Air Nat’l Guard) Major Patrick Scanlan (Army) Ch. War.
