A NEWSLETTER FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF ORANGE BEACH
“Welcome to our newest City Council member Tracy Holiday, Place 2, who fills the unexpired
term of Tony Kennon who recently resigned. We wish Tony the best and look forward to working
with Tracy in the future. Have a great Fourth of July weekend and enjoy the holiday.”
- Steve Russo, Mayor
New Council Member Appointed: Place Two Filled
Mayor Steve Russo and the members of the City Council have been faced with what
some call the toughest decision since they were elected...to fill the unexpired term of
Tony Kennon, Place Two, who recently resigned his seat. After many resident calls
and much phone tag around the community, the council had a majority vote to appoint
Tracy Holiday to the seat. Tracy has served recently on the Planning
Commission and volunteered to assist with Media Relations following Hurricane Ivan. Her involvement in the City has been consistent and she
seeks to protect our community resources while looking at planned growth.
We congratulate Tracy and her husband Tim McCrory on the appointment
to the position. Good Luck to Tony on his future endeavors.
39th Annual BBQ: Another SELLOUT Despite Storm
Great Job!! Great Job!! Great Job!! What more can be said for all the volunteers,
firefighter chefs, drive thru staff, bakers, and chiefs. Despite the direct hit and exact
timing of Tropical Storm Arlene, the barbecue was a complete sellout of the 4,200 or
so pounds of meat. In the face of adversity, the fire department supporters made
another successful mark on OB.

The Orange Beach Community of Promise has launched a
Community of Promise “Backpacks For Kids”
pilot program called “Backpack For Kids”, which is designed
to assist families most affected in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan. The program provides nutritious and easy to prepare “kid friendly” foods and snacks for school
aged children in need during the weekends. Donations from our community can be made at drop off bins located at the Orange Beach Senior Center and the
Recreation Center’s front desk. Items needed include but not limited to: fruit cups, tuna packs, peanut butter crackers, single serving cereal boxes, cheese and
breadstick packs, granola bars, milk & cereal bars, applesauce, Vienna sausages, chex mix, raisins, juice boxes, animal crackers, pudding cups, lunch buckets,
microwaveable meals, slim jims, etc… Backpacks are discreetly distributed on Fridays to children who could benefit from this effort. For more information, contact Karen Clark, Orange Beach Community of Promise Administrator, at 978-4857 or Kristen McIntosh at 978-1348. Donations should be tax deductible so keep
your receipts on the items purchased as the Orange Beach Community of Promise is seeking its non profit status.
The City officially kicked off its Comprehensive Plan update on Tuesday
with around 100 attending the initial
meeting. Opportunities to sign up for
“Interest Groups” are underway with
many residents already on the list to
begin input on a wide range of community issues. Key Leader interviews
have also begun with efforts to gather input and data on future barriers and
current concerns while seeking to develop solutions to problems faced by
the City now and in the future.

Completing the 2005 season for softball and baseball many city employees gave of much time and
energy to coach, administer (thank you Pam
Davis), prepare fields, serve hot dogs, and just
watch great games. We appreciate all employees
and their families who made this year one to remember. The City of OB DARE Team, coached by
David McLain and Jerry Davis, placed 3rd in the
All Star Tournament hosted in Orange Beach. The 10U
All Stars made a good showing under Coaches Jeff
Moon, Mark Scott & Others. Great job to all boys and
girls who participated and continue to make OB great!
Continue Your Great Recovery
Glad to Have You Back
