RWCA Birthday cruise to Screamers in Wickenburg

Bob Myers Editor
F irst I want to thank the All Ford show at Sandersons for allowing me to
sell Ranchero raffle tickets at their great show...it is appreciated. And in
an unrelated note is a birthday party for uncle Jerry (69) (Jerry Jess ) at
Barro’s Pizza 40th St. & Greenway on Saturday Dec 18th @ 5:00 PM.. anyone who
knows Jerry and wants to enjoy pizza and wish Jerry a happy birthday is invited.
Our Toyz For Totz tee shirts featuring the artwork of Mike Rust were once again
screen printed at Nancy Perry’s Arizona Sportswear 602-938-1000…. and they look
maaaarvelous !!! She is another club supporter/sponsor that comes through to make
things happen for the better and because of her help we will once again be able to sell
the Toyz tee shirts for $10.00 !
If you are in need of tee shirts or advertising specialty items check with Nancy she has
a very positive outgoing attitude that really makes doing business with her a pleasure.
Also take note of the sponsors on the back of our Toyz tee shirts and if you have the
need for their type of services please give them a shot at your business.
I took a few pictures while the tee shirts were being done and they appear on the next
page.

The Cruise on Central didn’t go with out controversy. We had our
normal supply of bone head moves. The one where the mustang
driver did a burn out beside the cop standing in the middle of the street took the cake. That
caused the traffic to be cut down to one lane and the Earl entrance closed at Park Central. That
did give us a few more parking places.
The Club, thanks to Nancy, did well on the sale of brats and water. I would note that the toilets
and the ability to have the show at Park Central were due to Nancy Perry of Arizona Sportswear. Should this Cruise happen again we hope to be there.
The Club has a float that will be in the APS Light Parade. Come join us and have some fun.
We could use the help on Saturday Morning to early evening. Give Dick Sellers a call at 602268-0454. All we need is willing workers.
The Toyz for Totz run is Sunday the 5th of December. The schedule will be the same as last
year. Getting there too early creates short tempers and at times hard feelings because the parking lot is not available till 11:00. Remember this event is about the less fortunate kids. Last
Year the Cops Who Care organization serviced in excess of 900 kids. The economy hasn’t been
as good to some folks as others this year.
I have been asked “Why don’t we move the Show closer to Phoenix”? Well Maricopa County
is divided up among the Charity Groups in order that no child is left out. The Cops Who Care
and RWCA have been taking care of an area for years that was from Surprise to Aglia and
north of Wickenburg to Congress Junction on and bit north of that. The area is now from Morris town to Aglia to Congress Junction and a bit north of there. No other Charity Organization
of any size helps in this area.
The auto enthusiasts community have for the last 20 years extended the helping hand at Christmas so that Children and Families could also have a Christmas. I would say for those of us
who have experienced lean times we would not wish them on anyone. This is why even with
the limited parking we continue to hold the show in Wickenburg each year. I want to thank the
auto enthusiasts community for their support in the past years and ask that they continue to
support this activity.
Lets Keep Cruising

Well the toys for Toyz For Totz are bought and are safe in an undisclosed location.
Once again Phoenix Over The Hill Gang bought $500.00 worth of toys for the kids!!! Including that Wal-Mart got $5000.00 from our shopping spree. Also RWCA executive board
decided along with our monies donated to other charities we also wanted to help some families in the Phoenix area have a better Christmas so we have chosen 6 families with a total of
18 children which includes toys for the children and food for the families. John Sutton of
Ventura Foods an RWCA board member from years gone by is going to help with some of
the food for the families so with old friends and new friends we should be able to put it together to brighten someone's Christmas.
Well its midnight and I got to get this emailed over to Sandy at Print Source One so maybe I
can get it to you by this weekend !!!
See you at Toyz For Totz !!!! Don’t forget to buy some tickets on the Raffle Ranchero !!!

I have a correction from my last article about our Birthday Cruise to Screamers Drive-in in
Wickenburg. It was John Dunnaway who won the 50/50 pot of $39.50. He was also one of
three winners of the T/F quiz we did. CONGRATS, John!
And speaking of Toyz For Totz, yup, it’s less than a month away. We go toy shopping on November 7, when we wake up the clerks at the 59th Avenue/Bell Wal-Mart at 6:00 a.m. They
have been very supportive of our group in allowing us to come in and purchase over $3,000
worth of toys at one shot. We have a “fun” crew on board for this “heart-warming” duty. So
Wal-Mart, here we come! And on Sunday, December 5th you all will meet us at Union Hills
and I-17 between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. in the Honeywell parking lot. We’ll have coffee
and donuts available, so come start your day with the cruisers which will leave at 10:00 a.m.
We can’t get in the Wickenburg parking lot until 11:00 a.m. so we hope you have patience to
wait.
Oh yes, don’t forget the Chinese Auction. Please call me and let me know if you will donate
a “theme basket” or “item.” I don’t have very many items/baskets. They should be a minimum of $30. Pick a theme for your basket, ie. Italian dinner, candles, car products. Just give
me a call at 623/979-3327 and I can answer your questions about it. Remember, it’s for the
KIDS ! Jeri Myers is taking vendor and craft reservations. You can be inside the building or
outside. Call her at 602/943-3532. Crafters are $5 per table and vendors are $25 for a spot.
Be sure to mark your calendars and join us for a day of fun and food and looking at great vehicles. This is our 20th year for Toyz For Totz, so we have a special gift for the driver of each vehicle. Please plan to spend the day and it will make a whole bunch of kids happy this Christmas season. Your entry fee is one or more new, unwrapped toys. We’ll have our infamous
brats and hotdogs on sale. Also there are restaurants within walking distance of the community
center. We thank you for helping Remember When Cruise Association fulfill the dreams
of kids who are in need. Hope to see YOU there!

Just an update on the weekday car shows. In Sept & Oct we had 4 events.
Sept. 2 at the Alterra Sterling House of Peoria, Oct. 18 Glendale Adult Center,
Oct Thunderbird Retirement Center, Oct 27 South central Adult day care center, Oct 31 New Hope Covenant Church.
The church had a Halloween party- Sock hop.. great time.
The only hitch came at the Thunderbird Retirement center but that’s a long story.
One thing all the car shows had in common was they all fed us !!
So a special thanks to all our daytime car show participants.
Jeff Bacon, Joe Cathell, Bill Danon, Larry Folsome, Dee Giuntoli,
George Stebbins, Jerry Jess, Ray Mazzone , Bob Royal, Gene Remo,
Penny Peschurini, and Fred Pickering. I hope I remembered everyone and if I didn’t please let
me know so I can post your name also.
I hope we can count on you again in the future.
