The Rev. Harold Roberts is looking
forward to being with St. Peter’s

Wednesday night suppers, Adult

Wholistic Wellness Wednesdays: This is coordinated by Gini Fellows and
will be made up of a variety of different speakers who will be talking about
all different areas of wellness: Health, financial, vocational, spiritual…

New Adult formation offering:
Discovering your Faith: Believing, Belonging, and Living Faith Daily.
Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 pm starting September 11th facilitated by The
Rev. Harold Roberts and Sundays from 9:15-:10:15 beginning September
29th facilitated by The Rev. Melanie Lemburg. This will be an experiential
class, conducted in 10 sessions, where we explore different aspects of our
faith. The first session will be an orientation, so you are invited to come see
what it is all about and receive an outline of the course. Also, in the orientation session, you will have the opportunity to offer the questions that you
are longing to investigate. This class will be appropriate for both people
new to the faith and people who have been practicing their faith for a long
time (and all those in between). (See this page and the next for information
about Harold Roberts.)
Here’s a little information on
Harold. He and Jan have been
married for 45 years. He was
ordained for the diocese of Toronto
as deacon on May 20th, 1973
and priest on May 19th, 1974. He
has served as an associate in two
parishes in Toronto and then as
Rector in two parishes; (One had
about 200 members and the other
about 1200.) The Rev. Roberts also
served with the Canadian Forces
reserves as an infantry officer and
then as a Chaplain from October
1965 to February 1997. He was also
a Chaplain for the Metro Toronto
Police for 6 years.
Educated in the Toronto Public
School system, Harold attended
Richmond College (BA) and
Trinity College/Toronto School
of Theology (M. Div.); both in
Toronto. He’s also a graduate the
Executive Development Program
of York University. In 2008
Harold completed my D. Min. in
Congregational Development from
Seabury-Western Seminary in
Chicago.
For many years Harold Roberts has
had an interest in and taught many
courses in Progressive Christianity
at Redeemer and St John’s, Ocean
Springs.

September will
be a busy, busy
month in the life of
St Peter’s by-the-Sea.
Our Wednesday night suppers will
begin on Sept 11 with a new predinner offering Discovering your
Faith with Harold Roberts from
3:30 to 5:00, dinner starts at 5:15
followed by a wonderful series from
Gini Fellows on Holistic Health
at 6:00. If you would be interested
in preparing or helping with a
Wednesday night supper, be sure to
talk to Patti Nicholas or let Susan in
the office know.
Sept 13 The Men’s Grill’n Group
and St Peter’s Social Club will have
a fall fundraiser that takes you
to Italy for an evening. Get your
tickets early because they are selling
out fast. Then, mark your calendars and
be sure to check in with the fund
raising committee to help park cars
at CPR Fest on Sept 21. This is
always a lot of fun for everyone who
participates. The Krewe by the Sea will be looking for some new recruits so we can
definitely get a float in this year’s
parade, watch for meeting dates in
your email and Sunday bulletins.
ECW is gearing up for their Fall
Luncheon and will be looking for
lots of volunteers just let any of the
ladies know how you would like to
help out.
There are lots of other happenings
going on all month, so be sure to
invite a friend and come join us for
some fun and fellowship.

Hi there!
My name is Fran Burch and I
have been a member of St. Peters
by the Sea since I was child. As a
youth I was very active in EYC and
diocesan events such as DOY and
Happening. I am currently a pediatric nurse at Memorial Hospital
in Gulfport and have dedicated my
career to working with children
and young adults. I am married and have a beautiful nine-year-old
daughter named Shelby. I am looking forward to being the
co-facilitator of the Gulf Coast EYC along with Alice and
encouraging our young people along their journey
of faith.

Campus since 2009. He attends St.
Peter’s on a regular basis.

Third Sunday Forum to Focus on
Children and Youth
Dr. Kevin Walker will lead our
Third Sunday Forum on September
15 at 9:15 a.m. He will focus on the
Scientific and Sociopolitical factors
which are rapidly re-shaping the
U.S. Educational System in general, and Childhood Education in
Mississippi in particular. Some of
these changes are significant and
will impact the future of our students. He will include comments on
Bell Choir

Second Sunday Feed My Sheep
September 8 Christie Daniels
Thank you to all who have agreed to coordinate and
deliver the Second Sunday Feed My Sheep lunches.
The food is paid for by the Church Budget; Susan
Prendergast purchases and delivers the food to our
kitchen. Phil Parker had donated totes for the easy
delivery of the sack lunches. These large totes are
located on the floor of the pantry.

Everyday Sacred:
A Women’s Retreat

common, everyday lives as sacred. We will ponder the
ways that the church uses sacrament and ritual, creeds
and language, even the liturgical calendar to bring us
into awareness of the sacred – both inside the church
walls and outside of the church walls. For surely, every
day is sacred. In our time together, you will be invited
to enjoy simple journaling and art, communal sharing,
and time for quiet and rest. Cost is $175 (double room),

Roundup
You’ll want to pull on your boots,
round-up your young-uns, and hit the trail
on October 5th.
St. Peter’s Fall Roundup (a parish picnic and fall
celebration) will be happening at the Koury’s Cyprus
Break Farm: food, swimming, hay riders, pony rides,
and lots of good fellowship. More details will be
coming soon.

Chamber Orchestra
announces new
music program for
young people
Sinfonia by the Sea is a the youth program
associated with the Magnolia Chamber
Orchestra and will be rehearsing and performing at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea. The musicians are under the age of 25. Membership
is by audition only. This youth chamber orchestra features violins, violas, cellos, basses,
guitars, flutes, oboes, and bassoons.
Rehearsals are Mondays, from 5:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m., beginning September 9th. The first
concert will be October 13th at 3:00 p.m.

Common Ground Groups will
be returning in September. If you
would like to sign up to participate
in these small groups that meet once
a month in people’s homes to share
a meal, then sign up in the back of
the church. Note: you do not have
to be able to host the group in your
home in order to participate!
To assist the team we are asking that every parish publish the list below and
ask parishioners to visit their local Dollar Tree, Everything’s a Dollar or
similar store and purchase some of the items listed. The items can be found
in appropriate size containers at these retail stores. They can purchase
according to their budget and heart, we need every item in a quantity of
roughly 3000 each so there is plenty of need. Some may want to buy $5
worth and others may feel led to purchase $500 worth. Again we will take
all we can get.
We are a community of faith that seeks to equip and nurture all persons to
live out the love of God and to share the message of Jesus Christ through
servant ministry to the greater community.
Also, in September, we’ll be trying
a new offering called the Sunday
Brunch Bunch. It will be a group
of people who sign up prior to the
Sunday, and they all go out together
for Sunday Brunch at a local restaurant following that Sunday service.
We will offer this once a month
through the fall.

The Honduras Medical Mission team has a new opportunity for parishioners
across the diocese to directly assist with the mission. Over the past few years
the team has developed a more affordable and sensible “family pack”
approach for medical needs for routine ailments. The approach is to create
standardized packages of normal household remedies to give to every
family unit coming through the clinic.
St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Mission Statement:
Each parish is requested to designate a local contact for collection and
communication with our team so that we can gather the items from across
the state sometime in early October. There is plenty of time for this plan to
work. The local team in Laurel will consolidate and pack the items for
shipment to Honduras.
