Our Lady of Mount Carmel 235 East State Street Doylestown, PA. 18901 215-348-4190 Third Sunday of Advent December 13, 2015 www.ourladymtcarmel.org Tithing is “Stewardship In Action” FROM THE DESK OF OUR PASTOR Christian Stewardship This month marks the 50th Anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council. One of its most important documents was “The Declaration on Religious Liberty” which reflected the American experience and particularly the work of the Jesuit John Courtney Murray. Another Jesuit Theologian Avrey Dulles also pointed out the strengths and limitations of the Democratic model when applied to Church structure when he wrote “Liberal Catholicism, with its enthusiasm for Democratic models, runs the risk of introducing into the Church the ideologies and interest groups that compete for power in Civil Society. American Catholics easily forget the New Testament warnings against personal ambition and partisanship. In their zeal for updating the liberals too easily assume that Catholicism can and should do away with its traditional structures, its reverence for the sacred, its docility to authority and its esteem for sacrifice, prayer and contemplation.” Msgr. Charles H. Hagan PRAY THE ROSARY COMMUNION UNDER BOTH FORMS Join in praying the Scriptural Rosary every Tuesday at 7PM. We meet in the crying 1. December 20, 2015 - 9:00AM room of the church. 2. The Shepherds heard and saw and then shared the news of Christ the Savior and Lord. As still today, we do too. 2 3 If you walk down the main hallway at school, you’ll see the Principal’s Pride board about hallway down on the left side. Designed by our amazing art teacher, Mrs. Barr, the bulletin board is intended to showcase outstanding student achievement in all areas. The teachers select tests, quizzes, projects or artwork that exemplify a student’s best efforts and send it to the office to be hung in the appropriate section. Most of the time, that’s what you’ll see. Right now, though, the Principal’s Pride board is covered with colored hearts-hearts that represent random acts of kindness that the students performed over Thanksgiving break. Our Home and School service coordinator, Mrs. Christine Thiel, challenged the students at our Thanksgiving prayer service to go out and make a difference. She reminded the students that if each and every one of us performs a kindness for just one person and they then carry that gift forward, we create a positive chain of events without end. I was very curious about what the students would do with this challenge. Would they do something grand? Small? Would they even remember? Many of the children reported that they helped their families by decorating the Christmas tree, setting the table for Thanksgiving, holding the door for relatives, walking the dog, and raking leaves in the backyard. Others recorded that they helped others by sorting their clothing or toys so that they could send donations to a charity or shelter. Still others performed spiritual acts of kindness like the 6th grade student who prayed for the father of a neighbor who has terminal cancer. No matter how large or small the offering, the students were proud of their contributions. Of course, I hope that they continue to spread happiness throughout our community on a regular basis, not just at Thanksgiving. Service is an integral part of our mission at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and we all take it very seriously. Several staff members shared stories about what they did to surprise strangers with random acts of kindness with some wonderful results. After all, you never know when someone can use a gentle reminder that they are important, necessary, loved. In the words of Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Our Lady Of Mount Carmel School On-site PreK registration begins 9:30-10:30AM on January 12 for the 2016-2017 school year 5-Days a Week Half Day or Full Day Programs Children must be 4 yrs. old by August 31st To complete PreK registration please bring the following: *Original birth certificate *Current immunization records *$25 registration fee *Registration forms which can be pi picked up at OLMC School office e the first week in January.
