I would encourage families to recite the Rosary together in their homes especially during this month. You also may want to join the practice of praying the rosary with others in church during this month. The rosary is a powerful combination of mental and vocal prayer which uses the text of the sacred scriptures. Rev. Msgr. Charles H. St. Mary’s Hall More than a movie, it’s a question we all must answer in our lifetimes: DO YOU BELIEVE? Try giving yourself some peace and quiet. If you are new to meditation, come see how easy it is. Now that we are all getting back in a routine, you might find this is just what you need. For more information call Mary at 215-794-8207 3 The faculty, staff and students at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School celebrated Peace Day with a prayer service on September 18th. Peace Day offers us a time to think about our place in the world and our responsibility for making it a better place. The prayer service opened with students carrying forward posters of the major continents, water and bread and a special welcome banner. The continents remind us to pray for the world’s residents, especially those people experiencing hardship in their lives. The water and bread symbolize the sacrifice of the Mass, and the banner was a special project commissioned for the World Meeting of Families. During the service, each class chose a representative to light a candle from the paschal candle, personalizing the students’ desire for a year of growth in their classes and as a community. Each year Sister Thomasann changes the prayer service slightly to reflect the state of the present world. Since we were only a few days from the opening of the World Meeting of Families and Pope Francis’ visit, Sister wanted to stress the importance of community and family. She invited Mrs. Christine Theil, the head of our iServe club, to speak to the students in order to explain the goals of the service club and to share the current project, a welcome banner for visitors who traveled to Philadelphia and stayed at the Thomas Aquinas Center. The banner stated “Bienvenidos a Philadelphia, con carino, los estudiantes de OLMC,” which means “Welcome to Philadelphia, With Love, The Students of OLMC,” and was decorated with white doves signed by each student. The connections between our Peace Day prayer service and the start of the World Meeting of Families provided us with a very special reminder of the importance of family throughout the world, in our homes, and at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School!
