Our Lady of Mount Carmel School was blessed last week to receive a visit
from the staff and students from Our Lady of Confidence School, an
Archdiocesan school for students with special needs in Willow Grove. Sister
Judith, the principal at OLC, called about a week ago and explained that their facility was scheduled
to undergo much-needed plumbing work and asked if we would like a visit from the students.
You may recall that our 8th grade students chose OLC as the recipient of their Confirmation
project last year. The students held a Dance-A-Thon and raised enough money to donate five iPads
and cases along with money for tuition assistance. The students then visited OLC last February to
present the gifts and play BINGO with the students. We promised Sister
Judith that she was always welcome at OLMC!
Mrs. Wauck and Mrs. Davis quickly prepared the students to
receive visitors. The students broke into groups to pair up with the five
classrooms for OLC with students ranging in age from four to fifteen.
The pairs of students visited different activity stations: they created art
projects, read library books, played BINGO and identified leaves in the
ecological classroom. All of the students had a great time and by the
time we got to lunch, everyone was ready to eat!
After a lunch of pizza, chips, water and a cookie, the students
headed out to Burpee Park and the PreK playground. The students were
thrilled to have fields and playground equipment to play on since they
don’t have access to these spaces at OLC. The final stop was back at
the gym where Sister Judith presented us with a photograph of her
students framed with a signed mat. Sister explained to our students that
the picture is special because it takes a tremendous amount of effort for
some of the children to sign their names and all 39 signatures were
there!
I wish you could have seen the students spread out on the gym floor. Many of the younger
students were sitting on the laps of their buddies, happily talking to their new friends. The older
students were just as excited and several students wanted to know when we would be coming to visit
Our Lady of Confidence. I can’t describe how deeply moving it was to see the instant connection
between the students. As I scanned the crowd of faces, I was reminded that there is no easier way to
see the face of Jesus than in a child.

Overall response was very good. Many parishioners
were present to welcome the New Parishioners.
Displays of various ministries and services. Delicious
refreshments! Each person/family received a written
invitation from the Pastor. This was followed up with a
call from our Pastoral Council volunteers. The phone
call was very important. We will set the dates for the
coming year and inform the leaders of ministries and
organizations. Many additional suggestions to be
developed in committee.
3. Sub Committee Report
The sub group has been meeting regularly, working
hard and helping establish new ways of
communication in our parish. Greeting people as they
enter Church is one way of communicating our love
and concern for all. We will assist the Liturgy Team in
fully establishing the Greeters Ministry.
OLMC Mothers of Young Children
is actively preparing for their
annual Santa Breakfast benefiting
the Bucks County Housing Group and those families
serviced by the Doylestown Food Pantry.

Thanksgiving
Dinner Baskets
STATE STREET PLAYERS
We are in need of your help in
providing Thanksgiving Dinner
Food boxes for families in
need. Please call 215-348-8833
and leave your name and phone number, someone will
return your call and give you a code number, and the
size of the family and whether they wish a turkey or
ham. The code number maintains confidentiality.
What is needed: a frozen turkey, ham, roast
(whatever is requested) and all the makings to prepare
that meal. Ideas: fresh or canned fruits and vegetables,
cranberry sauce, gravy, bread for stuffing or stuffing
mix and one home-baked item (cookies, pie, nut
bread); candles, napkins, flowers or other items that
you would like to add. (Do not include any other frozen
items, only the turkey)
Put all ingredients in a box (or two smaller
boxes that are easy to carry.) Put the code number on
the box (boxes) and deliver to St. Mary’s Hall (next to
the Prayer Garden) on Tuesday, November 24, 2015
from 6AM to 11AM. We will deliver the dinner boxes to
the families that same day.

The mystery of the Incarnation

but as a daily practice.
As we welcome the new church year, we
offer opportunity to break open God’s Word. In
the midst of our hectic schedules and constant
busyness, God waits patiently for us. Let’s take a
journey into the depths of our hearts as we enter
Advent. God comes, comes, ever comes.
We gather Friday mornings during Advent
to pray with, reflect upon and break-open God’s
Word. Everyone is welcome. Bring your Bible.

The Sisters of St. Francis

The Parish Community Ministry (PCM) will be offering
the opportunity for parish families to make Advent
Wreaths the weekend of November 28th and 29th.
Fresh greens and supplies will be available in St.
Mary’s Hall before the 5PM Mass on Saturday,
November 28th from 8AM to 12 Noon and on Sunday,
November 29th. Wreaths will be blessed during the
following masses: 5PM (Saturday), 9AM, 10:30AM, and

How to Save Your Soul
Children learn that they are called to give back
something to God. Stewardship teaches children the
difference between needs and wants. Children’s
envelopes also encourage kids to share talent - a good
deed or a prayer they have written - or to write down
ways they have been good stewards.

You ask me to give you some advice about
saving your soul. This preparation consists not only in
setting ourselves free from both debts and mortal sin,
but in doing penance for our past faults, so that when
our good and evil deeds are put into the balance of
justice, with the divine mercy added to the right side of
the scale, our attachment to God’s service may weigh
as much as our former attachment to the world. We
ought to give alms, to be charitable, devout, patient,
and humble, in order to compensate for our former
defects in these virtues. Busy like a honey-making bee,
with a holy fervor, we should seek to get nearer and
nearer to God; for at our time of life, the hour
approaches when we shall appear before Him.
Withdraw your heart from the world before God
takes your body from it; keep your mind in perfect
peace however much it is occupied in business. A man
who is traveling post haste concerning a matter that is
of life and death to him does not turn his head to look
at anything as he passes. You must cultivate the same
indifference to mundane matters. Say in your heart, “I
am being led captive to death; what is this world to
me? I am going to God; I do not wish to entangle
myself in earthly things.” If, in spite of all our efforts,
we often find our attention distracted from religious
matters, what would it be if we took no pains to be
recollected? Consider that you are only beginning to
serve God; remember your former good resolutions,
and beg God to assist you in carrying them out, for you
have more experience as to the best means of keeping
them now than you had before.
Your life consists in drawing nearer to God; to
do this, you must endeavour to detach yourself from
visible things and remember that in a short time they
will all be taken from you. Practice spiritual reading
and prayer; go to confession and Holy Communion;
and let the one object of your life be to serve God and
to bear with things contrary to your will. Be most
tender in your love for God and your neighbor; act in
as charitable a way as possible to others, and be firm
as a rock in bearing the trials sent you by Divine
Providence. Good works are of no use unless we bear
the cross as well, nor do sufferings profit us unless we
lead a Christian life. If this seems hard to us, let us
contemplate our Lord and Master, and see how many
were His labors and pains. What He was, that He
wishes His followers to be, each in his own measure,
for he asked and obtained from His Father that where
He was there might His servants also be. Therefore, we
must not fear to follow Him in His pains here below and
yet wish to share with Him in His present bliss.
Although it be the more painful part to partake of His
sorrows, it is the better, for we shall enjoy our Lord’s
presence more fully for having toiled for Him here. If
we suffer with Him, we shall also reign with Him. Do
not let us be incredulous about this promised reward
nor slow in trying to gain it, for after a brief time of toil,
we shall enjoy eternal happiness.
