We quote Bishop Jackson with the following: Change Service Requested A ministry of ProBuColls Assn 9733 W Greenfield Avenue Milwaukee WI 53214 Deliver To: “This is how we can win the battle against the enemy. By standing on Thus Saith the Lord. Praise him in the fight. How God is good all the time. I weep about what is happening to our country. I’m brokenhearted. The future of “God” ordained America when the people say we don’t care what the Bible says! Hard hearts toward God. We never thought we would see this day. Sometimes it’s like living in a foreign land. There are plenty of lost souls right here in America. Give your all and obey the Bible. Just because we’ve lost some battles, God isn’t telling us to quit! Nothing is too hard for the Lord. We’re fighting this battle in the name of our God.” E. W. JACKSON is a Bishop of THE CALLED Church, a Marine Corps Veteran, graduate of Harvard Law School and retired attorney, Senior Fellow of the Family Research Council and 2013 Republican Nominee for Lt. September & October 2015 Page 2 AIRPORT CHAPEL / PRAYER ROOM / MEDITATION / MOSQUE??? by John Fisco World-wide there are about 150 “chapels” in airports, with 40 in the United States. Some are called chapels (66% in the U.S.) others are Meditation rooms; Prayer rooms; etc. Recently it has become National news that the Orlando airport Mgt. is planning a $250,000 Muslim prayer room (some calling it a Mosque). The uproar is great, as the reception of a chapel in many airports is not easily accepted. However some feel Muslims can get it passed. Franklin Graham stated: can you even think of Evangelicals asking for $250,000 prayer/chapel to be built? “Heaven forbid” would probably be the answer from any airport committee. five years. Not widely known news, so therefore the process is slow in gathering finances to do just that. The committee is a cross section of many faiths with 8 person working board and an 8 member advisory committee. The financial need is great, but not unattainable. It will cost around $130,000 with roughly $82,000 already raised. Presently on hold, waiting for a new Airport Director to be named. Well, Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport has had a committee and been working on having a Chapel at the airport for the past Chairwoman of the airport committee is Ms. Ruth Agrusa and can be reached at www.mkeairportmeditationroom.org or e-mail at agrusa3@ wi.rr.com or mail at P.O. Box 402, South Milwaukee, WI 50172. Ms. Agrusa stated that the great need for a Chapel/Prayer room as many times there is heartbreaking news for some people, service men and women coming and leaving the airport, and emergencies. A worthy need to be completed as soon as possible for Milwaukee. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. Spurgeon FAITH is full of inventions. The house was full, a crowd blocked up the door, but faith found a way of getting at the Lord and placing the palsied man before Him. If we cannot get sinners where Jesus is by ordinary methods we must use extraordinary ones. It seems, according to Luke 5:19, that a tiling had to be removed, which would make dust and cause a measure of danger to those below, but where the case is very urgent we must not mind running some risks and shocking some proprieties. Jesus was there to heal, and therefore fall what might, faith ventured all so that her poor paralyzed charge might have his sins forgiven. O that we had more daring faith among us! Cannot we, dear reader, seek it this morning for ourselves and for our fellow-workers, and will we not try to-day to perform some gallant act for the love of souls and the glory of the Lord. The world is constantly inventing; genius serves all the purposes of human desire: cannot faith invent too, and reach by some new means the outcasts who lie perishing around us? It was the presence of Jesus which excited victorious courage in the four bearers of the palsied man: is not the Lord among us now? Have we seen His face for ourselves this morning? Have we felt His healing power in our own souls? If so, then through door, through window, or through roof, let us, breaking through all impediments, labour to bring poor souls to Jesus. All means are good and decorous when faith and love are truly set on winning souls. If hunger for bread can break through stone walls, surely hunger for souls is not to be hindered in its efforts. O Lord, make us quick to suggest methods of reaching Thy poor sin-sick ones, and bold to carry them out at all hazards. From the Publisher: The Christian Courier Newspaper was sent to each of the Supreme Court Justices last month (as the headline was addressed to them) and the U. S. Mail couldn’t even be delivered to them!! The following is their reply from S. Burchett, Supreme Court Historical Society: Hi, we received a number of your newsletters each addressed to the Justices. Unfortunately we cannot forward these along and it may be better use of your resources if you remove our address from your mailing list to avoid wasting both postage and materials. Thanks. Sean Burchett Supreme Court Historical Society SO SHALL MY WORD BE THAT GOETH FORTH OUT OF MY MOUTH: IT SHALL NOT RETURN UNTO ME VOID, BUT IT SHALL ACCOMPLISH THAT WHICH I PLEASE, AND IT SHALL PROSPER IN THE THING WHERETO I SENT IT. ~ ISAIAH 55:11 As tens of thousands of Californians filled Anaheim’s Angel Stadium for the Southern California Harvest Crusade 2015 on Friday night, pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie delivered the event’s first nightly message, sharing how happiness can be experienced through our creator, who is “a happy God.” “Deep down inside, everybody wants to be happy. In fact, God prewired us that way,” Laurie, the founder of Harvest Crusades, told crowd in his message, which followed worship songs by the Christian bands THIRD DAY, Citizens & Saints and Phil Wickham. According to the Harvest team, 29,000 people attended in the stadium and another 29,368 people attended online. There were 2,353 professions of faith. Laurie asked how can we experience happiness. Not the way many think. “I hope everyone can get rich and famous and have everything they ever dreamed of, so that they’d know that’s not the answer,” Laurie quoted comedian Jim Carrey as saying. Sharing many other such examples, Laurie said we might wonder if happiness is a lost cause. But it’s not, he added, explaining that the Bible tells us everything we need to know about being happy as well as about God and how we can get to heaven. September & October 2015 Page 4 Tissue Company Cuts Ties with Planned Parenthood Over Pro-Life Videos by Leigh Jones Tissue procurement company StemExpress announced today it is cutting ties with abortion giant Planned Parenthood over bad press generated by an undercover pro-life investigation. In a statement sent to Politico, which first reported the news, StemExpress said it didn’t want backlash over the practice of harvesting tissue from aborted babies to detract from its other work. “We value our various partnerships but, due to the increased questions that have arisen over the past few weeks, we feel it prudent to terminate activities with Planned Parenthood,” the statement said. “While we value our business relationship with Planned Parenthood, that work represents a small percentage of our overall business activity and we must focus our limited resources on resolving these inquiries.” Denver Stalls Chick-fil-A Lease Due to Its Stand on Same-Sex Marriage by Anugrah Kumar Several members of the Denver City Council have stalled a lease for a Chick-fil-A restaurant at the city’s international airport due to the fastfood chain’s opposition to same-sex marriage. The Denver City Council’s Business Development Committee has paused the seven-year deal for two weeks, according to The Denver Post, which said none of the 10 members who attended this week’s meeting rose to defend Chick-fil-A. If the committee, which is scheduled to meet again on Sept. 1, chooses to reject the lease, any member can introduce it in the full council. Robin Kniech, the th council’s first openly was quoted as saying she gay member, wa local franchise generating didn’t want a loc “corporate profits used to fund and fuel discrimination.” The Atlanta-based company, which is for its commitment to emknown fo ploying biblical beliefs in its ploy business practices and has bu a very loyal following in the South, has restaurants in approximately 1,775 locations. 1 MISSOURI SCHOOL DISTRICT TO OPEN RESTROOMS TO OPPOSITE SEX A Missouri school district’s decision to open restrooms to the opposite sex is drawing a sharp reaction. “And so the ACLU is just pushing a very radical agenda here and schools should take a strong stance in defending every student’s rights to dignity, and privacy, and safety,” said Matt Sharp StemExpress and its work with Planned Parenthood has been the focus of a sting operation conducted by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), a new pro-life group that so far has released six videos about the tissue procurement industry. In undercover footage, Planned Parenthood executives haggled over prices for dead baby parts with actors posing as tissue buyers. Abortionists also talked about how they would alter the abortion procedure to procure the best, and most valuable, parts—heart, liver, lungs, brains. In an interview featured in several videos, a former StemExpress employee talked about how the company’s technicians would sometimes take tissue from an aborted baby without the mother’s consent. She also detailed the horror of picking through pieces of unborn babies that had been torn out of the womb, looking for usable specimens. Both Planned Parenthood, which claims it only gets procurement fees for fetal tissue, and StemExpress insist they did nothing immoral or illegal. Selling fetal tissue is a federal crime, as is altering the abortion procedure for any reason other than the mother’s health. StemExpress, a 5-year-old company based in Placerville, Calif., sells the tissue it collects to scientists conducting research, including those at state universities. After CMP started releasing its videos, two congressional committees asked StemExpress to explain its relationship with Planned Parenthood. Earlier this month, StemExpress sued CMP to prevent the group from releasing footage of a meeting with company executives secretly recorded in May. A judge granted a preliminary injunction preventing CMP from making the video public, but another judge on Thursday said she doubted StemExpress would prevail when the case goes to court. CMP’s undercover videos have created an unprecedented backlash against Planned Parenthood, whose employees come across as callous and jaded as they discuss pieces of dead children. In one video, a technician picking through remains in a petri dish excitedly announces, “And another boy!” Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards apologized for the tone in at least one video but was unrepentant about her organization’s practices. of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). ADF sent a letter to the Hillsboro, Mo., R-3 school district board this week, explaining that current law does not require unisex bathrooms or locker rooms. The American Civil Liberties Union sent an earlier letter to the district advising that Title IX’s prohibition against sex discrimination meant boys who identify as girls and vice-versa must be allowed to used the restrooms of their choice. The school district so far has not responded to a request for comment. September & October 2015 Page 5 Same-Sex Marriage Will Affect the Pews Before the Pulpit by Peter Sprigg Peter Sprigg is Senior Fellow for Family Policy Studies at Family Research Council. This article appeared in The Gospel Coalition on July 14, 2015. The Supreme Court has asserted that the U. S. Constitution mandates all 50 states to license civil “marriages” between same-sex couples. You are a pastor who believes that God ordained marriage to be exclusively the union of one man and one woman. You know research shows that, on average, husbands and wives—and children raised by a married mother and father—are happier, healthier, and more prosperous than people in other living situations. What should you do now? In the immediate term, the answer is “nothing different.” If you believe God ordained marriage to be the union of one man and one woman, you should continue to perform or host in your church only weddings that include both a bride and a groom. The Supreme Court’s decision does not bind churches or clergy. It is about the licensing of civil marriages by the state. Religious weddings performed by religious institutions or leaders are an (almost) entirely separate question. THE FIRST AMENDMENT (PROBABLY) PROTECTS PASTORS Throughout the debate over the potential redefinition of civil marriage, the question of its effect on religious liberty has been a recurring theme. Accordingly, the question “Will my church (or pastor) be forced to perform same-sex weddings?” has often been raised. Sometimes it’s been raised by Christians who oppose redefining marriage in order to illustrate the potentially shocking implications of such a redefinition. Recently, a rumor raced around the internet that a Vermont pastor had already been sentenced to a year in jail for refusing to perform same-sex weddings. The rumor was implausible from the start, and was proven to be false, with the purported source being two “fake news” sites. Even supporters of marriage redefinition have willingly replied to such fears, and dismissed them as a straw man. They assure us: “Same-sex marriage will have no effect on religious liberty—no pastor or church will ever be forced to perform a same-sex wedding.” Some legislatures which have redefined marriage, such as Maryland’s, have said this explicitly in the text of their bills. The First Amendment probably provides such protection already. For example, states surely may not prohibit a person from marrying someone of a different religion. Yet, as Justice Elena Kagan pointed out in oral arguments, there are many rabbis who will not perform a wedding of a Jew to a non-Jew, and they suffer no sanction. OTHER THREATS TO RELIGIOUS LIBERTY WILL COME FIRST So if the Supreme Court’s ruling will not force pastors or churches to perform same-sex weddings, is religious liberty perfectly safe? The answer is an emphatic “No.” This is because the “free exercise” of religion involves more than just the performance of religious rituals by religious leaders in a religious setting. President Obama displays a limited, restrictive view when he refers to “freedom of worship” rather than “freedom of religion.” True religious freedom involves the freedom of all people of faith not only to believe but also to act on their beliefs. Most Americans agree with this concept. Eighty-one percent of Americans in a WPA Opinion Research survey commissioned by Family Research Council agreed that “government should leave people free to follow their beliefs about marriage as they live their daily lives at work and in the way they run their businesses.” Those most immediately affected by the Court’s ruling are public officials who issue marriage licenses, such as clerks or magistrates. Those unwilling to actively participate in same-sex “marriage” should have some ability to opt out, as legislatures in Utah and North Carolina have acted to ensure. Yet some people—such as the editorial board of the New York Times— actively oppose any such accommodation, spuriously equating a sincere belief that marriage is the union of a man and a woman with racism and segregation. Persons in private businesses will also come under new pressure, similar to what we’ve seen in the wedding industry. Christian business owners—photographers, florists, and bakers—who have declined to participate in the celebration of same-sex “weddings” have already been dragged into court and subjected to crushing fines. We can expect more of this coercion. Non-profit status and a religious affiliation or purpose will also not be enough to protect an organization from legal pressure. If Christian colleges decline to rent married-student housing to legally married same-sex couples, will federal tax-exempt status, student loan funds, or (worse yet) accreditation be threatened? CONCERNS FOR YOUR CHURCH There are many ways a local church could be affected even if its pastor is not. For example, if a church rents facilities to groups in the community, some may claim it’s a “public accommodation” and should be open to a same-sex wedding and/or reception. (Churches should specify in writing what their policies are for such events. The Alliance Defending Freedom offers models for churches to use.) Further, some already claim tax exemptions are a form of government subsidy and should not be available to those out of step with public policy. This applies not just to the income tax exemption church members get for their donations, but also to the exemption from local property taxes churches as an organization enjoy. Could your church afford the property taxes on all your buildings and land? Finally, pastors may not be ordered to perform same-sex weddings—but they might be forbidden to solemnize civil marriages if they refuse. Not all of these infringements on religious liberty will take place immediately. Some may be avoided altogether. Legislators at both the state and federal level should act as soon as possible to forestall them. However, if the freedom of clergy to refuse same-sex weddings is all that is protected, true religious liberty will be lost. Get up!” From under the covers came mumbles, “I don’t want to go!” “What do you mean?” she said. “That’s silly! Now get up and get dressed and go to church!” “No!” he shot back. “I’ll give you two reasons. I don’t like them and they don’t like me!” “Nonsense,” she told him. “I’ll give YOU two reasons to go. First, you are 42 years old, and second, you are the PASTOR!” Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. ~ Hebrews 13:17 (HCSB) Page 8 September & October 2015 CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP® (CEF) OF SOUTHEAST WI IS LOOKING TO IDENTIFY 35 CHURCH PARTNERS TO PARTICIPATE IN A NATIONAL OUTREACH CALLED GOOD NEWS ACROSS AMERICA®, COMING TO MILWAUKEE JULY 18-30, 2016. Researchers Digitally Unwrap Ancient, Charred Leviticus Scroll (WNS)–The contents of a 1,500-year-oldparchment scroll, burned so badly it could not be opened without destroying it, has remained a mystery since its excavation, 45 years ago, from inside the Holy Ark of the synagogue at Ein Gedi, Israel, on the western shore of the Dead Sea. But scientists at the University of Kentucky recently used a new software program to digitally unwrap parts of the document and analyze its text. They were surprised to find the first eight verses of the book of Leviticus enshrouded within the scroll. The most ancient manuscript of Leviticus that archeologists have discovered so far dates to the first century B.C. and is part of the Dead Sea scrolls. Researchers have found no other copies of the book dated to within a thousand years of that. “It is important to go as far back as possible to the original sources and to have continuous examples of copies of texts without one-thousand-year gaps where we can lose track of things,” Seales said. India’s government blocks access to porn websites (WNS)–Millions of India’s online movie-browsers met a mysterious information blockade as laptops glowed with a cryptic message: “This site has been blocked as per the instructions of Competent Authority.” India’s government required internet service providers to block 857 objectionable websites. Telecommunication of- ficials say the sweeping censorship is meant to control easy access to sexually explicit material. The government made no official statement to defend the sweeping censorship, but telecommunications officials say the order is meant to promote moral decency and protect children. “Free and open access to porn websites has been brought under check,” N.N. Kaul, spokesman for India’s telecom department, told Reuters, adding, “We don’t want them to become a social nuisance.” Sweet Cakes Raises Almost Triple State Fine on Faith-Based Funding Site by Sarah Padbury Christians looking to raise funds for religious liberty causes have a new crowdfunding option that won’t kick them off the site for defending their faith. In April, popular crowdfunding site GoFundMe halted a campaign raising money for Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa. Oregon’s labor commissioner found the couple guilty of violating state anti-discrimination laws when they refused to bake a cake for a same-sex commitment ceremony and ordered them to pay $135,000 in damages to the lesbian couple. Activists brought the fundraiser to the attention of GoFundMe staff, who declared it in violation of the site’s terms of agreement. Company policy says the site cannot be used “in defense of formal charges of heinous crimes, including violent, hateful, or sexual acts.” But friends opened a new campaign in August using Continue to Give (CTG) (CTG), a faithbased giving platform, with the goal of raising $150,000. In just two weeks, the campaign has raised $390,000 and boasts more than 20,000 social media “shares” and 8,400 comments from well-wishers. September & October 2015 Page 9 10,000 STAND UP FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, BIBLICAL MORALS AT SC’S “WE STAND WITH GOD” RALLY At least 10,000 people gathered at the South Carolina State House for “Stand with God, Pro-Family Rally,” where Republican presidential candidates and U.S. senators spoke about faith and moral issues such as same-sex marriage and abortion. High School Marching Band Benched over Christian Hymn by Todd Starnes There was no halftime show under the Friday night lights at Mississippi’s Brandon High School — the marching band had been benched. The band was ordered off the field because the Christian hymn “How Great Thou Art” was a part of their halftime show — in violation of a federal court order. “The Rankin County School Board and District Office are very saddened students will not be able to perform their halftime show they have worked so hard on this summer,” the district wrote in a statement to the Clarion Ledger newspaper. In 2013 a student sued the district over a series of Christian meetings that had been held on school property, the newspaper reported. The district later settled the lawsuit and acknowledged they had violated the student’s First Amendment rights. In July, U.S. District Court Judge Carlton Reeves ruled the district had violated the agreement after a Christian minister delivered a prayer at an awards ceremony. Judge Reeves, who was appointed to the bench by President Obama, came down hard on the school district — ordering them to pay thousands of dollars in fines. He also warned the district that future violations would cost them $10,000. “Defendants are permanently enjoined from including prayer, religious sermons or activities in any school sponsored event including but not limited to assemblies, graduations, award ceremonies, athletic events and any other school event,” the order reads. Word about the band getting benched spread across the town quicker than kudzu. I must have received emails and Facebook messages from nearly the entire state. Something must be done to right this wrong, people said. A message had to be sent to the likes of Judge Reeves. Locals gathered in coffee shops and garages to devise their plan. And what they did — would become known as the musical shot heard around the world. During halftime of Friday night’s game – a lone voice began to sing the forbidden song. “Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee,” the singer sang. And then – something remarkable happened. Brittany Mann was there and she witnessed the entire moment of defiance. “We were just sitting there and then one by one people started to stand,” she told me. “At first, it started out as a hum but the sound got louder and louder. She said it was a “truly incredible” moment to watch hundreds of people singing together in the stadium – a musical act of civil disobedience. “We may be pictured as toothless, barefoot, uneducated people around the country, but we are far from it,” nearby resident Mandy Miller told me. “I’m from Mississippi and I’m not ashamed to take a stand.” Oh what a sight it must have been — as hundreds and hundreds of people stood together and with one voice — sent a message to Judge Reeves. “This is the kind of thing that makes me proud to be from the South,” Miss Mandy told me. “We are getting tired of being told to sit down and shut up. People are ready to fight back.” Miss Mandy is absolutely right. The time has come to stand up to the secularists. The time has come to put an end to their cultural jihad. I hope the Rankin County School Board will reconsider its decision and allow the marching band to resume performing “How Great Thou Art.” And should Judge Reeves make good on his threat to financially punish the school district, I will personally pay the $10,000 fine. Most significant, “Called for Life” reminds us of the risk, the honor, and the joy to be known when God and others are served without reservation. Waterbrook Press $23.00 “Compelling, factual, and emotional, “Called for Life” draws readers to reflect on their own journeys to faith in Christ” ~ Nancy Writebol, SIM missionary and fellow Ebola Survivor “You will be riveted by this extraordinary couple who are called for life to serve the Lord Jesus Christ – the Great Physician!” ~ Franklin Graham, president and CEO, Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Agents of Babylon by David Jeremiah What the Prophecies of Daniel Tell Us about the End of Days Throughout history, Babylon has been a symbol of the world’s worst evils – extreme decadence, infinite cruelty, ravenous power, and implacable contention against God. And nowhere in the Bible do we get a more vivid picture of the malevolent nature of Babylon than the book of Daniel. Teeming with prophetic markers and visions – many of which have already been fulfilled – the parallels between the world described in the book of Daniel and the world we are living in today are positively staggering. Agents of Babylon not only offers an in-depth exploration of the characters and prophecies contained in the book of Daniel but also includes a dramatic retelling of Scripture that brings ancient prophecy to light like never before. The prophecy is clear. Babylon is ascending, and Daniel’s dreams contain the clues to weathering the nightmare that is yet to come. Everywhere we turn, battle lines are being drawn – traditional marriage vs. gay marriage, pro-life vs. pro-choice, personal freedom vs. governmental protection. Seemingly overnight, culture has shifted to the point where right and wrong are no longer measured by universal truth but by popular opinion. And as difficult conversations about homosexuality, abortion, and religious liberty continue to inject themselves into our workplaces, our churches, our schools, and our homes, Christians everywhere are asking the same question. In “Counter Culture” author David Platt shows Christians how to actively take a stand on such issues as poverty, sex trafficking, marriage, abortion, racism, and religious liberty and challenges us to become passionate, unwavering voices for Christ. THE LINES HAVE BEEN DRAWN. The moment has come for Christians to rise up and deliver a gospel message that’s more radical than even the most controversial issues of our day. National Collection Week for gift-filled shoeboxes is November 16-23; however, shoebox gifts are collected year-round at the Samaritan’s Purse headquarters in Boone, North Carolina. During National Collection Week, some 4,000 drop-off locations will open their doors to receive gifts in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Using special tracking technology, participants can follow their box online to discover where in the world their gift is delivered by using the donation form found at: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/ follow-your-box/ A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. Be a part of changing children’s lives all over the world in Jesus’ Name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child. “At any given time there are more than 8,500 volunteers across the United States making important progress in our effort to collect as many gift-filled shoeboxes as possible,” said Randy Riddle, Operation Christmas Child Director in the United States. “Each shoebox gift represents one more child who will learn he or she is loved and not forgotten.” Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to more than 124 million children in more than 150 countries and territo- ries. In 2015, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 11 million children. To get more information on how to fill a shoebox, go to www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/buildonline The Purpose of Operation Christmas Child is to use gift-filled shoeboxes to share God’s love in a tangible way with needy children around the world. More than 2.8 million children have participated in The Greatest Journey, the 12-lesson discipleship program created by Samaritan’s Purse for children who receive Operation Christmas Child boxes. The Greatest Journey is one of the largest discipleship programs in the world, implemented through a global church network to help children know and follow Jesus Christ.
