North Course description: Deep ocean views to the
horizon guide all 18 tee shots on the North Course. Open
canyons and elevated plateaus with a palette of one
hundred colors contrast the distinct green edges of the
fairways and greens. One can feel complete isolation on
this course – experience only the sounds of birds’ wings
and the salubrious perfume of unique flora. With several
holes on the cliff ’s edge, the Pacific Ocean draws focus
from the green, beckoning players to experience one of
the finer points of the course. South Course description:
Ocean south is a flow of contrasts: from brush gardens
framed by sage and eucalyptus trees, to the greens which
drop at every side by deep chasms.
The sheer variety of vegetation on the
South Course makes playing quite the experience, surrounded by appealing hints at
florals and the ocean winds as they breeze
through the course.
Several holes permit 270 degree views
of the vast Pacific, with the sight of seabirds and sailboats guiding the fresh ocean
breeze.

#405 - Power to the People
This 24”x36” four-color poster is signed by
artist John August Swanson. Adapted from
an earlier hand printed serigraph, it is a very
compelling piece for him because of his
experiences in looking for work. It connects
with his family life, as his mother, an
immigrant from Mexico, was a garment
worker who had joined the International
Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union in the early
1930s. He states that “it is my hope that this
art work might serve as an inspiration and a
tool for those working to organize those who
have been displaced and marginalized by economic injustice into compassionate communities
empowered to implement justice and bring peace.
John August Swanson, born in 1938 in Los Angeles, paints in oil, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media,
and is an independent printmaker of limited edition serigraphs, lithographs, etchings, and other prints.
Since 1969, his art has reflected his strong heritage of storytelling that includes Bible stories and social
celebrations. His parables optimistically embrace life and one’s spiritual transformation.
One of Mr. Swanson’s beautiful works, “The Great Catch,” which recounts a story from the fifth chapter
of Luke about struggle, patience, faith, and abundance in Christ, can be seen in the lobby of the Grimm
Student Union at Concordia University.

#406 - Struggle for Justice
This black and white poster, signed by artist John August Swanson, was
first created in 1972 to help raise money for the United Farm Workers.
The original printing was limited to one hundred posters. His idea for
the poster design was to use a statement from Cesar Chavez’s 1968 speech
to create a “newspaper,” a montage of photos and lettering. In 2011, he
decided the poster should be reprinted and revised it by adding a few new
images and other minor changes. It is the artist’s hope that this poster will
bring Chavez’s powerful words to students, to union workers, and to those
who struggle for justice; and he hopes it will encourage, strengthen and
empower those who seek a just and peaceful world.

#419 - “Faster, Higher, Stronger”
Wyland created this lithograph for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. In this magnificent commemorative
painting, Wyland showcases nature’s ultimate athletes, a trio of powerful dolphins surging through heavy
seas, to represent the Olympic motto, “Faster, Higher, Stronger.” It is hand signed, numbered and framed.
Renowned marine life artist Wyland changed the way people think
about our environment when he started painting life-size whales
on the sides of buildings in the 1980s. Today, the Wyland name has
become synonymous with the new generation of awareness about
environmental conservation. A celebrated painter, sculptor,
muralist, writer, filmmaker, and music producer, he is one of the
most prolific artists anywhere. With one-man shows at art
museums and art collected by people and corporations in over 100
countries, he has been recognized by the world’s most prestigious
organizations, including the United Nations. As an official artist for
the United States Olympic Team, he created large-scale art events for
the Vancouver and Beijing Olympics.
This year Wyland Galleries celebrates its 35th anniversary. They started with a small gallery in the
renowned art community of Laguna Beach; and, as the response to his art and mission grew, Wyland
Galleries expanded to galleries across the United States from Hawaii to Florida.

#420 - “In His Image” by Artist Victor Bregeda
40”x30” Giclee on canvas, limited edition print, framed and matted, number 13/350, includes
Certificate of Authenticity.
Russian-U.S. artist Victor Bregeda was born in 1963 in the city of Taganrog into a family of painters.
After completing his art studies at an art university in Moscow, Bregeda made a decision to go along with
his own personal comprehension of what creative art was really all about. His key directions are
working with Plein Aire Landscapes, still life and portraits, performed in a metarealistic style. Victor’s art
is displayed in art galleries and museums nationwide and worldwide.
The original oil painting of this piece was created in Maui in 2005 and
is valued at $20,000-$30,000. The following background information
about this artwork was shared by Sargent’s Fine Art in Maui:
Victor was here on his annual visit and typically we would see him every
evening at the gallery for a show to meet with collectors and new fans of
his work. On this visit, he was “missing” for a couple of days. Attempts
to reach him by cell phone were not successful, and we were planning to
send someone up to the cottage to see what was going on. Just then,
Victor appeared at the gallery, with this painting in his hands. He
explained that he hadn’t eaten, drunk, slept or bathed in 36 hours. He
had a vision of this piece and couldn’t stop the painting process until it
was completed. The image that he had in his brain was unfolding much
too quickly for the brush to keep up with. He had to put the brush down
and paint most of the angels with his fingers until the painting was
finally finished. This painting is one of the most incredible achievements
of his entire life. It is a treasure for anyone who owns and shares it.
