! Knights of Columbus Msgr Clement Kern Council #8284 555 S. Lilley Rd Canton, Michigan 48188-1103 June 23, 2016 IMPORTANT NOTE - Our July, August and possibly September general meetings will be held at the Fr. Victor Renaud K of C building in Plymouth due to the ongoing remodeling work being done in the gym and kitchen areas of St. Thomas a’Becket complex. Renaud Council is located at 150 Fair St in Plymouth (corner of Mill St. & Fair St, just before the railroad tracks)…take Lilley north from the church to get there. 2016 Kern Council Golf League - After seven weeks of golf, we are approaching the half way mark for our summer golf league. By average score, our three top golfers so far are: Robert Craighead (Ave Score 39.71), Tom Alberty (40.00), Greg Jacobs (40.29). 2016 Golf Outing - Don’t forget, our 13th annual Council Golf Outing will be Saturday August 20th this year. See the flyer below for the details. Use the form attached to this newsletter or go to our website to register your foursome, two-some, or single golfer participation. We are taking sign-up’s now! You don’t have to wait to August! We are also accepting any donated “gifts” you may want give us so we have prizes to offer all participants at the dinner following golf. Typical items like gift cards, golf “things” of any kind, bottles of booze, etc. are welcome. Get those donations to Ed Harkins or Rick St. Peter. Remember that all funds we raise in our annual outing go to support St. Vincent DePaul Society. Good fun for a good cause! Charity Poker - We finished our latest poker event this past weekend at Vision Lanes in Westland. Chairman Ed Harkins will give a full report at our July general meeting, but he advises that we had a very successful event and made over $3500 for our efforts. Thanks to the 16 men that manned the 24 various time slots over the four days we worked. A special thanks to Jim Allen, Mike Pisano, Dennis Inman and Ed Harkins for taking two or more time slots. Jerry Grzesik, Mike Riley, Duke Hynek, Denny McCann, Frank Dziuban, Jorge Villanueva, Ed Queen, Rich Lister, Ben Keyserling, Dennis Keller, Tony Vann and John Spencer were each able to take a single time slot as well. A very big thanks to all! Without a good turnout of volunteer workers, these charity poker events are impossible to do. However, they can be very profitable for the council, so we want to do as many as we can! Please help us out and volunteer next time! Mark your calendars for our fourth (and final) event of 2016 which will take place at Malarkey’s Irish Pub in Westland on September 19th thru the 22nd. Other June Council business - Our new officer team will begin their new terms next month (effective July 1st actually). This month we close out another fraternal year…the 2015/2016 fraternal year. Don’t forget that officer training occurs this coming Saturday, June 25th, at St. Thomas a’Becket. Registration starts at 8:00 am and training begins at 9:00 am. Our pancake breakfasts next year will be on the 2nd Sunday of the month, except for May which will be the 1st Sunday. Special Olympic volunteer opportunities this summer and fall include a soccer tournament and a baseball game. More info to follow on that. We had a great turnout for our June 12th Corporate Communion and breakfast afterward.
