Greetings from CCPS
Time has flown by so quickly and the school will be returning home very
soon to our upgraded premises at 1 Sallim Road. We are very excited about it
and look forward to welcoming you to our premises once we have settled in.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your committed
support and belief in our partnership to develop your daughters as
compassionate leaders and passionate learners and for walking this journey in
upgrading our school. Your support in raising funds has been critical in
making our school upgrading possible.
As 2014 draws to a close and we look forward to 2015, may I wish you and
your family a fruitful year ahead.

National Day Celebration 2014
On 8 August 2014, CCPS celebrated the nation’s birthday with pride and joy. The celebration started with
an observance ceremony accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem and recitation of the pledge.
Pupils were led by our Music teachers, Mrs Jasmine Tan, Mrs
Evelyn Pong and Ms Joslyn Chew in the singing of National Day
songs. Pupils were very enthusiastic in the sing-along session.
After the observance ceremony, P1 to P3 pupils participated in sports and games. Each team had to piece
together puzzle pieces that form the iconic buildings found in Singapore and this year’s National Day
theme logo. There was thunderous cheering at the end of the games.
P4 and P5 pupils were actively engaged in National Education station games which were designed to
bring about awareness of the multi-racial cultures, festivals and traditional games celebrated in Singapore.
CCPS Children’s Day Celebration brought the house down!
CCPS celebrated Children’s Day on 7 November 2014.
With ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ as the theme for this
year’s celebration, the teachers started off the event
with a fun and entertaining opening item which
included singing and dancing to the different versions
of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star songs. CCPS pupils were
captivated by the melodious voice of Ms Jasmine Tye
and the graceful jazz dance by Ms Joslyn. They were
also entertained by the impromptu ballet as well as
K-Pop dance by the teachers.
Selected pupils from different classes showed off their best glittery outfits on stage as they vied for the
top three winners in the Best Dressed Contest. The outfits ranged from classy princess-like dress to
trendy and modern style. There were also some pupils who dressed themselves up as story
characters such as The Little Red Riding Hood!
The CCPS superstars showcased their talents
during the Children’s Day celebration. They had
worked very hard in rehearsing and preparing for
their flawless performances. Congratulations to
our top four winners: Avlynn Ng (3 Faith), Trisha
Sandeep Nair (2 Faith), Anastacia Chieng (4
Faith) and Eunice Tay (2 Humility).
In addition to the CCPS superstar performances,
this year’s celebration also showcased two
special items - video of Kirsten Geille (2 Joy) presenting a speech and performance of magic tricks by
Aishwarya (5 Faith). Thumbs up and a big thank you to these girls for their contributions!
The concert finally ended with an awesome dance performance put up by our Parent Support Group
(PSG). A minion mascot joined the celebration too! All in all, the celebration was a fun-filled time for all
the pupils, teachers and parents!
Deepavali in CCPS
Our Deepavali celebration and concert was held on
4 November 2014. It was a time when we
remembered the significance of Deepavali i.e. truth
and justice will always prevail.
Decorations of lights and garlands were put up in
the school premises. Also, two mobile boards in the
canteen displayed posters and pictures depicting
the Indian culture and tradition. Pupils learned about
Indian food, costumes and culture through these
pictures. Parent volunteers set up five stations in
the Dance Studio and they facilitated activities on
lamp painting, garland making and henna, just to
name a few.
During the afternoon assembly, pupils enjoyed the
concert where they watched the Indian dance
performances and listened to the singing of
Deepavali songs. The finale was the fashion parade
where the pupils wore their colorful Sarees,
Pavadai, Punjabi suits, Arnakali and Gagra suits.
Hari Raya Puasa Celebration 2014
Hari Raya Puasa is celebrated by the Muslims all over the
world. It signifies the end of a month long fasting season.
This is the most significant celebration for all Muslims.
This year, Canossa Convent Primary School celebrated
Hari Raya on 30 July 2014. The concert started with a
presentation on the significance of celebrating Hari Raya
Puasa, followed by our Parent Support Group members
and their children parading in their Malay traditional
costumes. Our non-Muslims students and teachers learnt
about the different types of costumes worn by the male and
female Muslim during the occasion. After the parade, some
CCPS teachers and students performed songs and dances
to Hari Raya songs.
A short quiz on Hari Raya Puasa was also conducted. Many students were excited to answer the
questions. The concert ended with a video clip that captured Hari Raya wishes from our Principal, Vice
Principal, PSG members, teachers, students as well as ex-staff of CCPS.
The event indeed brought smiles, excitement and laughter to all!
Service Innovation through Design Thinking at P4
Service has been a hallmark of Canossian schools. This focus is embodied in CCPS’s vision of a
community of Compassionate Leaders, Passionate Learners, in the service of God, Country and Family.
In CCPS, we aim to develop Compassionate Leaders who are responsible and proactive in responding to
the needs of others. One of the means to develop our pupils in this aspect is through our 6-year
Distinctive Programme, Service Innovation through Design Thinking. Elements of design thinking process
are progressively introduced to pupils from P1 to P6 through their Values-In-Action (VIA) experiences
which focus on service to others.
This year, the P4 pupils learnt about design thinking and experienced
how it works as a problem solving tool through art lessons.
Subsequently, they were provided the opportunity to apply those
knowledge and skills towards a school improvement project as part
of their Values-In-Action Programme experience. By working
together, pupils learnt to communicate effectively and handle
conflicts (if any), develop empathy towards others and appreciate the
perspectives of others by listening to one another and seeking to
understand the needs of others. Coupled with the experience of
prototyping their ideas, pupils learnt that they have the power to
make a difference. They could take action and take charge to solve
problems around them, which is a key facet in developing
compassionate leaders.

Model-drawing Workshop for Parents
The school has been organizing yearly Model-drawing workshops for parents. The objective of these
workshops is to enable parents to gain a better understanding of:
Algebraic equations are often too abstract for young children. Hence, Model-drawing replaces symbols like
x and y and algebraic equations with blocks and lengths which represent magnitude, as children are visual
learners. They learnt better when they could make relations between quantities represented in a
diagrammatic form. One of the best ways to solve a problem is through visualisation - a picture, figure,
diagram or graph.
Below are some comments from parents who had attended the workshop last year :
I learnt a simple and
easy way to teach my
child to solve problems.
I learnt how to
explain to my child.
I learnt to understand
more about the
methods when dealing
with sums.
I learnt to draw
comparison, part-whole
and unitary models.
Ending the year with much to be thankful for!
The school celebrated Thanksgiving
and Prize Giving Ceremony on 13
November 2014. It was a joyous
occasion where we celebrated the
achievements and accomplishments
of both our teachers and pupils. It
was indeed a year which the school
has much to be thankful for. Tokens
of appreciation were given out to our
parent volunteers as well as
Canossian sisters who had
dedicated their time and effort to
bring out the best in our pupils. We
would like to thank Sr Cecily for
gracing the occasion. It was certainly
a day to be remembered by all!
