Gran éxito y espectacularidad en el
XXII Festival Internacional de Cometas

La capacidad de convocatoria del Festival Internacional de Cometas, celebrado el pasado mes
de noviembre en el Parque Natural de las Dunas
de Corralejo, volvió a confirmarse un año más. Un
numeroso público se rindió a los encantos del gran
espectáculo que brindaron los más de 300 cometistas que participaron en el evento.
Una de las grandes atracciones fue el Jardín del
Viento, una instalación al aire libre a base de envases
de plástico y material reciclado, una obra de la artista
Claudine Macquart en la que colaboraron los niños.
El combate de cometas Rokaku se celebró el domingo
debido al fuerte viento del sábado, que se redujo por la
noche y permitió que se celebrara el vuelo nocturno de
cometas reflectantes. El organizador del evento, Jacinto
Rodríguez, señaló que “en Japón, la cometa Rokaku,
que es el Mercedes de las cometas, llegan a medir
cuatro metros de altura y tienen que ser manipuladas
por hasta treinta personas, ya que las cuerdas pueden
tener hasta 10 centímetros de diámetro”.
La ganadora del combate de cometas Rokaku fue
Carolyn Swift (de York, Reino Unido), que ganó una
semana en el hotel Corralejo Beach para dos personas; el segundo puesto fue para Aránzazu Rodríguez,
de Gran Canaria; seguida de Jacinto Rodríguez, organizador del evento, de Gran Canaria; y Bob Cruikshanks (de Sommerset, Reino Unido). Los tres últimos
recibieron un trofeo de cerámica esmaltada y piedra
volcánica elaborado por Juan Antonio y Francisco
Sánchez Rupérez, de Cerámica Nopal de La Oliva).

Kite Festival
Once again this year, the International Kite Festival
Großer Erfolg und eine Aufsehen erregende
Vorführung beim XXII. Internationalen Festival der
Drachen
Auch dieses Jahr wurde das Festival der Drachen
veranstaltet, dass im November im Naturpark Parque
Natural de las Dunas in Corralejo stattfand. Zahlreiche Zuschauer waren von der Aufführung begeistert,
an der mehr als 300 aktive Teilnehmer ihre Drachen
fliegen ließen.
Eine der großen Attraktionen war der Windgarten,
eine Einrichtung im Freien, die aus Plastikverpackungen und wieder verwertbarem Material hergestellt
wurde. Es ist ein Werk des Künstlers Claudine Macquart, an dem auch Kinder mitgewirkt haben.
Der Kampf der Rokaku-Drachen fand am Donnerstag statt, da es am Samstag zu windig war. Am
Samstagabend ging der Wind zurück, so dass der
nächtliche Flug der leuchtenden Drachen stattfinden
konnte. Der Veranstalter von diesem Event, Jacinto
Rodríguez, betonte: „In Japan sind die RokakuDrachen, die die Stars der Drachen sind, bis zu vier
Metern hoch und müssen von bis zu dreißig Personen
gehandhabt werden, da der Durchmesser der Seile
bis zu 10 Zentimeter betragen kann.” Die Gewinnerin
des Kampfes der Drachen war Carolyn Swift (aus
York, Vereinigtes Königreich), die eine Woche für
zwei Personen im Corralejo Beach gewann. Auf den
zweiten Platz kam Aránzazu Rodríguez aus Gran Canaria, ihm folgten Jacinto Rodríguez, der Veranstalter
des Events, aus Gran Canaria und Bob Cruikshanks
(aus Sommerset, Vereinigtes Königreich). Die drei
letzten erhielten emaillierte Trophäen aus Keramik
und Vulkanstein, die von Juan Antonio und Francisco
Sánchez Rupérez, von „Cerámica Nopal“ (La Oliva)
hergestellt worden waren.

One of the great attractions was the Wind Garden,
an outdoors facility based on recycled bottles and

The Rokaku kite championship was celebrated on
Sunday as Saturday daytime was too windy but the
wind that died down during the evening permitted
for the nocturnal fluorescent kite fling to take place.
Jacinto Rodríguez, the event’s organiser, comments
that “in Japan Rokaku kites are the Mercedes of kites,
they can measure up to four meters in height and have
to be handled by up to thirty people as the ropes can
be up to 10 centimetres in diameter”.
The Rokaku kite championship winner was Carolyn
Swift (from York, in Great Britain) who won a week in
the Corralejo Beach hotel for two people; the second
prize went to Aránzu Rodríguez from Gran Canaria,
followed by Jacinto Rodríguez, the event’s organiser,
from Gran Canaria; and Bob Cruikshanks (from Sommerset in Great Britain). The last three received an
enamelled ceramic and volcanic rock trophy created
by Juan Antonio and Francisco Sánchez Rupérez from
Cerámica Nopal (La Oliva).

El nuevo Centro de Salud atenderá a unos
23.000 usuarios

El nuevo Centro de Salud, recientemente inaugurado y ubicado en el barrio de La Charca, atenderá
a una población de 23.000 usuarios, de los cuales
aproximadamente 19.000 son adultos y 4.000 son
niños.
El nuevo centro es un edificio de 4.779 metros
cuadrados, está dotado de 26 consultas de medicina
general y enfermería, 6 de pediatría, 2 de odontología, 1 de matrona y una sala de preparación al parto.
Acoge además las dependencias de la Dirección de
Área de Salud, el Laboratorio de Salud Pública y un
Centro Especializado de Atención a las Urgencias.
En la planta baja del edificio se sitúan las dependencias destinadas al Área de Urgencias, dotado de
un área de admisión de urgencias, salas de esperas
para pacientes y de familiares, una sala de reanimación cardiopulmonar, consultas médicas, salas
de curas, salas de observación de adultos y niños y
área de descanso del personal. Asimismo, dispone
de un Área de Atención Pediátrica, integrada por 6
consultas de Pediatría y de Enfermería Pediátrica,
con aseos y salas de espera; un Área de Atención a
la Mujer, con una consulta de matrona y una sala de
preparación al parto; un Área de Atención Bucodental
con dos consultas; una sala de reuniones y un Área
de Personal, dotada de vestuarios y aseos.
En este mismo nivel se sitúan, asimismo, la sala
de toma de muestras clínicas, área de admisión
de pacientes y administración del centro, archivos,
almacenes y salón de actos.
En la planta alta se ubica un área de atención de
adultos con 26 consultas de medicina de familia y
enfermería (13 de medicina general y 13 de enfermería), 2 polivalentes, dirección y subdirección de
la Zona Básica, así como aseos y salsas de espera.
También se encuentra la Unidad Docente de medicina
familiar y comunitaria, sala de juntas-biblioteca y el
Trabajador Social.

Das neue Gesundheitszentrum, das vor kurzem
eröffnet wurde und im Stadtteil La Charca liegt, ist
für 23.000 Nutzer zuständig, von denen ungefähr
19.000 Erwachsene sind und 4.000 Kinder.
Das neue Zentrum befindet sich in einem 4.779m²
großen Gebäude und verfügt über 26 Praxen für
Allgemeinmedizin,2 Unfallstationen, 2 Praxen für
Pädiatrie, 2 für Zahnheilkunde, einen Bereich für die
Hebammen und einen Saal für die Vorbereitung auf
die Geburt. Außerdem sind dort die Dependancen der
Generalverwaltung für Gesundheit, das Laboratorium
für öffentliche Gesundheit und ein spezialisiertes
Zentrum für Notfälle untergebracht.
Im Erdgeschoss des Gebäudes sind die Dependancen des Notdienstes, ein Bereich für die Aufnahme
von Notfällen, Wartesäle für Patienten und deren
Verwandte, ein Saal für Wiederbelebung, Arztpraxen,
Behandlungszimmer, Beobachtungssäle für Erwachsene und Kinder und ein Bereich für das Personal. Es
gibt außerdem einen Bereich für Pädiatrie, der aus
sechs Kinderheilkundepraxen und einer Unfallstation
für Kinder besteht. Es gibt Toiletten, ein Wartezimmer,
einen Bereich für Frauen, mit einer Hebammenberatung und einem Saal für die Vorbereitung auf die
Geburt, einen Bereich für Mund und Zähne mit zwei
Praxen, einen Sitzungssaal und einen Bereich für
das Personal, der mit Umkleideräumen und Toiletten
ausgestattet ist.
Auf der gleichen Ebene ist der Bereich für die
Entnahme von klinischen Proben, der Bereich für
die Aufnahme von Patienten und die Verwaltung des
Zentrums. Dazu kommen Archive, Lagerräume und
ein Saal für gesellschaftliche Veranstaltungen.
Im Obergeschoss ist der Bereich für Erwachsene,
mit 26 Praxen für Familienmedizin und Krankenpflege
(13 für Allgemeinmedizin und 13 für Krankenpflege).
Dazu kommen 2 Mehrzweckräume, der Bereich für
die Leitung und die stellvertretende Leitung, Toiletten
und Wartezimmer. Außerdem sind dort die Lehrabteilung für Familien- und Gemeinschaftsmedizin,
der Sitzungssaal mit Bibliothek und das Zentrum für
Sozialarbeit untergebracht.

The new Health Centre, recently inaugurated and
situated in the neighbourhood of El Charco, will attend
to 23.000 people of which approximately 19.000
adults and 4.000 children.
The new centre is a 4.779 square meter building
with 26 consultation rooms for general medicine and
nursing, 6 for paediatrics, 2 for dentistry, 1 for the
midwife and one room for preparation for childbirth.
It also contains offices for the Health Department
Management, the Public Health Laboratory and a
Specialised Centre for Emergency Treatments.
The building’s ground floor contains the area of
Emergencies with an area for admissions, waiting
room for patients and families, a cardiopulmonary
resuscitation room, medical consultation rooms,
treatments rooms, observation rooms for adults and
children and a staff room. Furthermore, it has an area
for Paediatrics that contains 6 consultation rooms
and sickbays with toilets and waiting room; an area
of Attention to Women, with the midwife’s consultation room and a room of preparation for childbirth;
an area of Dentistry with two consultation rooms; a
meeting room and a staff room with changing rooms
and toilets.
On this same floor there is also a room for clinical
samples gathering, patients’ admission and the
centre’s administration, archives, store rooms and
meeting room.
The top floor houses the area of attention to adults
with 26 general medicine consultation rooms and
nursing (13 for general medicine and 13 for nursing),
2 multi-purpose rooms, direction and sub-direction of
the Basic Area as well as toilets and waiting rooms.
This is also where the Family and Communal Medicine
Teaching Unit is situated, meeting room/library and
Social Worker’s room.

resultaron como respuestas las siguientes:
• Los aspectos medioambientales de la Isla (29%):
Playas, Clima.
• La tranquilidad, relax, descanso y seguridad
asociado al destino (28%).
• Relación calidad-precio (13,5%).
• Posibilidad de vacaciones familiares (12%).
VALORACIÓN DEL DESTINO
El IST ofrece a los turistas encuestados la posibilidad de pronunciarse acerca de un total de 27
cualidades turísticas, divididas en cuatro categorías
fundamentales. Este verano la valoración de los
turistas fue la siguiente:
• Alojamiento: 71,15.
• Oferta Comercial y complementaria: 62,55.
• Servicio Público e Infraestructuras: 64,84.
• Entorno Medioambiental: 74,99.
• Una vez más, las cualidades turísticas mejor
valoradas se refirieron al entorno medioambiental,
siendo las primeras el estado de las playas (84,05), la
limpieza de las playas (81,47) o la calidad del medio
ambiente (73,69).
Destacan también en el apartado del alojamiento,
la comodidad y el confort del alojamiento (73,13) y la
calidad de las instalaciones (72,66). En el extremo
opuesto, las valoraciones más bajas fueron la oferta
cultural (49.20), la oferta comercial (58,22) y la oferta
de ocio y tiempo libre (58,26).
El informe del índice de Satisfacción del Turista
(IST) correspondiente al pasado verano refleja una
tendencia creciente en el índice de recomendación
de Fuerteventura como destino vacacional. Un 97,4%
de los visitantes recomendaría la Isla para pasar las
vacaciones, lo que significa una mejora de 2 y 5 puntos respectivamente con respecto a los resultados de
los dos veranos anteriores.
El Patronato de Turismo de Fuerteventura, realiza
este estudio dos veces al año, coincidiendo con las
dos temporadas turísticas de verano e invierno. El objetivo del IST es elaborar una herramienta de trabajo
que permita a instituciones, colectivos y empresas
turísticas conocer las opiniones y valoraciones que
tienen los turistas sobre el destino majorero.
Los resultados del Índice de Satisfacción del Turista
marcan siempre un momento importante del año,
porque permite conocer cuáles son los aspectos que
de deben mejorar para ofrecer un mejor servicio a
los clientes, así como también detectar qué medidas
han sido más efectivas entre las adoptadas para
satisfacer las demandas de los turistas.
En las últimas ediciones del estudio se ha tratado
de incorporar las propuestas del sector privado,
agregando a las encuestas sus sugerencias y recomendaciones. En las encuestas de este verano se
incluyó la pregunta de por qué los turistas eligen
Fuerteventura para pasar sus vacaciones, de lo que

The Tourist Satisfaction Survey (IST) corresponding to last summer season shows an increasing
tendency concerning the rate of recommendation
of Fuerteventura as a holiday destination. 97,4% of
visitors would recommend the island as a holiday
destination, which represents an increase of 2 and
5 points respectively when compared to the results
of the previous two summers.
Fuerteventura’s Tourism Department carries out
this study twice a year during the two tourism seasons
of summer and winter. The objective is to elaborate a
working tool that will allow institutions, communities
and businesses involved in tourism to find out about
the opinions and assessments of tourists regarding
the Majorero destination.
The results of the Tourist Satisfaction Survey are
a very important time of the year, because it shows
which aspects must be improved on in order to offer
better services to clients as well as which measures
are efficient amongst those adopted in order to satisfy
tourists demands.
The study’s last editions also included the private
sector’s proposals, adding to surveys their suggestions and recommendations. This summer’s suggestions included the question of why tourists choose
Fuerteventura as a holiday destination, which resulted
in the following answers:
• Natural Environment aspects of the Island (29%):
beaches, climate.
• Tranquillity, relaxation, rest and safety associated
with the destination (28%).
• Good value for money (13,5%).
• Family holiday destination (12%).
Assessment of the destination
The IST gives tourist the tourists surveyed the pos-
sibility to give their opinion on 27 tourism aspects
divided in four main categories. This summer the
tourists’ evaluation was as follows:
• Accommodation: 71,15.
• Commercial and complementary offer: 62,55.
• Public Services and Infrastructure: 64,84.
• Natural Environment: 74,99.
• Once again, tourist aspects that got the best ratings were related to the environment with in first place beaches (84,05), cleanliness of beaches (81,47)
and the quality of the natural environment (73,69)
Other aspects that also stood out were the accommodation, the practicality and comfort of the accommodation (73,13) and the quality of the facilities
(72,66). On the opposite, the lowest assessments
were the cultural offer (49,20), the commercial offer
(58,22) and the leisure activities offer (58,26).
97% der Touristen empfehlen Fuerteventura als Urlaubsort
Aus dem Bericht über die Zufriedenheit der Touristen (IST) des vergangenen Sommers geht hervor, dass
immer mehr Touristen Fuerteventura als Urlaubsort
empfehlen. Ungefähr 97,4% der Besucher würde die
Insel empfehlen, um dort Ferien zu machen. Dies ist
eine Verbesserung von 2 und 5 Punkten im Vergleich
zu den Ergebnissen der zwei vorherigen Sommer.
Das Patronat für Tourismus von Fuerteventura führt
diese Untersuchung zweimal im Jahr durch, und zwar
in der Sommer- und in der Wintersaison. Mit dem IST
wird beabsichtigt ein Werkzeug zu schaffen, mit dem
Institutionen, Kollektive und Tourismusunternehmen
die Meinungen und Bewertungen der Touristen kennenlernen können.
Die Ergebnisse des Zufriedenheitsindexes der
Touristen sind jedes Jahr sehr wichtig, denn durch sie
werden die Aspekte bekannt, die verbessert werden
müssen, um den Kunden bessere Leistungen zu
gewährleisten und um festzustellen, welche Maßnahmen am effizientesten waren, um die Touristen
zufrieden zu stellen.
In den Untersuchungen der vergangenen Jahre
wurde versucht, Angebote aus der Privatwirtschaft
mit einzubeziehen und zu den Umfragen Vorschläge
und Empfehlungen hinzuzufügen. Diesen Sommer
kam die Frage dazu, warum die Touristen Fuerteventura als Urlaubsort gewählt haben. Es gab folgende
Antworten:
• Die Landschaft der Insel (29%): Strände, Klima.
• Die Ruhe, Entspannung, Erholung und Sicherheit,
die mit der Insel verbunden werden (28%).
• Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis (13,5%).
• Möglichkeiten für Familienurlaub (12%).
Bewertung des Urlaubsortes
Das IST gibt den befragten Touristen die Möglichkeit, sich zu insgesamt 27 touristischen Qualitäten
zu äußern, die in vier Hauptkategorien unterteilt
sind. Diesen Sommer haben die Touristen die Insel
folgendermaßen bewertet:
• Unterkunft: 71,15.
• Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und zusätzliche Angebote:
62,55.
• Öffentliche Leistungen und Infrastrukturen:
64,84.
• Umwelt: 74,99.
• Auch dieses Mal waren die Qualitäten, die innerhalb des Umweltbereiches am besten bewertet
wurden, der Zustand der Strände (84,05), die Sauberkeit der Strände (81,47) und die Sauberkeit der
Umwelt (73,69).
Im Bereich der Unterkünfte stechen die Bequemlichkeit und der Komfort der Unterkunft (73,13) und
die Qualität der Installationen (72,66) hervor. Die
schlechtesten Bewertungen dagegen bekamen das
kulturelle Angebot (49.20), das kommerzielle Angebot
(58,22) und das Freizeitangebot (58,26).

Mario Cabrera – Presidente del Cabildo
“Es posible que nos convirtamos en la
primera isla con una planta termo-solar”
Se acaba el temido y problemático 2009; al comenzarlo entrevistamos al presidente del cabildo, Mario
Cabrera, para que nos diera su visión de lo que sería
este año que ¡por fin! termina. Hoy queremos charlar
con él de nuevo y como portavoz de los ciudadanos de
Fuerteventura preguntarle cuál ha sido el balance de
este año y cómo debemos enfrentar el próximo 2010.
¿Cómo ve el 2010, presidente?
Se presenta un nuevo año lleno de retos, pero
con mejores auspicios que el que está acabando.
Este año nos ha obligado a “ponernos las pilas” y a
comenzar a cambiar la mentalidad de cómo llevar
la administración como gobierno insular. Al vivir la
desaceleración de forma tan intensa, hemos tenido
que cambiar parámetros y esto no se podía hacer
en solitario, ha tenido que hacerse especialmente
de la mano del gobierno de Canarias y lógicamente
apretándose el cinturón.
Los habitantes de Fuerteventura están un poco
pesimistas, tienen miedo al futuro y el miedo es
limitante y no deja crecer ni fluir la economía.
¿Qué les diría?
Todos hemos visto crecer el paro, pero también
hemos visto proyectos nuevos, tanto por parte del
Estado como del propio gobierno de Canarias que
nos permite dar mayor celeridad a muchos de nuestros planes de acción. Se ha logrado conjuntamente
sembrar los cimientos para poner en marcha un plan
de empleo ambicioso que empezará a materializarse
a partir de enero 2010. Esto es gracias al I.T.E., antiguo impuesto general de tráfico de empresas que
llevamos peleando años, para colocar ese dinero
en obras y otras actuaciones, pero hemos decidido
que se va ha emplear en donde más falta hace en
estos momentos, que es en la creación de puestos
de trabajo en las dos islas más afectadas: Lanzarote
y Fuerteventura.
También hemos logrado con el Estado y el Gobierno de Canarias mantener todos los planes de obras
previstos. Tanto los planes sectoriales, como acelerar
las inversiones del Estado y adelantar algunas donaciones del propio Gobierno de Canarias.
Esto nos permitirá que en el próximo año estén
tres tramos del eje Norte-Sur ejecutándose en Fuerteventura. Uno de ellos se adjudicará en estos días y
el otro estará licitado ya para el primer trimestre del
2010, que junto con el que ya se esta realizando en
Corralejo serán los tres tramos. Estamos hablando
de inversiones de 70, 40 y 60 millones cada uno.
Y desde Pozo Negro a Gran Tarajal ¿cuándo
será?
Eso corresponde al Cabildo y esperamos que en
esta semana se adjudicará, es un presupuesto de
3 millones de euros. Además se hará una rotonda
en Tequital.
Como ven tenemos un volumen de obras importante y también de la mano del estado y del Gobierno
de Canarias hemos conseguido una inversión de
150 millones de euros para los próximos tres años
destinados a la creación de tres Parques Tecnológicos
de Canarias, uno en Tenerife, otro en Las Palmas y
el de Fuerteventura que se realizará en el antiguo
aeropuerto de Los Estancos. Para el 2009 ya tenemos un presupuesto de 25 millones de euros para
comenzar. Ya esta encargado a Gestur el proyecto
de urbanización y posiblemente de los dos edificios
principales. La idea principal es que el desarrollo de

la isla no este en un futuro tan ligado a la construcción, debe ir de la mano del turismo y también de las
nuevas tecnologías.
¿Se está potenciando el turismo?
Estamos haciendo una gran promoción turística en
muchos nuevos lugares de Europa y pensamos cerrar
un acuerdo, antes de acabar el año, con Ryanair; esto
nos aportará 150.000 turistas más al año de destinos que en estos momentos no tenían conexión con
nosotros. Este tipo de líneas aéreas traen un turismo
que se mueve y generan más economía.
Si el Gobierno de Canarias consigue que las tasas
aeroportuarias se mantengan y también que se prime
a las compañías que llevan históricamente operando
aquí, por aumentar el número de turistas y seguimos
promocionándonos en lugares nuevos, seguiremos
creciendo turísticamente ya que Canarias sigue
siendo un destino muy atractivo.
Además somos la única isla donde Travelplan ha
querido traer a 200 agentes de viaje para apostar por
un turismo responsable. Turistas que vienen buscando acciones medioambientales y los tour-operadores
están vislumbrando otro tipo de turismo muy interesante, que hace senderismo, busca naturaleza, y
proyectos de recuperación de especies etc. También
el haber sido nombrada este año la isla, reserva de
la biosfera, nos acerca a este tipo de turista que no
se queda quieto en el hotel.
¿Qué otras novedades nos esperan?
Al abrir el abanico a través del parque tecnológico
y las energías alternativas, es posible que nos convirtamos en la primera isla que tenga una planta
termo-solar gracias al convenio que se ha firmado
entre el cabildo y el Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias.
Puede que seamos los primeros en empezar a
investigar esta energía que no es lo mismo que la
energía solar de placas que ya conocemos.
Si conseguimos que el Gobierno de Canarias desbloquee el concurso de los 30 megavatios que ya están adjudicados en Fuerteventura, estamos hablando
de inversiones económicas muy importantes, pero
sobre todo de inversiones que comienzan a cambiar
a medio y largo plazo el desarrollo de Fuerteventura.
Y a corto plazo, para paliar la angustia de tantas
familias que no encuentran trabajo, ¿qué nos
puede contar?
Ya se hicieron acciones inmediatas en el ámbito
social, cerrando convenios con los seis ayuntamientos para poder dar una respuesta inmediata a las
familias que necesitan una ayuda urgente para salir
adelante, sea el pago de la hipoteca, que sus hijos
no dejen los estudios etc., y esto se va a mantener
en el 2010 incluso ampliando presupuestos.
También se puede considerar una acción inmediata los convenios que se firmaron este año con las
compañías aéreas, que nos han permitido traer unas
100.000 visitantes más a la isla y cada turista que
viene se podría decir que es un puesto de trabajo
que se crea.
Para finalizar, presidebnte ¿es optimista de cara
al futuro?
Yo creo que tenemos muchas posibilidades en
Fuerteventura de seguir adelante y crecer correctamente, aunque es imposible evitar el duro paso que
estamos viviendo.

“It is possible that we will become the first
island with a thermo-solar plant”
The dreaded and problematic year 2009 reaches its
end; at its beginning we had interviewed the Cabildo’s
President so that he could give us his vision of what
this year would be like and finally it’s almost over.
Today we wanted to speak with him again and as
spokesman for Fuerteventura’s habitant we wanted
to ask him about this year’s outcome and how we
should face 2010.
Mr. President, how do you see the year 2010?
We are faced with another year full of challenges, but with better prospects than the year that is
reaching its end. This year has made us get our act
together and start to change mentalities on how to
manage the administration as an island government.
Going through such an intense down phase, we have
had to change parameters and this could not be done
individually, it had to come mainly from the Canarian
Government and of course it meant tightening our
belt.
Fuerteventura’s habitants are a little pessimistic,
they are scared of the future and fear puts limits,
it doesn’t let the economy grow or flow. What
would you tell them?
We have all seen unemployment rates rise, but we
have also witnessed new projects, both from the State
and from the Canarian Government that allow us to
speed up many of our action plans. Together we have
managed to get the bases required to put in place
an ambitious employment plan that will start materialising from January 2010 onwards. This is thanks
to the I.T.E., previously known as the general trade
tax on businesses on which we have been arguing
for years in order to reinvest this money in projects
and other actions, but we decided that we would use
it where there are shortfalls at present, which is the
creation of employment on the two islands affected
the most: Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
We have also managed with the State and the Canarian Government to maintain all the projects that
were planned. This applies to sector’s plans as well
as accelerating the State’s investments and means
paying upfront donations from the Canarian Government. This will allow us to work on three stretches of
the North-South main road in Fuerteventura. One of
them will be allocated very soon and the other will be
allocated for the first 2010 trimester, another one is
already underway in Corralejo. Those three phases represent investments of 70, 40 and 60 millions each.
And between Pozo Negro and Gran Tarajal, when
is that one planned for?
This one is the responsibility of the Cabildo and
we hope that it is will allocated right about now; it
represents a 3 million euro budget. Furthermore a
roundabout in Tequital will also be created.
As you see there is a large amount of important
projects and we have also managed to get a 150
million Euro investment from the Canarian Government for the next three years in order to create three
Technological Parks in the Canaries, one in Tenerife,
another in Las Palmas and one in Fuerteventura that
will be built on the old airport of Los Estancos. For
2009 we already have a budget of 25 million Euros
to start. Gestur has already been contracted for the
urban project and possibly for both main buildings.
The main idea is to ensure that the future of the island won’t be so tightly bound to the building trade, it
must come from tourism also and new technologies.
Is tourism being promoted?
We are carrying out a large tourism promotional
campaign in many new sites in Europe and we are
aiming to reach an agreement with Ryanair before
the end of the year; this will bring us an additional

150.000 tourists per year from destinations that did
not have connections with the island until now. This
type of airline brings a kind of tourism that moves and
generates more benefits for the economy.
If the Canarian Government manages to maintain
the airport taxes and gives priority to companies that
have always operated here by increasing the number of
tourists, we will continue increasing in the tourism sector as the Canaries are still an attractive destination.
Furthermore we are the only island to have a Travel
Plan that brought in 200 travel agents in order to wager on a responsible kind of tourism. Tourists come
looking for environmental actions and tour operators
are having a glimpse of another type of interesting
tourism that includes hiking, looking for Nature and
projects of preservation of species, etc. Furthermore
as the island was named biosphere reserve this year,
it brings us a type of tourists that don’t want to just
sit in their hotel resort.
What other news are waiting for us?
As we diversify ourselves with the technological
park and alternative energies, it is possible that we
will become the first island to have a Thermo-solar
plant thanks to an agreement signed between the
Cabildo and the Canarian Technological Institute.
We may become the first to start looking into this
energy that is not the same as solar energy on panels
that we are already aware of.
If we manage to get the Canarian Government to
unblock the 30 megawatts that are already allocated
to Fuerteventura, we are talking about very significant
economical investments, but mainly of investments
that will start to change Fuerteventura’s development
on medium and long term.
And what can you tell us about the short term, in
order to alleviate the anguish of so many families
that cannot find work?
There have already been some immediate actions
taken regarding social matters, by getting agreements
with all six Ayuntamientos in order to bring immediate
response to families who need urgent help to get sorted
out, whether it is to pay their mortgage, to ensure that
their children continue studying, etc., and this will continue in 2010 when we will even increase those budgets.
Another immediate action is the signature of agreements with airlines that allowed us to bring around
100.000 extra visitors to the island and each and
every extra tourist that comes on the island is a little
like another job that is created.
Finally, are you optimist when you look to the
future Mr. President?
I believe that there are many possibilities for Fuerteventura to sort itself out and grow normally, although
it is impossible to avoid the difficult times that we are
going through.

Das gefürchtete und problematische Jahr 2009
geht zu Ende. Zum Anfang des Jahres interviewten
wir den Präsidenten des Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, um
uns von ihm erzählen zu lassen, wie das Jahr seiner
Meinung sein würde. Heute möchten wir uns wieder
mit ihm unterhalten und ihn als Vertreter der Bürger
von Fuerteventura nach der Bilanz des Jahres zu fragen und wie wir uns dem Jahr 2010 stellen müssen.
Wie sehe Sie das Jahr 2010 Herr Präsident?
Wir stehen vor einem Jahr voller Herausforderungen, aber es sieht so aus, als ob es besser wird als
das, welches gerade endet. Dieses Jahr waren wir alle
gezwungen uns sehr anzustrengen, und wir mussten
unsere Vorstellungen darüber ändern, wie man die
Verwaltung einer Inselregierung leitet. Da wir eine so
starke Verlangsamung erlebten, mussten wir unsere
Maßstäbe ändern. Das konnten wir nicht alleine tun.
Wir mussten es zusammen mit der Regierung der
Kanaren tun, und natürlich mussten wir sparen, wo
wir konnten.
Die Bürger von Fuerteventura sind etwas pessimistisch. Die Angst vor der Zukunft führt dazu,
dass sich die Wirtschaft nicht richtig entwickeln
kann. Was würden Sie den Menschen sagen?
Wir alle haben gesehen, wie die Arbeitslosigkeit
gestiegen ist, aber wir haben auch neue Projekte
gesehen, die sowohl vom Staat als auch von de Regierung der Kanaren ins leben gerufen wurden und
durch die wir unsere Pläne schneller verwirklichen
können. Es wurden die Grundlagen für einen Beschäftigungsplan geschaffen, der ab Januar 2010
in Gang gesetzt wird. Dies geschieht dank de I.T.E.,
einer alten Steuer für Unternehmen. Wir setzen uns
seit Jahren dafür ein, dieses Geld für Bauarbeiten
und andere Eingriffe zu verwenden. Aber dann haben wir beschlossen, es dafür zu verwenden, wo es
zurzeit am nötigsten gebraucht wird, und zwar für
die Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen auf den Inseln, die
am stärksten von der Krise betroffen sind: Lanzarote
und Fuerteventura.
Wir haben es auch zusammen mit dem Staat und
der Regierung der Kanaren geschafft, alle vorgesehenen Pläne für Bauarbeiten beizubehalten. Auch die
Pläne der Branchen, außerdem sollen die staatlichen
Subventionen beschleunigt und einige Unterstützungen der Regierung der Kanaren vorgestreckt werden.

So können wir im nächsten Jahr auf Fuerteventura
drei Strecken der Achse Nord-Süd verwirklichen. Eine
davon wird in diesen Tagen vergeben und die andere im ersten Quartal 2010. Wenn man die Strecke
mitzählt, die zurzeit in Corralejo gebaut wird, werden
es insgesamt drei sein. Wir sprechen über Investitionen von 70, 40 und 60 Millionen Euro.
Und wann werden die Pläne von Pozo Negro bis
Gran Tarajal verwirklicht?
Dafür ist der Cabildo zuständig. Wir rechen damit,
dass diese Woche ein Budget von 3 Millionen Euro
dafür vergeben wird. Außerdem wird ein Rondell in
Tequital gebaut.
Wie Sie sehen, gibt es mehrere wichtige Bauarbeiten, und wir haben auch für die nächsten drei Jahre
eine Subvention der Regierung der Kanaren über
150 Millionen Euro erhalten, die für die Schaffung
von drei Technologieparks auf den Kanaren bestimmt
sind, einer auf Teneriffa, einer in Las Palmas und der
von Fuerteventura, der am ehemaligen Flughafen
von Los Estancos gebaut wird. Für das Jahr 2009
haben wir schon ein Budget über 25 Millionen Euro.
Gestur wird zurzeit mit dem Urbanisierungsprojekt
beauftragt und möglicherweise auch mit den beiden
wichtigsten Gebäude. Es geht hauptsächlich darum,
dass die Entwicklung der Insel in der Zukunft nicht so
sehr an das Bauwesen gebunden sein soll, sondern
an den Tourismus und an die neuen Technologien.
Wird der Tourismus gestärkt?
Wir machen in vielen Teilen Europas Werbung für
den Tourismus, und wir haben vor, Ende des Jahres
ein Abkommen mit Ryanair abzuschließen, wodurch
wir 150.000 Touristen mehr im Jahr bekommen werden. Diese Art von Fluggesellschaften bringt Touristen, die herumfahren und die Wirtschaft ankurbeln.
Die Regierung der Kanaren muss es schafften, die
Flughafengebühren beizubehalten. Außerdem werden
wir an mehr Orten Werbung machen. Der Tourismus
wird weiterhin wachsen, denn die Kanaren sind weiterhin ein sehr beliebtes Reiseziel.
Außerdem sind wir die einzige Insel, auf die Travelplan 200 Tourismusagenten bringen wollte, um
auf einen verantwortungsbewussten Tourismus zu
setzen. Hier geht es um Touristen, die uns besuchen, weil sie sich für Umweltschutz interessieren.
Die Reiseveranstalter bringen andere Touristen, die
wandern, ihre Zeit in der Natur verbringen und an
Projekten wie der Wiedereinführung von einheimischen Arten interessiert sind. Auch die Tatsache, dass
die Insel dieses Jahr zum Biosphärereservat erklärt
wurde, bringt uns diese Touristen, die nicht einfach
passiv im Hotel bleiben wollen.
Welche anderen Neuheiten warten auf uns?
Wenn wir das Spektrum durch den Technologie Park
und die alternativen Energien erweitern, können wir
dank eines Abkommens zwischen dem Cabildo und
dem kanarischen Institut für Technologie zur ersten
Insel mit einer Thermo-Solar-Anlage werden.
Es kann sein, dass wir als erste diese Energie
erforschen werden, die anders ist als die Sonnenenergie mit Platten, die wir schon kennen.
Wenn wir erreichen, dass die Regierung der Kanaren diesen Wettbewerb über 30 Megawatt freigibt,
den sie schon Fuerteventura zuweisen. Wir sprechen
über sehr wichtige ökonomische Investitionen, aber
vor allem über Investitionen, die auf mittlere oder lange Sicht die Entwicklung von Fuerteventura verändert.
Was können Sie uns erzählen, um die vielen
Familien zu beruhigen, die Angst vor der Arbeitslosigkeit haben?
Es sind schon Aktionen im sozialen Bereich durchgeführt worden. Es wurden Abkommen mit sechs
Gemeinden abgeschlossen, um die Familien, die
dringend Hilfe brauchen, sofort zu unterstützen. Dies
betrifft sowohl die Zahlungen von Hypotheken als
auch die Ausbildung ihrer Kinder usw. Diese Hilfen
werden 2010 nicht nur beibehalten, sondern sogar
gestärkt.
Auch die Abkommen, die wir dieses Jahr mit den
Fluggesellschaften abgeschlossen haben, können als
dringende Maßnahme betrachtet werden. Dadurch
können wir 100.000 Besucher mehr im Jahr auf die
Insel bringen, und jeder Tourist, der uns besucht,
kann sagen, dass er einen Arbeitsplatz schafft.
Herr Präsident, zum Schluss möchten wir wissen, ob Sie der Zukunft mit Optimismus ins Auge
sehen?
Ich glaube, dass wir auf Fuerteventura viele Möglichkeiten haben, um uns zu entwickeln, aber es bleibt
uns nichts anderes übrig, als weiter zu machen und
zu wachsen. Aber leider müssen wir diese schwere
Zeit durchmachen.

¿Cuál es la realmente la actividad que se desarrolla en su local?
Es muy sencilla; valoramos el oro que nos traen,
después de una catalogación de su pureza, que
se realiza delante del cliente y, en función de que
sea oro de 9 a 24 quilates, es cuando se realiza el
pago, en efectivo y en mismo momento.
¿Cualquier persona puede traer sus joyas?
Sí, pero para evitar que pueda haber situaciones
anómalas estas son fotografiadas junto con el D.N.I
del cliente que las aporta, junto con su firma de
conformidad.
Ustedes se anuncian como profesionales de
empeño y compra de oro, ¿qué significa ese
concepto?
Para poder empeñar o comprar oro con total legalidad son necesarios muchos requisitos: normativas

de seguridad en el local, permisos especiales, control con la policía,
registro de cada entrada a disposición de cualquier investigación
y seguros que permitan al cliente sentirse protegido en cualquier
caso para no perder el valor de sus joyas. Esto es lo que se necesita
para ser profesionales en este campo.
Hay gente que se dedica a comprar oro, puerta a puerta o bien
que no tienen los requisitos adecuados para poder hacerlo. Esto es
ilegal y por lo tanto representa un riesgo tanto para el comprador
como para el vendedor.
¿Y qué otras diferencias presenta su compañía?
Tanto en el empeño como en la venta, pagamos el gramo al mejor
precio del mercado, hoy en día hasta 16 €. Y los gastos, por custodia y seguro en el empeño de oro, que ofrecemos son los mejores.
¿Se valora el diseño, la marca o las gemas que puedan ir engarzadas junto con el oro?
No, sólo se tasa el oro, con lo que las piedras preciosas que contenga, si lo desea el cliente, le son entregadas al momento. El oro
adquirido finalmente se funde, con lo que nos resulta indiferente
que venga en buen estado o que estén las piezas dañadas o rotas.
Se va a valorar en función de los gramos de oro y de su pureza.
Es una buena solución en tiempos de crisis y más aún con la
poca flexibilidad que presentan los bancos...
Sí, sobre todo empeñar el oro, evita que se producta una separación definitiva de joyas a las que a veces las personas están
unidas por lazos sentimentales. Una vez pasado el mal momento o
la época difícil siempre están las joyas a su disposición.
¿Y cómo pueden saber si las joyas son robadas, por ejemplo?
Nosotros no podemos saberlo, pero por eso se toman todos los
datos del vendedor y se tienen que guardar durante un tiempo,
hasta que la policía nos autoriza a seguir adelante con el proceso
de fundición. Si se descubre que son robadas nos las incautan y
perdemos lo que hemos invertido en ellas. Ese es uno de nuestros
riesgos como negocio.
¿En qué otros lugares tienen abiertos locales con esta actividad?
En todas Canarias y en varias ciudades europeas.
Aunque es una magnifica solución en estos momentos imaginamos que algunas personas se sentirán incomodas al entrar a

the past 18 years, he confesses to have fallen in
love with the island of Fuerteventura. He is currently
the manager of a multinational chain whose main
activity is pawnshops and gold purchase and recently opened a new venue in the Ntra. Sra. del
Carmen street, 13th, in Morro Jable.
From this new venue in Fuerteventura he spoke
with us so that our readers could find out more
about how pawnshops work.
Which is the real activity that is developed in
your premises?
It is very simple; we value gold that is brought to
us, after identifying its purity, which is done in front
of the client and depending if it is 9 or 24 carat
gold, this is when the payment is made, in cash
there and then.
Can anyone bring their jewellery?
Yes, but to avoid getting irregular situations, we
take a picture of the jewellery together with the I.D.
of the client who brings them in and their signature
for proof of conformity.
You claim that you are pawn professionals;
what does is actually mean?
In order to be able to open a pawnshop or buy gold
legally, many requirements are necessary: safety
norms in the premises, special licences, police
control, a register with each entry available for any
investigation and insurances that allow the client
to feel protected at all times in order not to loose
the value of their jewellery. This is what is required
in order to open a pawnshop.
Some people decide to dedicate themselves to
buying gold, door to door or without having the necessary requirements. This is illegal and represents
a risk both for the buyer and for the vendor.
What else is different for your company?
Regarding both the pawn activity and for sales, we
pay the gram of gold at the best price on the market,
which nowadays is 16 €. And the custody and insurance fees of the pawn which we offer are the best.

Does design, brand or Gems that are set in the
gold make a difference in the value?
No, we only value the gold, and the Gems that the
jewel may contain can be given back to the client
there and then. The acquired gold is finally melted,
which means that it does not matter to us if the
jewel is in perfect state or damaged. It is valued
according to the weight of gold and its purity.
It is a good solution in those times of crisis and especially when the Banks are being so little flexible...
Yes, especially that when we pawn gold, there is
not a definitive separation with the jewels which
people may be sentimentally attached to. Once
the difficult time has passed people can get their
jewellery back.
How do you know if the jewellery has not been
stolen?
We cannot be sure, but this is the reason why we
take all the identity details of the vendor and we
have to keep the jewels for a while until the police
give us the authorisation to melt the gold. If it is
discovered that they were stolen, they are taken
away from us and we loose what we invested in
them. This is one of the risks of our business.
Where do you have other venues with this activity?
All over the Canaries and in various European
cities.
Although this is a great solution in this present
day we guess that some people may feel uncomfortable to come in and pawn they jewellery, especially in a small place where everybody knows everybody.
We are extremely discreet, and if they wish,
people can contact me on my mobile phone in order
to set up an appointment at their home or at a time
that may be more convenient for them.

kann, und Versicherungen, damit sich der Kunde
sicher fühlt und weiß, dass er seinen Schmuck
nicht verlieren wird. Dies braucht man als Profi in

Das ist eine gute Lösung in Krisenzeiten, vor
allem da die Banken zurzeit nicht sehr flexibel
sind...
Ja, vor allem das Verpfänden von Gold, weil der
Kunde seinen Schmuck nicht für immer verliert,
denn manchmal fühlen sich die Leute auf sentimentale Weise mit ihrem Schmuck verbunden. Wenn sie
ihre Schwierigkeiten überwunden haben, erhalten
sie ihren Schmuck zurück.
Wie können Sie wissen, ob der Schmuck gestohlen ist?
Das können wir nicht wissen, aber wir müssen alle

Personalien des Verkäufers aufnehmen und diese
einige Zeit aufbewahren, bevor es uns die Polizei
genehmigt, mit dem Einschmelzen fortzufahren.

“Queremos dar una respuesta tranquilizadora,
a todos los residentes y visitantes”
Por segunda vez estamos entrevistando a Guillermo Concepción, pero esta vez en sus nuevos cargos
en el Cabildo, como vicepresidente y consejero de
Seguridad y Emergencias
Nos gustaría que nos hablase de las actividades
de esta consejería…
Esta consejería es de reciente creación, apenas
año y medio de vida, pero sus fines son precisos:
está enfocada completamente al servicio de los
ciudadanos.
Con este fin se ha creado una instalación que ya
tenemos casi culminada, en el antiguo aeropuerto
de Los Estancos. Es el Centro de Coordinación de
Emergencias de Fuerteventura con todo el equipo
informático necesario para dar respuesta rápida
y eficaz a cualquier emergencia y organizar todas
las actuaciones de protección civil necesarias. Se
han invertido unos 400.000 € en equipamiento y
transportes.
¿Cuál es el objetivo principal de esta consejería?
Crear una respuesta firme y tranquilizadora, para
todos los residentes y visitantes de la isla. Poder coordinar los servicios desde este centro para todo el
territorio, aplicando el plan insular de emergencias.
Entre los muchos objetivos está potenciar la creación de dos parques de emergencia más. Junto con el
ya existente en Pájara -que debemos mejorar-, hacer
otro en Gran Tarajal, para el que ya se ha conseguido
una nave en “El Cuchillete” y ampliar los servicios de
Puerto del Rosario y La Oliva.
No obstante, nos atendremos al documento que
recoge las competencias del cabildo: EL Plan de
Emergencias de Fuerteventura (PEIN), en el que se
especifica que el Cabildo no es responsable de las
cotidianas emergencias que ocurren en el día a día;
estas corresponden a cada municipio. Incluso está
recogido que los municipios con más de 20.000
habitantes tienen la obligación de tener un servicio
de bomberos y protección civil propios.
Lo más razonable, desde el punto de vista económico y de eficacia, y más aún por las dimensiones
de la isla, es que haya un servicio de ámbito insular,
partiendo de una estructura profesional y completada
por un voluntariado importante. Hay ejemplos de este
tipo de coordinación en países como Alemania o Inglaterra donde se combina perfectamente el campo
profesional con el voluntariado, dado que además

estos últimos están preparados y entrenados por
los profesionales. Son gente que quieren donar unas
horas de su vida y están dispuestos en cualquier
momento para ayudar en cualquier emergencia. Curiosamente muchos de ellos son a su vez bomberos
profesionales de distintos puntos de la isla, también
hay militares, guardias civiles, policías, etc. En general
son personas de gran entrega y cualificación que no
buscan una contraprestación económica.
Una de las ventajas del voluntariado es que, cuanta
más gente tiene conciencia formativa de lo que se
debe y no se debe hacer en un caso de emergencia,
más posibilidades existen de evitarlo y así todos
estaremos más seguros y sabremos cómo actuar.
¿Entonces la labor desde el cabildo es potenciar
a los municipios para que su respuesta sea eficaz
en cualquier situación de emergencia?
Sí, efectivamente y en los casos de “gran emergencia“, coordinar sus labores unificándolos, dotándolos
de material adecuado y costeando su formación y
para ello ya hemos cedido algunas de nuestras instalaciones en un convenio con la Academia Canaria
de Seguridad para crear un aula permanente de
formación y evitar que esos materiales formativos
siguieran estando en domicilios particulares.
Esto nos recuerda algunos comentarios, que en
su momento vertieron en las páginas de nuestra
revista, algunos profesionales que sentían que
eran los voluntarios los que más material y ayudas recibían.
Sí, y es por ello que queremos ampliar esa información que no fue muy correcta por parte de los representantes de la Asociación de Bomberos Profesionales del
sur de la isla, asociación que, al día de hoy, no se ha
presentado a mi como responsable de esta conserjería; desconozco cuáles son sus objetivos, ni tampoco
en que forma esperan que colaboremos con ellos.
Estoy muy sorprendido, de que estos profesionales de
Pájara, sean los primeros que, recientemente y ante
una situación de solicitud de colaboración, han puesto
pegas, hasta el punto de ser requeridos por su propio
alcalde y consejero para que ayudasen.
Deben sentarse a charlar conmigo y transmitirme
sus inquietudes o en el peor caso, el descontento que
motiva, por su parte, tales actuaciones.
Se lamentaban, en la pasada entrevista, los
representantes de la asociación de que sólo
suministraban equipo a los voluntarios…
Es lógico, ellos son una empresa con un contrato
que cobra del ayuntamiento de Pájara y en cuyo
acuerdo se especifica que una parte del presupuesto
recibido debe ir a las mejoras y dotaciones de equipamiento, por lo tanto es la empresa quien debe suministrarles el equipo y el material adecuado. En este
aspecto la empresa no está cumpliendo lo acordado.

We are interviewing Guillermo Concepción for the
second time but this time he has a new position at
the Cabildo, as vice-president and Safety and Emergency councillor.
We would like you to tell us about the activities of
this council…
This council was created recently, hardly a year
and a half ago, but its objectives are precise: it is
completely focused on services to citizens.
For this reason we have created facilities that are
almost completed already, in the old airport of Los Es

tancos. This is the Emergencies’ coordination centre
for Fuerteventura that possesses all the necessary
computerised equipment to give a fast and efficient
response to any emergency and organise all the
necessary civil protection actions. Around 400.000
€ have been invested in equipment and transports.
What is the main objective of this council?
To bring a firm and reassuring response for all
residents and visitors on the island. To be able to
coordinate services from this centre for the whole
territory, applying the island emergency plan. Amongst
the many objectives we also wish to promote the
creation of two other emergency centres. In addition
to the existing centre in Pájara -that must be improved-, we wish to create another one in Gran Tarajal,
for which we have already obtained an industrial unit
in “El Cuchillete” and increase our services in Puerto
del Rosario and La Oliva.
However we will follow the document that lists
the responsibilities of the Cabildo: The Emergency
Plan of Fuerteventura (PEIN) that sets out that the
Cabildo is not responsible for everyday emergencies;
those are the responsibilities of each municipality. It
also explains that municipalities with over 20.000
habitants must have their own fire fighting and civil
protection services.
The most reasonable, on an economical and efficiency point of view, taking into account the size of
the Island, is to have a service that would cover the
whole island, with a professional structure that would
be completed with a large number of volunteers.
There are examples of this type of coordination in
countries like Germany or England where there is a
perfect combination of professionals and volunteers
and furthermore those volunteers are prepared and
trained by professionals. Those are people who wish
to give a few hours of their lives and are prepared at
anytime to help in a case of emergency. Curiously
many of them are also professional fire fighters
from various areas of the island, also people from
the military, polices, etc. Generally those people are
very dedicated and qualified and don’t expect to be
rewarded financially.
One of the advantages with volunteering is that as
we get more people that are aware of what should
be done or not in a case of emergency, it brings more
possibilities to avoid them, which makes us safer and
aware of how to act.
So, the Cabildo’s duty is to help municipalities
get a more efficient response in case of any
emergency?
Yes, that is correct and in the case of a “big emergency”, to coordinate and unify their efforts, providing
them with adequate equipment and finance their
training. To this effect we have already provided part
of our facilities within our agreement with the Safety
Canarian Academy in order to create a permanent
training facility and therefore avoid for the training
equipment to be stored at individuals’ houses.
This reminds us of some comments that were
previously made in our magazine, when some professionals felt that volunteers were getting more
equipment and help.
Yes, and this is why we wish to deal with this
information which wasn’t very correct on behalf of
representatives of the Professional Fire Fighters’ Association from the south of the Island, an association
which to this day, has not introduced itself to me as
the person in charge of this council; I am not aware
of their objectives, or in which way their expect us to
collaborate with them. I am very surprised that those
professionals from Pájara, are the first who, recently
when faced with this situation of lack of collaboration,
created problems to the point of being summoned by
their mayor and council.
They must come and talk with me and explain their
problems or in the worst case, the dissatisfaction that
motivates such behaviour from their part.
During their last interview, the representatives
of the association were complaining that only
volunteers were getting equipment…
It is logical, they are a company that has a funding
contract with Pájara’s Ayuntamiento and this agreement says that part of the budget received must be
spent on improving and providing equipment, therefore it is the company that must provide them with
adequate equipment. In that respect, the company is
not respecting the terms of the agreement.

Wir interviewen Guillermo Concepción zum zweiten Mal, dieses Mal wegen seines neuen Amtes im
Cabildo, wo er Vizepräsident und Beauftragter für
Sicherheit und Notfälle ist.
Könnten Sie uns bitte etwas über Ihre Erfahrungen in diesem Amt erzählen…
Dieses Amt ist neu, es gibt es seit erst eineinhalb
Jahren und es erfüllt einen wunderbaren Zweck: es
soll unseren Bürgern dienen.
Aus diesem Grund wurde eine Einrichtung geschaffen, die schon fast fertig ist und im alten Flughafen
von Los Estancos untergebracht wird. Es ist das Koordinationszentrum für Notfälle von Fuerteventura.
Es verfügt über die notwendige informatische Ausrüstung, um auf schnelle und effiziente Weise auf jeden
Notfall zu reagieren und wenn notwendig den Schutz
der Bevölkerung zu organisieren. In die Ausstattung
und Transport wurden ungefähr 400.000 € investiert.
Was ist die wichtigste Tätigkeit dieses Amtes?
Wir möchten einen starken Einsatz leisten und die
Bevölkerung und die Besucher der Insel beruhigen.
Wir möchten von diesem Zentrum aus alle Einsätze
auf der gesamten Insel koordinieren und einen Inselplan für Notfälle anwenden.
Unter anderem möchten wir zwei weitere Feuerwehrparks schaffen. Wir möchten den bestehenden von
Pájara verbessern und einen weiteren in Gran Tarajal
schaffen, für den schon ein Standort in “El Cuchillete”
gefunden wurde. Außerdem möchten wir die Leistungen in Puerto del Rosario und La Oliva verbessern.
Trotzdem werden wir das berücksichtigen zu den
Zuständigkeiten des Cabildo gehört: Der Plan für Notfälle von Fuerteventura (PEIN), in dem steht, das der
Cabildo nicht für die alltäglichen Notfälle verantwort-
lich ist, zu denen es Tag für Tag auf der Insel kommt,
sondern dass die Gemeinden dafür zuständig sind.
Dort steht auch, dass die Gemeinden mit mehr als
20.000 Einwohnern, verpflichtet sind, eine eigene
Feuerwehr und eine eigene einen eigenen Zivilschutz
zu unterhalten.
Vom wirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkt aus ist es das
vernünftigste und das effizienteste, einen Dienst für
die ganze Insel zu unterhalten. Vor allem wenn man
die Dimensionen der Insel in Betracht zieht. Es gibt
Beispiele für eine derartige Koordination in Ländern
wie Deutschland oder England, wo die Professionellen
sehr gut mit den Freiwilligen zusammenarbeiten, da
die Letzteren von den Professionellen ausgebildet und
trainiert werden. Das sind Leute, die bereit sind, einige
Stunden ihres Lebens zu opfern, und die jederzeit zu
einem Einsatz bei irgendeinem Notfall bereit sind. Es
ist interessant, dass viele von ihnen professionelle

Feuerwehrleute in verschiedenen Teilen der Insel sind,
es gibt unter ihnen auch Soldaten, Polizisten usw.
Normalerweise sind es Leute, die einen hohen Einsatz
leisten und über hohe Qualifikationen verfügen.
Zu den Vorteilen der Freiwilligen gehört, dass es
sich positiv auswirkt, wenn mehr Leute darüber
informiert sind, was man in einem Notfall tun muss,
weil dadurch eine höhere Wahrscheinlichkeit besteht,
Katastrophen zu vermeiden. So sind wir alle sicherer
und wissen, wie wir uns verhalten müssen.
Also ist es Ihre Arbeit im Cabildo, die Gemeinden
zu stärken, damit diese mit allen Notfällen auf
effiziente Weise fertig werden?
Ja, genau. Und bei “schweren Notfällen” koordinieren wir ihre Arbeit, liefern ihnen das notwendige Material und sorgen für ihre Ausbildung. Dafür haben wir in
einem Abkommen mit der kanarischen Akademie für
Sicherheit einige unserer Installationen abgetreten,
um eine ständige Ausbildung zu ermöglichen und
zu vermeiden, dass dieses Ausbildungsmaterial in
Privatwohnungen gelagert wird.
Das erinnert uns an einige Kommentare, die
einige Professionelle vor einiger Zeit in unserer
Zeitschrift machten. Sie fühlten sich benachteiligt, weil die Freiwilligen mehr Material und
Unterstützung erhalten.
Ja, deshalb möchten wir diese Information vervollständigen, denn das, was die Vertreter des Verbandes
der Professionellen Feuerwehrleute des Südens der
Insel erzählt haben, war nicht sehr korrekt. Dieser
Verband hat sich bis heute nicht bei mir vorgestellt,
obwohl ich das zuständigen Amt leite. Ich weiß weder,
was sie wollen, noch auf welche Weise sie mit uns
zusammenarbeiten möchten. Ich bin sehr überrascht
darüber, dass diese Professionellen aus Pájara die
ersten waren, die kürzlich Schwierigkeiten machten,
als, als wir sie baten zu kooperieren. Das ging so
weit, dass sie sogar von ihrem Bürgermeister und
dem Beauftragten ihrer Gemeinde dazu aufgefordert
wurden zu helfen.
Sie sollten sich mit mir zusammensetzenen, und
mir erzählen worüber sie verärgert sind und warum
sie sich so verhalten.
Die Vertreter des Vereins haben sich in unserem
letzten Interview darüber beschwert, dass nur an
die Freiwilligen Material verteilt wird …
Es ist logisch, sie sind ein Unternehmen, das von
der Gemeinde von Pájara bezahlt wird, mit der sie
einen Vertrag abgeschlossen haben. Es besteht ein
Abkommen, in dem steht, dass ein Teil des Budgets
für die Verbesserung der Ausrüstung bestimmt ist, folglich muss das Unternehmen ihnen die angemessene
Ausrüstung und Material liefern. In diesem Punkt
hält sich das Unternehmen nicht an die Abmachung.

Llega la Navidad y con ella las comidas familiares, las reuniones con amigos, las cenas de
trabajo,… Nuestra vida social se multiplica y todo
gira en torno a una buena comida que acaba con
los dulces navideños sobre la mesa.
En un mundo totalmente globalizado, los dulces
típicos de cada región se van perdiendo y dando
paso a una sobremesa cada vez más estandarizada. Pero, del mismo modo que se intentan
mantener tradiciones y costumbres, también es
importante recuperar la repostería tradicional
canaria.
La gastronomía de las Islas Canarias se caracteriza por su sencillez y por un carácter muy particular fruto de las influencias de culturas como la
europea o la africana, entre otras. Sus platos son
variados, sabrosos y nutritivos, dando prioridad
a alimentos autóctonos. Estas características se
reflejan en una exquisita repostería elaborada con
ingredientes naturales que, en muchos casos,
está compuesta por recetas que han pasado de
generación en generación. Recetas en las que no
pueden faltar el gofio, la miel, el millo, el plátano
o la almendra, junto a otros ingredientes básicos.
TURRÓN CANARIO
En lo que se refiere a la repostería navideña,
frente al turrón de Xixona, el tradicional turrón
canario se consume durante todo el año. Muy
habitual en las fiestas de los pueblos y barrios
de algunas zonas del archipiélago, el verano es
la estación en que más se consume, ya que es la
época del año en que se celebra un mayor número
de fiestas populares.
En Gran Canaria, el modo en que se elabora el
turrón no ha cambiado desde mediados del siglo
XIX, por lo que aún se hace de forma artesanal
utilizando como ingredientes principales el agua,
el azúcar, la miel, el gofio y la almendra. El turrón
más popular es el de almendras, aunque existen
otras variedades como el turrón molido, el de azúcar o el de gofio. La receta básica del almendrado
contiene agua, azúcar, clara de huevo, almendra
tostada, crémor tártaro, matalahúva y pan rallado.
UN DULCE BOCADO
Las opciones para endulzar la Navidad con
un bocado exquisito son muy variadas. Un dulce
imprescindible para estas fechas es la trucha navideña. Típicas de las islas y de la cocina tradicional
del pueblo canario, las truchas son unas empanadillas rellenas de batata, almendras o cabello de
ángel. En la mesa, pueden estar acompañadas
por un postre solo apto para los más golosos: el
queso de almendras. Este clásico canario lleva
la misma cantidad de almendras que de azúcar.
Otro de los dulces canarios que toma como
base la almendra es el bienmesabe. Ideal para
acompañar postres más ligeros como el helado,
su receta combina la almendra molida con yemas,
azúcar, agua, limón y canela.
No podemos olvidar otras exquisiteces como los
cagajones de batata, los alfajores, las quesadillas,
los almendrados, los mantecados,… Una irresistible tentación para los paladares más exquisitos
que debemos recuperar en estas fechas para
mostrar la riqueza de la repostería canaria a las
nuevas generaciones.

Bald ist wieder Weihnachten und dazu gehören
Familienessen, Treffen mit Freunden, Arbeitsessen,… wir haben viele gesellschaftliche Verpflichtungen und alles dreht sich um ein gutes Essen,
das mit traditionellen weihnachtlichen Süßigkeiten auf dem Tisch endet.
In einer ganz und gar globalisierten Welt geraten die typischen Süßigkeiten aller Regionen in
Vergessenheit, und der Tisch wird immer mehr
mit vereinheitlichten Waren gefüllt. Zurzeit wird
versucht Traditionen und Bräuche beizubehalten
und es ist genau so wichtig, die traditionellen kanarischen Konditoreiwaren wieder zu entdecken.
Die Gastronomie der Kanaren ist einfach und
zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass sie von verschiedenen Kulturen, wie der europäischen und der
afrikanischen, beeinflusst wurde. Die kanarischen
Gerichte sind vielfältig und nahrhaft, außerdem
schmecken sie gut. Dabei werden vor allem einheimische Zutaten bevorzugt. Dies stellt sich bei den
hervorragenden Konditoreiwaren heraus, die aus
natürlichen Zutaten hergestellt und deren Rezepte
oft von einer Generation an die nächste weitergegeben werden. Dafür werden unter anderem Gofio,
Honig, Hirse, Bananen und Mandeln verwendet.
KANARISCHER NOUGAT
Zu den weihnachtlichen Süßigkeiten gehört das
traditionelle kanarische Turron, das im Gegensatz
zum Turron aus Xixona das ganze Jahr über ge-
gessen wird. Es ist in einigen Teilen des Archipels
bei Dorf- und Stadtteilfesten sehr beliebt. Es wird
hauptsächlich im Sommer verzehrt, da zu dieser
Jahreszeit die meisten Volksfeste stattfinden.
Auf Gran Canaria wird das Turron seit Mitte
des XIX. Jahrhunderts auf die gleiche Weise
produziertt. Noch heute wird es mit der Hand
hergestellt. Die wichtigsten Zutaten sind Wasser,
Zucker, Honig, Gofio und Mandeln. Am beliebtesten ist das Turron aus Mandeln, aber es gibt
auch andere Arten, wie das weiche Turron, das
aus Zucker und das aus Gofio. Zu dem Grundrezept für den Mandelteig gehören Zucker, Eiweiß,
geröstete Mandeln, Weinstein, Matalahúva (Anis)
und geriebenes Brot.
EIN SÜSSES HÄPPCHEN
Es gibt zahlreiche Möglichkeiten, das Weihnachtsfest mit einem hervorragenden Häppchen
zu versüßen. Während der Weihnachtsfeiertage
darf die Trucha Navideña (Weihnachtspastetchen)
auf keinen Fall fehlen. Die für die Inseln und die
traditionelle kanarische Küche typischen Pastetchen werden mit Süßkartoffeln, Mandeln oder
Kürbiskonfitüre gefüllt. Sie können zusammen
mit einem anderen Nachtisch serviert werden, der
für die größten Feinschmecker geeignet ist: dem
Mandelkäse. Dieser Klassiker enthält genauso
viel Zucker wie Mandeln.
Eine andere kanarische Süßigkeit aus Mandeln
ist das Bienmesabe. Es passt sehr gut zu anderen
leichteren Nachspeisen wie Eis. Es besteht aus
gemahlenen Mandeln, Eigelb, Zucker, Wasser,
Zitrone und Zimt.
Wir dürfen auch andere Köstlichkeiten wie die
Cagajones de Batata (kanarisches Gebäck mit
Süßkartoffel), den Lebkuchen, das Käsegebäck,
das Mandelgebäck und das Schmalzgebäck
nicht vergessen,… eine unwiderstehliche Versuchung für die verwöhntesten Gaumen, die wir
jetzt wiederentdecken müssen, um den jüngeren
Generationen den Reichtum der kanarischen
Konditoreiwaren zu zeigen.

Se puede acceder a las grutas caminando sobre las rocas y mejor aún
nadando para poder contemplar sus
paisajes interiores, cuando el mar está
en calma. El Mirador, desde el que se
aprecia un paisaje fuerte de rocas mar
abierto con una vista de la pequeña playa del pueblecito típico de pescadores.
De camino hacia Ajuy, encontramos el
precioso valle de la Vega de Río Palma
y con el Santuario de la Virgen de la
Peña, patrona de la Isla, al que acuden
en masiva romería los peregrinos en el
mes de septiembre, y el Barranco de
las Peñitas donde se recoge el agua de
lluvia de forma natural.

or better even,when the sea is calm, by
swimming there in order to be able to
admire the interior of the caves. From
the Mirador you will have the best view
of the cliffs, the sea and the small
beach of this tiny typical fishing village.
On the way to Ajuy, you will go through
the magnificent valley of Vega de Rio
Palma where you can visit the «Virgen
de la Peña» Sanctuary, patron saint of
the Island. This is where many pilgrims
come during the month of September,
as well as at the Barranco de la Peñitas
where the rain water gets accumulated naturally.

das Regenwasser in Bächen aus den

This Christmas, we’re going back to
traditional Canarian deserts
Christmas is here and along with it come family
dinners, meetings with friends, work do’s, … Our
social life gets busier and everything revolves
around a good meal that ends with Christmas
deserts on the table.
It is a totally global world; typical deserts from
each region are getting forgotten and give way
to more standardised deserts. But, in the same
way as we try to save traditions and customs, it
is also important to preserve traditional Canarian
deserts.
Gastronomy in the Canary Islands is characterised by its simplicity and its peculiarity which is
the result of influences of European or African
cultures, to name a few. Dishes are varied, tasty
and nutritious, giving priority to indigenous ingredients. Those characteristics are demonstrated in
an exquisite range of deserts that are elaborated
with natural ingredients that in most cases come
in recipes that have been passed on from one
generation to another. Those recipes all contain
gofio, honey, corn, banana or almonds that are
combined with basic ingredients.
CANARIAN TURRÓN (NOUGAT)
Unlike Xixona turrón, Canarian turrón is consumed all year round. It is very common in village
and neighbourhood fairs in some areas of the
archipelago; it is mostly consumed in summer
as it is the time of the year when there are more
popular celebrations.
In Gran Canaria, the procedure to make turrón
has not changed since the middle of the 19th
century and it is still elaborated by hand using
as main ingredients: water, sugar, honey, gofio
and almonds. Almond turrón is the most popular
although there are other varieties such as ground
turrón, sugar or gofio turrón. The basic recipe of
almond turrón contains water, sugar, eggs whites, toasted almonds, cream of tartar, anise and
breadcrumbs.
A SWEET SNACK
There are many options to make Christmas
sweeter with a nice little snack. A must in deserts
for this time of the year is the “Christmas Trout”
(“Trucha navideña”). It is a typical dish from the
islands and a traditional Canarian countryside recipe, “truchas” are pasties filled with sweet potato,
almonds or Angel’s Hair (transparent threaded jam
made with Siam pumpkin pulp and white sugar).
They can be served with a desert that is fit for the
greediest ones: almond cheese. This is a Canarian
classic that is made of the same amount of sugar
and almonds.
Another Canarian desert that is based on almonds is the “bienmesabe”. It is ideal to serve
with lighter deserts such as ice cream. Its recipe
combines ground almonds with eggs yolks, sugar,
water, lemon and cinnamon.
We cannot forget other exquisite deserts such
as cagajones de batata made with sweet potato,
Alfajores, quesadillas, los almendrados, los mantecados,…
It is an irresistible temptation for the most refined palates that we must preserve and go back to
during the festivities to demonstrate the richness
of Canarian deserts to the new generations.

Fiestas navideñas: un sinfín de tradiciones
envueltas en mágicas leyendas
La celebración de la Navidad en España está
marcada por un sinfín de tradiciones, mitos y ritos
que, año tras año, repetimos puntualmente. Sin
embargo, pocas personas conocen el origen o el
porqué de estas costumbres.
¿Por qué tomamos 12 uvas en Nochevieja?
El origen de esta tradición española tiene varias
interpretaciones. Una de ellas nos remite a 1896
cuando, según dicen, acudieron por primera vez
a la Puerta del Sol de Madrid a tomar las uvas
siguiendo el compás de las campanadas. Su
objetivo no era otro que el de burlarse de la costumbre de las familias acomodadas que, la noche
de Fin de Año, convertían las uvas y el champán
en protagonistas de su cena.
Sin embargo, hay otra versión sobre el origen
de las 12 uvas que está bastante más extendida y
aceptada. Según cuentan, la tradición se remonta
a 1909, un año sensacional para los agricultores
que tuvo como resultado un gran excedente de
uva. Desesperados al no saber qué hacer, le
echaron imaginación y decidieron dar salida a
la producción inventando que tomar las uvas en
Nochevieja garantiza la buena suerte para el año
nuevo.
¿Cuál es el origen del Día de los Santos Inocentes?
Aunque en la actualidad el 28 de diciembre, Día
de los Santos Inocentes, es una jornada marcada
por las bromas y las inocentadas, el origen de esta
festividad es muy distinto. Hay que remontarse al
nacimiento de Jesucristo, cuando los Reyes Magos
fueron a Belén para adorar al Mesías. Herodes,
al conocer la noticia, pensó que el recién nacido
podía convertirse en el futuro rey de Israel y arrebatarle su preciado trono. Para evitarlo, ordenó
matar a todos los niños nacidos en Belén que
tuvieran menos de dos años.
¿Qué simboliza un beso bajo el muérdago?
Considerada una planta sagrada por su permanente color verde, el muérdago simboliza buena
suerte y fertilidad. En Navidad, es costumbre
adornar puertas y ventanas con sus ramas. El
tradicional beso bajo el muérdago en Nochebuena, trae el amor a la mujer que lo recibe y, si ya lo
ha encontrado, ese beso le ayuda a conservarlo
para siempre. Si es una pareja quien se besa
bajo el muérdago, serán bendecidos con el don
de la fertilidad.
¿Papá Noel siempre ha vestido de rojo?
En España la tradición señala que son los tres
Reyes Magos los que llevan regalos a los niños la
noche de Reyes. Sin embargo, muchas familias
han cambiado a los reyes por la figura de Papá
Noel que, con un trineo cargado de juguetes y
tirado por renos, recorre todas las casas en Nochebuena. Inspirado en la figura del sacerdote
cristiano San Nicolás, su aspecto actual dista
mucho del original.
El 1931, la empresa Coca-Cola encargó al pintor y diseñador Habdon Sudblom que redefiniera
la imagen que Thomas Nast había dibujado de
Papá Noel para darle un aspecto más humano y
bonachón. Fue entonces cuando surgió la figura
de Papá Noel tal y como lo conocemos en la
actualidad. Al convertirse en protagonista de las
campañas publicitarias de la compañía, su nueva
apariencia se difundió por todo el mundo.
¿Tienen algún significado los adornos del
árbol de Navidad?
El árbol de Navidad está repleto de simbología
y envuelto por numerosas leyendas acerca de su
origen. La mayoría de los adornos, que habitualmente utilizamos para embellecer estos árboles,
tiene un significado especial. La estrella que
corona el árbol recuerda la estrella de Belén y representa la fe que debe guiar a los cristianos. Las
divertidas bolas que llenan de color el árbol, recuerdan las manzanas que San Bonifacio colgaba
en los árboles sagrados. Hoy en día, esos adornos
representan los dones de Dios a los hombres.
Nada escapa al simbolismo. De hecho, las bombillas eléctricas que iluminan los abetos hacen
referencia a la luz del mundo e incluso a la que
acompañaba al nacimiento del ansiado Mesías.
Y es que la Navidad es una época mágica en la
que intentamos rememorar antiguas tradiciones
envueltas en un halo de modernas costumbres.
Aunque indagando en cualquiera de ellas, encontramos leyendas e interpretaciones de lo más variopintas, lo más importante es lograr mantenerlas
a lo largo de tiempo y disfrutar en torno a ellas.

Diese Krippe ist ein Rekord
Es scheint, dass Weihnachten auf Fuerteventura
mit der Eröffnung der riesigen Krippe von Puerto
del Rosario anfängt. Diese Krippe, die auf einer
mehr als 10.000 m2 großen Fläche aufgebaut
wurde, ist eine der größten der Kanaren und zieht
tausende von Besuchern an. Sie ist zweifellos der
neuralgische Punkt der Feierlichkeiten, bei denen
weder die Beleuchtung noch die traditionellen
Veranstaltungen, die Weihnachtslieder oder die
Aktivitäten für die Kleinsten, die an Weihnachten
eindeutig die Hauptpersonen sind, fehlen dürfen.
Im November begannen die Vorbereitungsarbeiten für diese traditionelle Krippe, die Jahr für Jahr
zu den wichtigsten Attraktionen der Hauptstadt
von Fuerteventura gehört. Die Reinigungs- und Aufbereitungsarbeiten wurden von Angestellten der
Gemeinde durchgeführt. Dann waren die Freiwilligen dran, die wie jedes Jahr ihre Verpflichtung
diesem Projekt gegenüber bewiesen.
Das Amt für Volksfeste und traditionelle Veranstaltungen war wieder für die Anfertigung
der Krippe zuständig und hat die Verfügbarkeit,
die Schichten und die Arbeiten der Freiwilligen
koordiniert. Außerdem hat es sowohl was die
Zugänglichkeit als auch was den Rundgang durch
die Krippe betrifft, verschiedenes verbessert.
Auch Unternehmen, Vereinigungen, Verbände,
Kollektive und Privatpersonen haben ihren Teil
zur Krippe 2009 beigetragen, die am Sonntag den
13. Dezember eröffnet wird. Auch der traditionelle
Weihnachtsmarkt wird nicht fehlen, der auf dem
Messegelände neben der Darstellung Christi Geburt aufgebaut wird.
Jetzt fehlen nur noch die letzten Anstrengungen
aller Beteiligten, um eine Arbeit erfolgreich abzus-
chließen, für die viele Stunden Arbeit und Einsatz,
aber vor Vorfreude nötig waren.
DIESE KRIPPE IST EIN REKORD
Die riesige Krippe steht im Barranco del Pilón.
Dort macht der Besucher eine wahrhaftige Reise durch die Zeit und hat ein schönes Erlebnis,
während er durch die Szenen läuft. Figuren,
verschiedenartige Konstruktionen, Verzierungen,
Pflanzen, Tiere,… in dieser großartigen und originellen Darstellung der Geburt Christi fehlt kein
einziges Detail, außerdem wurden Elemente des
modernen kanarischen Lebens integriert.
Man kann während der Feiertage einen Nach-
mittag damit verbringen, mit der Familie durch
diese Krippe zu gehen. Im Innern überrascht nicht
nur der Realismus der Szenen, sondern auch die
Tatsache, dass alles von Bewegung und Leben
geprägt ist.
GEFAHR WEGEN DER KRISE
Im vergangenen Jahr sah sich die Gemeinde von
Puerto del Rosario gezwungen anzukündigen, dass
sie die Krippe wegen der Wirtschaftskrise nicht
aufbauen konnte. Dank dem Einsatz von Vereinen,
Geschäften und Bürgern konnte Fuerteventura die
größte Krippe der Kanaren eröffnen, obwohl es sehr
teuer ist, diese unvergleichliche Krippe aufzubauen.

Un Belén de récord
En Fuerteventura, parece que no llega la Navidad hasta que no se inaugura el Belén Gigante de
Puerto del Rosario. Con una superficie de más de
10.000 m2, este belén es uno de los más grandes
de Canarias y congrega a miles de visitantes. Es,
sin duda, el punto neurálgico de unas fiestas en
las que no falta la iluminación, los actos tradicionales, los villancicos, la música o las actividades
destinadas a los más pequeños de la casa que,
en definitiva, son los protagonistas de la Navidad.
Desde principios del pasado mes de noviembre
empezaron los trabajos en este belén tradicional
que, año tras año, se convierte en una de las
principales atracciones en la capital majorera.
Tras las tareas de limpieza y acondicionamiento
que llevaron a cabo los operarios municipales,
llegó el turno de los voluntarios que, un año más,
demostraron su compromiso con este proyecto.
La Concejalía de Festejos y Actos Populares
ha estado de nuevo al frente de la confección de
este nacimiento y ha coordinado la disponibilidad,
turnos y tareas de todo el voluntariado. Además,
ha impulsado diversas mejoras tanto en la accesibilidad como en el itinerario. Empresas, entidades,
asociaciones, colectivos y particulares han puesto
su granito de arena en el Belén Gigante de este
año 2009 que se inaugurará el próximo domingo
13 de diciembre. No faltará el tradicional mercadillo de Navidad que estará situado en el recinto
ferial junto a la representación del nacimiento.
Ahora solo queda un último esfuerzo por parte
de todos para culminar con éxito un trabajo que
ha supuesto muchas horas de trabajo y entrega,
pero, sobre todo, de ilusión.
UN BELÉN DE RÉCORD
Ubicado sobre el barranco del Pilón, el Belén Gigante consigue que el visitante realice un auténtico viaje
en el tiempo y viva una bonita experiencia a través
de un recorrido por el interior de la escenificación.
Figuras, construcciones de diferentes estilos, elementos ornamentales, animales, plantas,… No falta
un detalle en esta magnífica y original recreación del
nacimiento de Jesús en la que, además, consiguen
integrar elementos del modo de vida canario.
Recorrer este belén en familia es una elección
segura para pasar una tarde de las fiestas navideñas. En su interior, no solo sorprenderá el
realismo de las escenas, sino que además, todo
está marcado por el movimiento y la vida.
PELIGRO POR LA CRISIS
El año pasado, el Ayuntamiento de Puerto del
Rosario se vio obligado a anunciar que no se podía
instalar el tradicional belén debido a los problemas
derivados de la crisis económica. Sin embargo, la
ilusión de las asociaciones, comercios y vecinos
consiguió que, finalmente, y pese a los gastos que
conlleva la materialización de este incomparable
nacimiento, Fuerteventura lograra inaugurar el
belén más grande de las Islas Canarias.
A record breaking Nativity scene
In Fuerteventura, it seems that Christmas
doesn’t start until the inauguration of Puerto del
Rosario’s Giant Nativity Scene. With over 10.000
m2, this Nativity Scene is one of the largest ones
in the Canaries and attracts thousands of visitors.
It is undoubtedly the central point of festivities that
are packed with illuminations, traditional acts,
Christmas Carols, music and activities aimed at
the youngest ones who are definitely the protagonists of Christmas festivities.
Since the beginning of November, work started
on this traditional Nativity Scene that year after
year is becoming one of the main attractions in
the Island’s Capital. After the initial cleaning and
preparation work carried out by the municipal workers, it was the turn of the volunteers who, once
again, demonstrated their dedication to this project.
The Festivities and Popular Fairs Council was
once again at the forefront of the creation of this
Nativity Scene and coordinated the availability,
turns and tasks of all the volunteers. Furthermore,
improvements have been made regarding accessibility and the itinerary. Businesses, entities, associations and individuals all invested themselves in
the Giant Nativity Scene for the year 2009 that will
be inaugurated on Sunday 13th December. The
traditional Christmas Market will also be present
in the Fair Ground close to the Nativity Scene.
There are now only a few efforts left to make to
complete successfully this project that represents
many hours of work and dedication but above all,
excitement.
A RECORD BREAKING NATIVITY SCENE
Situated on barranco del Pilón, the Giant Nativity
Scene allows visitors to make an authentic trip
through time and enjoy a lovely experience while
walking around the Scene. Christmas crib figures,
buildings of various styles, ornaments, animals,

THREAT CAUSED BY THE CRISIS
Last year, the Ayuntamiento of Puerto del Rosario had to announce that they could not install
the traditional Nativity Scene because of problems
caused by the financial crisis. However, thanks to
the dedication of the associations, businesses
and neighbours and despite the costs linked to
the creation of this incredible Nativity Scene, Fuerteventura will successfully inaugurate the largest
Nativity Scene of the Canary Islands.

Christmas festivities: a great many traditions
wrapped up in magic legends
Christmas celebrations in Spain come with a
great many traditions, myths and rites that, year
after year, we punctually repeat. However, few
people know about the origins and reasons of
those customs.
Why do we eat 12 grapes on New Year’s Eve?
The origin of this Spanish tradition has various
interpretations. One of them takes us back to
1896 when, they say, for the first time people
went to Puerta del Sol in Madrid to eat grapes
following the beats of the bells. The objective
was none other than to mock the customs of rich
families who, on the last night of the Year, would
make grapes and champagne the protagonists
of their diner.
However, there is another version of the origins
of the 12 grapes which is more widespread and
accepted. It is said that the tradition goes back to
1909, a sensational year for vine-growers which
resulted in a lot of excess grapes. Desperately not
knowing what to do, they used their imagination
and decided to use the excess production by inventing the habit of eating grapes on New Year’s
Eve in order to bring good luck for the new year.
What is the origin of the day of the Innocent
Saints?
Although nowadays the 28th December, the
day of the Innocent Saints, is a day of jokes
and pranks, the origin of this celebration was
very different. It goes back to the birth of Jesus
Christ, when the Three Kings went to Bethlehem
to worship the Messiah. When Herod the Great
found out about the news, he thought that the
new born baby could become the king of Israel
and snatch his precious throne away from him.
To prevent this from happening, he ordered for all
Bethlehem’s new born babies under two years of
age to be killed.
What is the symbol of a kiss under the mistletoe?
Mistletoe is considered as a sacred plant for
its permanent green colour, and symbolises good
luck and fertility. During Christmas time, it is usually hung on doors and windows. The traditional kiss
under the mistletoe on New Year’s Eve brings love
to the woman who receives the kiss and if she
already found love, this kiss will help her keep it
forever. When a couple kisses under the mistletoe,
they will be blessed with fertility.
Has Father Christmas always been dressed in
red?
In Spain the tradition says that it is the Three
Kings who bring presents to children during King’s
night (on the Eve of 6th January). However many
families have substituted the figure of the Three
Kings for Father Christmas who goes round all
the houses on Christmas Eve on his sleigh filled
with toys. He is inspired from the Christian priest
Saint Nicholas but his current appearance is very
different from the original one.
In 1931, the Coca-Cola brand asked the painter
and designer Hadbon Sudblom to redefine the
image that Thomas Nast had drawn of Father
Christmas in order to give him a more human
and kind appearance. This is when the character
of Father Christmas appeared as we know it now.
As he became the protagonist of the company’s
advertising campaigns, this new image got broadcasted all over the world.
Do Christmas tree decorations have a meaning?
The Christmas tree is packed with symbols
and legends about its origins. Most decorations
normally used to decorate those trees have a
special meaning. The star that crowns the tree
represents the start of Bethlehem and the faith
that must guide Christians. The various balls that
fill the tree with colours represent the apples that
Saint Boniface used to hang in the sacred trees.
Nowadays, those decorations represent the gifts
of God to man.
Nothing is devoid of symbolism. Therefore, the
fairy lights that illuminate the trees are a reference to the light of the world and also the light that
accompanied the birth of the awaited Messiah.
Christmas is a magical time which reminds us
of old traditions that are surrounded with a halo
of modern customs. Although when we start to
investigate them, we find out about varied legends
and interpretations, but the most important is to
maintain and enjoy them.

Die Weihnachtsfeier in Spanien zeichnet sich
durch unzählige Traditionen, Mythen und Rituale
aus, die von magischen Legenden umwoben sind.
Allerdings kennen sehr wenige Menschen den
Ursprung und den Sinn dieser Bräuche.
Warum essen wir an Sylvester zwölf Trauben?
Der Ursprung dieser spanischen Tradition wird
unterschiedlich interpretiert. Eine Interpretation
geht auf das Jahr 1896 zurück, als – wie gesagt
wird – die Leute zum ersten Mal zur Puerta del Sol
in Madrid gingen und die Trauben zum Klang der
Glocken aßen. Damit wollten sie sich nur über die
Bräuche der reichen Familien lustig machen, bei
deren Sylvesteressen Trauben und Champagner
im Mittelpunkt standen.
Es gibt jedoch noch eine andere Geschichte
über den Ursprung der 12 Trauben, die weiter
verbreitet und akzeptierter ist. Es wird erzählt,
dass dieser Brauch 1909 entstand. Es war ein
hervorragendes Jahr für die Landwirtschaft, in
dem es einen Überschuss an Trauben gab. Da
niemand wusste, was mit diesen Trauben geschehen sollte, wurde beschlossen den Verkauf zu
fördern, indem man erzählte, dass diejenigen im
neuen Jahr Glück haben würden, die an Sylvester
Trauben äßen.
Welchen Ursprung hat der Tag der heiligen
Unschuldigen?
Obwohl der Tag der heiligen Unschuldigen, ein
Tag voller Späße, heutzutage am 28 . Dezember
gefeiert wird, hat dieses Fest einen ganz anderen
Ursprung. Er geht auf die Geburt Christi zurück,
als sich die Heiligen Drei Könige nach Bethlehem
begaben, um den Messias anzubeten. Als Herodes
davon erfuhr, dachte er, dass das Neugeborene zum
nächsten König von Israel werden und ihm den Thron
wegnehmen könnte. Um dies zu vermeiden, ordnete
er an, alle unter zweijährigen umbringen zu lassen.
Was bedeutet ein Kuss unter dem Mistelzweig?
Die Mistel gilt als heilige Pflanze, da sie immer
grün und ein Symbol für Glück und Fruchtbarkeit
ist. An Weihnachten ist es üblich, Türen und Fenster

Trug der Weihnachtsmann immer rote Kleidung?
Nach der spanischen Tradition bringen die heiligen drei Könige den Kindern die Geschenke in
der Nacht des Dreikönigsfestes. Heute haben viele
Familien jedoch die Heiligen drei Könige durch den
Weihnachtsmann ersetzt, der am Heiligen Abend
auf einem Schlitten voller Geschenke, der von
Rentieren gezogen wird, von Haus zu Haus zieht.
Diese Figur wurde von dem christlichen Priester,
dem Heiligen Nikolaus, inspiriert und sieht heute
ganz anders aus, als früher.
1931 beauftragte das Unternehmen Coca-Cola
den Maler und Designer Habdon Sudblom das Bild,
dasThomas Nast vom Weihnachtsmann gemalt
hatte, zu erneuern und ihm ein menschlicheres
und gutmütigeres Aussehen zu verleihen. Damals
entstand das Bildnis des Weihnachtmannes, das
wir heute kennen. Da er in einer Werbekampagne
die Hauptrolle spielte, wurde sein neues Image auf
der ganzen Welt verbreitet.
Hat der Christbaumschmuck irgendeine Bedeutung?
Der Weihnachtsbaum ist voller Symbole und
wird von zahlreichen Legenden über seinen Ursprung umwoben. Die meisten der Verzierungen,
mit denen wir normalerweise die Weihnachtsbäume schmücken, haben eine besondere Bedeutung. Der Stern auf der Spitze des Baumes
erinnert an den Stern von Bethlehem und stellt
den christlichen Glauben dar. Die lustigen bunten
Kugeln, die den Baum schmücken, erinnern an
die Äpfel, die der heilige Bonifatius an die heiligen
Bäume hängte. Heute stellt dieser Schmuck die
Geschenke Gottes für die Menschen dar.
Hinter allem verbirgt sich irgendein Symbol. Die
elektrischen Lämpchen, die die Tannen beleuchten, stellen das Licht der Welt dar, sogar das,
welches die Geburt des Messias begleitete.
Weihnachten ist eine magische Zeit, in der wir
uns bemühen, uns in einem Rahmen moderner
Gewohnheiten an alte Traditionen, zu erinnern.
Wenn man anfängt zu forschen, findet man hinter
jeder dieser Gewohnheiten die unterschiedlichsten
Legenden und Interpretationen, aber das wichtigste
ist, dass wir es schaffen, diese immer aufrecht zu

Inauguración de una nueva superficie de
Supermercados Padilla
Coincidiendo con los 30 años al servicio de Fuerteventura, el pasado mes de noviembre la cadena
de Supermercados Padilla y SPAR inauguraron una
nueva y moderna superficie de 800 m2 en el Centro
Comercial Las Granadas de Puerto del Rosario.
Continuando con su apuesta de futuro, esta nueva
iniciativa de Supermercados Padilla da empleo directo a 30 empleados, que se suman a los más de 400
de que dispone la cadena.
El nuevo establecimiento cuenta con 4 cajas de
salida y secciones de frutería, carnicería, pescadería,
horno de pan, además de las habituales de alimentación, lácteos y congelados, droguería y perfumería
entre otras.
A la ceremonia de inauguración asistieron, además
de numeroso público, representantes de Supermercados Padilla, del Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario
y del Cabildo de Fuerteventura los cuales abrieron
la ceremonia con unos breves discursos.
Los asistentes al acto pudieron comprobar las novedades tecnológicas y ecológicas del nuevo centro.
Al finalizar la visita fueron obsequiados con un coctel
y las damas con una rosa, durante la visita del centro.

in Fuerteventura, the Padilla and SPAR Supermarket
chain inaugurated a new and modern 800 m2 supermarket in November in Las Granadas Commercial
Centre in Puerto del Rosario.
This new initiative of Padilla Supermarkets continues in their wager for the future, creating direct
employment for 30 people who have come to join the
other 400 already employed by the chain.
Those new premises have four checkout tills and a
fruit and vegetable section as well as butchers, fresh
fish counter, bakers, as well as the usual groceries,

The Project of Las Salinas’ Chapel includes a 50

lighting electric cables and a road for the traffic.
On the other hand, the footpath that will join La Corte with the village will facilitate the traffic which will be

Young children find out about
their rights
The Ayuntamiento organised various acts, stories,
games and workshops in order to commemorate the
International Day for Children’s Rights which was
celebrated on 20th November.
Activities were aimed at explaining to the youngest
children about their rights, using simple tools and
their own language through games, stories and manual workshops for group and interactive activities,
giving children the opportunity to speak and explain
their doubts or first opinions.
Activities were carried out in the municipality’s
Cultural Centres, starting with Aguas de Bueyes and
Caleta de Fuste, followed by Casillas de Morales,
Triquiviajte and the Casino of Antigua.

Die Gemeinde organisierte verschiedene Veranstaltungen, Märchenerzählen, Spiele und Workshops,

El municipio de Antigua contará con su primera
guardería pública infantil en el 2010, comenzando
las obras a principios de año, y abriendo sus puertas
antes de finalizar el mismo.
La guardería ofrecerá en un primer momento 41
plazas, que serán ampliadas hasta 80, una segunda
fase del proyecto. Dispondrá de tres aulas para niños
de 0 a 1 año, de 1 a 2 años, y de 2 a 3 años. Cada
aula dispondrá de zonas de descanso diferenciadas
con cunas o colchonetas según las edades, con baño
completo, zona de cambiador, y una zona exterior. A
su vez, dispondrá de dos vestuarios, baño, lavandería, cocina y despensa, así como una sala de usos
múltiples destinada a uso de comedor o sala de psicomotricidad. Las instalaciones incluyen un parque
infantil al aire libre, que tendrá una zona a cubierto.
Las distintas áreas se presentan en una sola planta,
cumpliendo con la normativa de accesibilidad sin
presentar barreras arquitectónicas.
The municipality will have its first
Public Nursery in 2010
The municipality of Antigua will have its first public
nursery in 2010 and building work will start at the
beginning of the year and completion is expected
before the end of the year.
The nursery will offer 41 places at the beginning
which will be increased to a maximum of 80 in the
project’s second phase. It will consist of three rooms for
children aged: up to one year old, 1 to 2 years old and
2 to 3 years old. Each room will have sleeping areas
with cradles or mattresses depending on the ages,
complete bathrooms, changing areas and exterior
areas. There will also be two changing rooms, toilets,
laundry room, kitchen and pantry and a multipurpose
room to be used as a dining room or psychomotricity
room. Facilities will also include an outdoors play area
part of which will be covered. The facilities are all on
one floor, which complies with the accessibility norms
and will avoid architectonic barriers.

Die verschiedenen Bereiche werden in einem einzigen Stockwerk untergebracht, um die Richtlinie
für Zugänglichkeit ohne architektonische Barrieren
einzuhalten.
Festaktes wurde eine Tafel mit dem neuen Namen
der Einrichtung aufgestellt: Fußballplatz 7 “Jonathan
Sesma González”.

Local
La alcaldesa de La Oliva, Rosa Fernández, ofreció
una charla sobre Administración Local el pasado
noviembre a los alumnos y alumnas de Gestión Administrativa que realizan sus estudios en el Instituto de
Enseñanza Secundaria Majada Marcial, de la capital.
La alcaldesa explicó el funcionamiento, las competencias y los órganos de gobierno de los ayuntamientos ante un joven público que la escuchaba con
gran interés y que, previamente, a instancias de ella,
se habían presentado, antes de que comenzara la
charla para romper el hielo.
Homenaje al deportista Jonathan
Sesma
El Ayuntamiento, rindió homenaje al deportista
Jonathan Sesma González, formado en el Club
Deportivo Corralejo y quien juega actualmente de
extremo izquierdo o delantero en el Real Valladolid,
en reconocimiento a su destacada trayectoria en el
fútbol nacional. El acto tuvo lugar en el campo de Fútbol-7 anexo al IES Corralejo, que lleva el nombre del
deportista desde el pasado 14 de noviembre, cuando
se procedió a la colocación de una placa en la que
consta la nueva denominación de las instalaciones:
Campo de Fútbol 7 “Jonathan Sesma González”.
Rosa Fernández habló también de cómo se nutren
económicamente los ayuntamientos y de la importancia de que puedan contar con un Plan General,
una herramienta fundamental con la que todavía no
cuenta ninguno de los 88 ayuntamientos canarios,
así como de la necesidad de simplificar y de agilizar
el proceso para conseguirlo.
La alcaldesa expuso la situación del Ayuntamiento
de La Oliva, que ha pasado de contar con importantes ingresos en las arcas municipales en concepto
de licencias en la época de inversión y crecimiento,
al momento actual en que la institución mantiene la
prestación de los servicios aun cuando los ingresos
se han reducido drásticamente.

Verwaltung
Die Bürgermeisterin von La Oliva, Rosa Fernández,
hielt im November einen Vortrag über örtliche Verwaltung für Verwaltungsschülerinnen und -schüler die am
Instituto de Enseñanza Secundaria Majada Marcial
der Hauptstadt Unterricht nehmen.
Die Bürgermeisterin erklärte einem jungen Publikum, wie die Verwaltung und die Regierungsorgane
der Gemeinde funktionieren. Die jungen Leute, die
sich auf Wunsch der Bürgermeisterin vorher vorgestellt hatten, um das Eis zu brechen, hörten mit großem
Interesse zu.
Rosa Fernández sprach auch darüber, wie die Gemeinden finanziert werden und über die Bedeutung
eines Generalplans, der ein sehr wichtiges Mittel
wäre und über den noch keine der 88 kanarischen
Gemeinden verfügt, und darüber, dass es notwendig
ist, den Prozess, um diesen zu erlangen, zu beschleunigen und zu vereinfachen.
Die Bürgermeisterin sprach über die Lage der

The Ayuntamiento paid tribute to the athlete Jonathan Sesma González, who was trained in Corralejo’s
Sports Club and who currently plays extreme left or
front at Real Valladolid, in recognition for his outstanding career in national football. The event took place
on the Fútbol-7 ground next to IES Corralejo, which is
named after the football player since 14th November,
when the name plate was installed, showing: Campo
de Fútbal 7 “Jonathan Sesma González”.

The Mayor explained how the different government
offices work and their competences to a young public
who listened with great interest and who previously
introduced themselves to her request before starting
the talk in order to break the ice.
Rosa Fernández also explained how Ayuntamientos
get financial resources and the importance of the
General Plan, a fundamental tool which none of the
88 Ayuntamientos in the Canaries benefit from, as
well as the necessity to simplify and speed up the
process to get it.
The Mayor presented the situation of La Oliva’s
Ayuntamiento that went from having significant incomes from licences during investment and growth
times to the current situation when the institution
continues providing services and incomes have been
drastically reduced.
En el Muelle de Morro Jable, y con motivo de la
clausura de la Escuela Taller “Seguridad y Emergencias Centro Sur”, se celebró un simulacro final en el
que participaron unas 300 personas entre tripulación
del barco “Volcán de Tamasite”, pasajeros, víctimas
y equipos de seguridad y emergencias.
El ejercicio comenzó cuando en el proceso de
desembarco de vehículos y pasajeros, un coche se
incendia dentro de la bodega produciéndose una
situación de pánico general, la tripulación del barco
activa la señal de alarma del buque y llama al 112.
En la confusión se producen atropellos, contusiones
e intoxicaciones por inhalación de humo con cuadros
de ansiedad, afectando a más de una docena de
personas.
Llegan los servicios de emergencias, sanitarios y
bomberos y proceden a la atención y extracción de

las múltiples víctimas. La brigada de primera intervención de la tripulación del barco extingue el incendio
que se había producido en un vehículo.
La víctima más grave como consecuencia de un
atropello es evacuada en ambulancia hasta la helisuperficie del muelle desde donde es trasladada en
el Helicóptero AH-21 del Grupo de Emergencias y
Salvamento del Gobierno de Canarias.
CLOSING PRACTICE OF THE WORKSHOP
SCHOOL “SEGURIDAD Y EMERGENCIAS
CENTRO SUR”
At the occasion of the closure of the Workshop
School “Seguridad y Emergencias Centro Sur” (Safety
and Emergency Centre South), a final practice was
organised in Morro Jable’s harbour where about 300
people participated of which the crew of the boat
“Volcán de Tamasite”, passengers, victims and rescue
and emergency teams.
The practise started when, during the process of
disembarkation of vehicles and passengers, a car
caught fire causing a general panic situation; the
boat’s crew activated the alarm and called 112. In
the confusion people were knocked over, causing
contusions, intoxications by smoke inhalation with
scenes of anxiety, affecting over a dozen people.
Emergency, sanitary and fire-fighter services arrived
and proceeded to attend and remove the victims. The
brigade of first intervention of the boat crew put out
the fire that had started on the vehicle.
The worse victim caused by being knocked over was
evacuated by ambulance to the harbour’s Heli-pad
and taken on an AH-21 Helicopter of the Canarian
Government’s Emergency and Rescue Group.

“SICHERHEIT UND NOTFÄLLE ZENTRUM
SÜDEN”
Am Kai von Morro Jable fand anlässlich der Abschlussveranstaltung des Kurses „Sicherheit und
Notfälle Zentrum Süden” eine Rettungsübung statt,
an der ungefähr 300 Personen teilnahmen, zu denen
die Besatzung des Schiffes „Volcán de Tamasite”, Passagiere, Opfer und Rettungsmannschaften gehörten.
Die Rettungsübung verlief folgendermaßen: Bei der
Ausschiffung von Fahrzeugen und Passagieren fing
ein Auto im Frachtraum an zu brennen. Daraufhin brach Panik aus. Die Besatzung des Schiffes aktivierte
das Alarmsignal des Schiffes und rief die Nummer
112 an. Durch war das Chaos entstanden, gab es
Autounfälle, Prellungen und Vergiftungen wegen
Einatmens von Rauch, wovon mehr als ein Dutzend
Personen betroffen waren.
Dann kamen die Notdienste, Sanitäter und
Feuerwehr an und kümmerten sich um die Opfer.

Campaña de limpieza en
Costa Calma
El Ayuntamiento realizó una ambiciosa limpieza de
choque de uno de los núcleos turísticos por excelencia de la localidad. Entre otras medidas, se procedió a
la retirada de escombros de las zonas costeras, de las
playas, de sus vías de acceso y de las inmediaciones
del Parque Natural de Jandía, en las zonas limítrofes
de este núcleo urbano.
Con la colaboración de los hoteleros, se mejoró el
alumbrado de algunos puntos, para contribuir así a
mejorar la estética del lugar. Asimismo, se incidió en
las vías de comunicación, los acerados, aparcamientos y otros lugares de uso público.
El embellecimiento de zonas verdes, la retirada de
basuras, desperdicios y escombros propiciará que
Costa Calma muestre otra cara, ya que al tiempo
que se limpiaba se acometieron pequeños arreglos,
acerados, colocación de papeleras o reposición de
luminarias.
se ha convertido en una herramienta crucial para
muchos empresarios de la localidad, que gracias a
su colaboración pueden obtener subvenciones por
los contratos laborales, superiores a seis meses y a
tiempo completo, celebrados durante este año.
Durante la primera semana de trabajo de este
departamento se logró asesorar a más de 58 empresarios, se cumplimentaron 15 solicitudes de
ayudas por contrataciones de personal y se asesoró
a 16 emprendedores en cómo afrontar su apuesta
de negocio.

Cleaning campaign in Costa Calma
The Ayuntamiento carried out an ambitious massive
cleaning in one of the main tourist spots of the area.
Measures included removal of debris on the coastal
area, beaches and access ways around the National
Park of Jandía and in the surrounding areas of the
urban nucleus.
Thanks to the collaboration of hoteliers, the public
lighting in some areas was improved which enhanced
the look of the place. Furthermore work was carried
out on the roads, pavements, parking spaces and
other public services.
The improvement of green areas, removal of rubbish, waste and debris will give another look to Costa
Calma where, during the cleaning campaign, a few
repairs and alterations were carried out on along the
roads, adding paper bins and street lighting.

Die Gemeinde führte eine ehrgeizige Kampagne für
die radikale Reinigung eines der wichtigsten Tourismuszentren des Ortes. Zu den Arbeiten gehörte die
Entfernung von Schutt aus dem Küstengebiet, von
den Stränden, von den Wegen und aus der Umgebung des Naturparks von Jandía, der an diesen Ort
angrenzt.
Die öffentliche Beleuchtung wurde dank der Unterstützung der Hoteliers an einigen Stellen verbessert,
um so den Ort zu verschönern. Außerdem wurden
Straßen, Bürgersteige, Parkplätze und andere öffentliche Orte verbessert.
Die Verschönerung der Grünräume, die Entfernung
von Müll, Abfall und Schutt wird dazu beitragen, das
Image von Costa Calma zu ändern, da während der
Reinigungsarbeiten auch kleine Reparaturen durchgeführt, Bürgersteige hergerichtet, Papierkörbe
aufgestellt und Festbeleuchtungen erneuert wurden.

The Employment and Local Development Agency
(AEDL) has become a fundamental tool for many
businesses of the area who, thanks to its collaboration can obtain subventions for 2009 work contracts

Charlas de concienciación sobre
la importancia de las palmeras
Familiarizar al alumnado de los colegios de Pájara
con la importancia del cuidado de una especie vegetal como la palmera canaria (Phoenix Canariensis),

fue el objetivo central de las charlas y otras actividades que ofreció el Ayuntamiento el pasado mes.
A los pequeños se les explicó cómo la ganadería,
la agricultura y la artesanía se beneficiaban de las
palmeras. También se les habló sobre cómo se empleaba para la construcción de viviendas y corrales;
o qué amenazas sufre hoy, como la hibridación o
las plagas.
Se ofrecieron charlas sobre cómo se obtiene el
guarapo y cómo se transforma en miel de palma,
uno de los productos gastronómicos estrella de la
isla de La Gomera.
Este club lleva compitiendo con éxito tanto en
convocatorias insulares como regionales, registrando
importantes marcas en alguno de sus nadadores y
nadadoras. El club se creó hace tres años gracias al
impulso de un grupo de aficionados a este deporte,
con el ex campeón nacional Alberto Juez a la cabeza.
Actualmente es Encarna Tirado la que rige los destinos del club desde su labor de presidenta, siendo
Alberto Juez el preparador técnico del club.
Actualmente el club integra a 40 componentes
entre los 10 y los 16 años, aglutinando diversas
categorías.
El club aprovechó la ocasión para agradecer el
apoyo de su patrocinador oficial, la empresa “Construcciones y Obras Guillenmal S.L” y al hotel Barceló
por la acogida del acto, además de a las entidades
locales e insulares así como a otras firmas comerciales que están contribuyendo a consolidar esta
entusiasta iniciativa deportiva.

Information talks about the importance of palm trees
The objective of the talks and other activities
organised by the Ayuntamiento last month was to
familiarize school children of the Pájara area with the
importance of caring for vegetal species such as the
Canarian Palm Tree (Phoenix Canariensis).
It was explained to children how livestock, agriculture and hand craft makers use Palm Trees. It was also
explained how it was used to build houses and farm
yards and which threats Palm Trees face nowadays
such as hybridisation or plagues.
Chats were also organised on how to obtain “guarapo” and how it is transformed into Palm Tree honey,
one of the main gastronomic products of the island
of La Gomera.

Im vergangenen Monat bot die Gemeinde Vorträge
an, um die Schüler aus Pájara darüber aufzuklären,
dass es sehr wichtig ist, die kanarische Palme
(Phoenix Canariensis) zu pflegen.
Den Kindern wurde erklärt, wie die Viehzucht, die
Landwirtschaft und das Kunsthandwerk von den Palmen profitieren. Ihnen wurde auch erklärt, wie diese
Bäume für den Bau von Häusern und Höfen verwendet wurden und dass sie heute von der Hybridisierung
und von Ungeziefer bedroht werden.
Außerdem wurde erklärt, wie man Palmsaft macht
und wie man aus Palmhonig die berühmten gastronomischen Produkte der Insel La Gomera herstellt.

El pasado mes de noviembre, en los salones del
Hotel Barceló en Caleta de Fuste, tuvo lugar la presentación del Club de Natación “Las Escuevas”.
In November, the Barcelo Hotel of Caleta de Fuste
hosted the presentation of “Las Escuevas” Swimming
Club.
This club has successfully been competing both
on island and regional levels and some of its swimmers have achieved very good results. The Club was
created three years ago thanks to the dedication of
a few enthusiasts and with the ex-national champion
Alberto Juez in charge of the project. It is now Encarna
Tirado who manages the venues of the club within
her tasks as president and Alberto Juez is now the
technical coach of the club.
At present the Club consists of 40 members aged
between 10 and 16 years of age who are split in
various categories.
The Club took advantage of the occasion to thank
its official sponsor, the company “Construcciones y
Obras Guillenmal S.L” and the Barcelo Hotel for hosting the event as well as local and island entities and
other commercial businesses who have contributed
to consolidate this sport’s initiative.

Im November fand in den Räumlichkeiten des Hotel Barceló in Caleta de Fuste die Präsentation des
Schwimmclubs „Las Escuevas” statt.
Dieser Club ist sowohl bei regionalen als auch bei
örtlichen Wettkämpfen der Insel erfolgreich, und
einige seiner Schwimmerinnen und Schwimmer
erreichten bedeutende Rekorde. Der Club wurde vor
drei Jahren auf Initiative einer Gruppe von HobbySchwimmern gegründet und von dem ehemaligen
spanischen Meister Alberto Juez geleitet. Heute ist
Encarna Tirado die Vorsitzende des Clubs und Alberto
Juez ist der Trainer.
Heute hat der Club ungefähr 40 Mitglieder im Alter
von 10 bis 16 Jahren.
Der Club nutzte die Gelegenheit sich bei seinem
offiziellen Schirmherrn, dem Unternehmen „Construcciones y Obras Guillenmal S.L.”, zu bedanken sowie
bei dem Hotel Barceló, das die Veranstaltung aufgenommen hatte, und bei den Institutionen des Ortes
und der Insel sowie bei einigen Unternehmen, die

RECEPCIÓN DEL “SEA CLOUD”
El pasado mes, representantes del ayuntamiento
subían a bordo del “Sea Club” atracado en la bahía
capitalina en su periplo por las Islas Canarias.
El hecho de ser un velero de 4 mástiles y 110
metros de eslora provocó la mirada de numerosos
curiosos desde primeras horas de la mañana.
La sorprendente historia del “Sea Cloud” se remon
ta a 1931, año de su botadura, en el que EF. Hutton,
un magnate neoyorquino regaló un espléndido yate
de recreo a su esposa, la rica heredera y mujer de
negocios Marjorie Merriweather. Una trayectoria
fascinante de navegación por todo el mundo jalona
la historia del Sea Cloud, donde la segunda guerra
mundial y el destino final a manos del dictador dominicano “Trujillo” desembocaron en un triste epílogo
con su varamiento en Panamá, en los años 70.
Un grupo de empresarios alemanes recuperaron el
navío al que le devolvieron todo su esplendor reconvirtiéndolo en crucero de lujo. El ambiente a bordo
actual de acuerdo con su nuevo uso, dista mucho
del de los actuales buques de crucero al llevar un
número limitado de pasajeros, que disfrutan con
frecuencia de su navegación a vela, extendiendo sus
30 velas al viento.
El “Sea Cloud” navega en esta temporada del
año por las Islas Canarias y Casablanca, siendo el
precio por persona y crucero de aproximadamente
unos 4.500 €.
RECEPTION OF “SEA CLOUD”
In November, representatives of the Ayuntamiento
went aboard the “Sea Cloud” anchored in the bay of
Puerto del Rosario as it stopped during its Canarian
cruise.
This four masts and 110 metres in length sailing
boat created a lot of interest from the very early
morning.
The surprising history of “Sea Cloud” dates back
to 1931, year of its launch, when EF. Hutton, a New
Yorker magnate bought this splendid sailing yacht
for his wife, the rich heiress and business woman
Marjorie Merriweather. “Sea Cloud” has experienced
a fascination cruising trajectory along its history and
during the second World War and then in the hands of
the Dominican Dictator “Trujillo” it ended up running
aground in Panamera in the seventies.
A group of German businessmen acquired the sailing boat and brought it back to its former glory and
it then became a luxury sailing yacht. The ambiance
aboard is very different from traditional cruise boats
as it has a limited amount of guests who frequently
enjoy sailing experiences when the ship unfolds its
30 sails in the wind.
“Sea Cloud” sails in the Canary Islands and around
Casablanca at this time of the year and the price per
person for the cruise is approximately 4.500 Euros.

durch die Kanaren bei der Hauptstadt anlegte.
Die Tatsache, dass es ein Seegelbot mit 4 Masten
und 110 Meter Kiellänge ist, sorgte vom frühen Morgen an für Aufsehen.
Die überraschende Geschichte der „Sea Cloud”
geht auf das Jahr 1931 zurück, als EF. Hutton, ein
Magnant aus New York, seiner Frau, der reichen
Erbin und Geschäftsfrau Marjorie Merriweather, eine
wunderbare Jacht schenkte. Die „Sea Cloud“ fuhr
durch die ganze Welt, bis der zweite Weltkrieg und
die Tatsache, dass sie in den Händen des dominikanischen Diktators „Trujillo” endete, dazu führten, dass
sie in den 70er Jahren in Panama strandete.
Ein deutsches Unternehmen kaufte das Schiff,
richtete es wieder her und machte einen Luxuskreuzfahrtdampfer daraus. Es unterscheidet sich
von den üblichen Kreuzfahrtschiffen dadurch, dass
es nur eine begrenzte Zahl von Passagiern befördert,
die sich darüber freuen können, dass die Segel häufig
während der Fahrt verwendet werden.
Die „Sea Cloud” fährt gerade von den Kanaren nach
Casablanca. Die Kreuzfahrt kostet ungeähr 4.500 €.

The 5th Edition of the alternative youth entertainment programme for the weekend nights called
“DESPIERTA” was presented in November at the
Ayuntamiento.
This initiative will offer in its first phase until Christmas, every Friday night an ample selection of alternative entertainment for youths combining sports,
culture, new technologies, music, cinema, etc. which
will take place in the common public area of “plaza de
las 90 viviendas”, taking advantage of the facilities of
the area such as the multi-sport court, the Municipal
Library or the indoor sport court of the Santo Tomás
de Aquino Institute. The “Despierta” meetings will
take place every Friday until 18th December between
8.30 p.m. and 12 midnight.
WICHTIGE NEUHEITEN BEIM
V. “DESPIERTA”
Im November wurde in den Räumlichkeiten der
Gemeinde das V. alternative Abend- und WochenendFreizeitprogramm für Jugendliche vorgestellt, das
„DESPIERTA” (wach auf) heißt.
Diese Initiative wird in der ersten Phase, die bis
Weihnachten dauert, jeden Freitagabend ein weit
gefächertes Freizeitprogramm für Jugendliche bieten,
in dem Sport, Kultur, neue Technogien, Musik, Kino
usw. kombiniert werden. Diese Aktivitäten finden
an Orten wie „90 viviendas“ statt, wobei der Sportplatz des Viertels, die öffentliche Bibliothek und der
überdachte Sportplatz des Instituto Santo Tomás de
Aquino verwendet werden.
Die verschiedenen Veranstaltungen von „Despierta” werden jeden Freitag bis zum 18 Dezember von
20:30 bis 12:00 h stattfinden.
MEJORAN LAS MARQUESINAS DE PLAYA
BLANCA
Esta iniciativa ofertará, en una primera fase hasta
navidad, todas las noches de los viernes una amplia
oferta de ocio juvenil alternativo combinando el deporte, la cultura, las nuevas tecnologías, la música, el
cine, etc., en el entorno de uso ciudadano como es la
plaza de las 90 viviendas, aprovechando los recursos
localizados en la zona como la cancha multideportiva
del barrio, la Biblioteca Municipal o la cancha cubierta
del Instituto Santo Tomás de Aquino.
Las distintas convocatorias de “Despierta” tendrán
Tras un acuerdo entre el Cabildo de Fuerteventura,
el Ayuntamiento, y representantes de la asociación
de vecinos de Playa Blanca, se acordó coordinar una
serie de mejoras en las paradas de guaguas de la
zona que beneficiarán tanto al servicio insular de
guaguas, como al servicio municipal y a las guaguas
escolares.
El acuerdo permitirá dotar de una nueva base de
cemento a la parada que se encuentra junto a la calle
Chirate. También se plantea la posibilidad de ubicar
una segunda marquesina metálica en la parte alta
de este núcleo poblacional.
Los representantes de la asociación de vecinos
también plantearon la necesidad de instalar una
marquesina en el margen de la FV2 en dirección
sur, para que los viajeros puedan esperar con más
comodidad a la guagua, así como la mejora también
del acceso a la marquesina ubicada frente al Hotel
Fuerteventura Playa Blanca.
IMPROVEMENTS OF BUS SHELTERS IN
PLAYA BLANCA
Further to the agreement between Fuerteventura’s
Cabildo, the Ayuntamiento and representatives of
the neighbourhood association of Playa Blanca, it
has been agreed to coordinate a series of improvements on the bus shelters of the area for the island
bus service as well as the municipal bus service and
school bus service.
The agreement will permit for bus the bus shelter
of calle Chirate to have new concrete base. It has
also been suggested to create a second metallic bus
shelter in the higher part of this urban area.
Representatives of the neighbours association have
also suggested the necessity to install a bus shelter
along the FV2 on the south direction, for travellers to
be more comfortable while waiting for the bus as well
as improving the access to the bus shelter situated
opposite Hotel Fuerteventura Playa Blanca.
VERBESSERUNG DER MARKISEN VON
PLAYA BLANCA
Nach einem Abkommen zwischen dem Cabildo
von Fuerteventura, der Gemeinde und Vertretern des
Bürgervereins von Playa Blanca wurde abgemacht,
verschiedene Verbesserungen an den Bushaltestellen
der Gegend vorzunehmen, die sowohl dem Inseldienst für Busse als auch dem Gemeindedienst und
den Schulbussen nutzen werden.
Durch das Abkommen kann die Haltestelle in der
Calle Chirate einen neuen Grund aus Zement bekommen. Man denkt auch daran, eine zweite Markise aus
Metall über diesem Stadtkern aufzuhängen.
Die Vertreter der Bürgervereins sprachen auch über
die Notwendigkeit, eine Markise an der Seite der FV2
in Richtung Süden anzubringen, damit es für diese
Reisenden angenehmer ist, auf den Bus zu warten,
und den Zugang zur Markise gegenüber des Hotels
Fuerteventura Playa Blanca zu verbessern.

Francis Naranjo – Artista canario
“Me interesa reflexionar sobre lo que no
queda recogido en la primera mirada”
Francis Naranjo (1961, Gran Canaria) es uno de
los artistas españoles con mayor proyección internacional. Desde 1981, desarrolla una intensa actividad
artística que le ha conducido a mostrar su obra en
buena parte de España y en ciudades de todo el
mundo como Nueva York, París, Cuba, Santiago de
Chile, Miami o Milán.
Entre sus proyectos actuales, forma parte de la
exposición colectiva Libertad, Igualdad, Fraternidad
de la Sala Alcalá 31 de Madrid. Esta muestra revisa
los valores de la Revolución francesa desde la óptica
de artistas franceses, españoles y portugueses. Después de visitar diversas ciudades, en 2010 podremos
verla en Las Palmas.
Además, el canario participa en el programa de
creadores-comisarios que el Centro Atlántico de Arte
Moderno de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria impulsa
para su Sala de San Antonio Abad, con la propuesta
None is more. La exposición permanecerá abierta al
público hasta el 10 de enero de 2010.
¿Cómo ha sido tu evolución en el mundo artístico?
Siempre que me pregunta sobre esto insisto en el
inicio de mi obra más personal desde la exposición
en la desaparecida galería El Diente del Tiempo, de
Valencia, titulada El ojo no toca lo que ve (1994). Fue
una muestra desarrollada desde una perspectiva
bastante hermética donde se disponía en la sala
piezas fundamentalmente tridimensionales de color
blanco, el inicio de una etapa monocroma. A continuación surgen proyectos donde se van incorporando
propuestas expositivas con componentes tecnológicos. Llega un momento en que empiezo a poner en
práctica de forma más rotunda la construcción de
espacios donde el espectador es invitado a vivir una
experiencia propia. Cada vez más, la tecnología se
iba adueñando de estos espacios como alternativa
de reflexión de la contemporaneidad, como componente de cotidianidad. Aquel componente estático se
transformó en dinámico.
Dentro de tu obra artística, te mueves entre lo
visible y lo invisible, ¿hay algo de eso en tu forma
de percibir el mundo?
Me interesa mucho reflexionar sobre eso otro que
no queda recogido en la primera mirada, la posibilidad de volver a recurrir a aquella idea inicial como
una plataforma a otras reflexiones paralelas y posteriores a la primera mirada. Esa es mi aspiración. Creo
que es en lo invisible, en lo que queda como enigma,
donde reside la importancia de lo planteado.
En general, el mundo visible es símbolo del mundo
invisible, pero esta simbolización permanece generalmente inaparente e ininteligible. La apariencia y la
inteligibilidad de la naturaleza simbólica de lo real son
literalmente el espíritu de la obra artística generada.
UN ARTISTA RECONOCIDO
¿Cómo te sientes al ser considerado por muchos
como uno de los artistas españoles con más
proyección internacional?
Lo que se comente alrededor de tu obra siempre
es circunstancial, estos comentarios son propios de
un momento. Lo que de verdad me motiva es la posibilidad de enfrentarme a nuevos retos y proyectos
que sí me hagan sentir el riesgo, por eso me siento un
privilegiado al haber podido enfrentarme a ese riesgo
que supone un nuevo proyecto de forma continuada.
En tu obra utilizas las nuevas tecnologías, ¿la
intención es hacer una crítica de nuestra sociedad tecnológica o esto pertenece a la necesidad
creativa del artista?
Las utilizo para realizar crítica, pero también lo hago
a la par que la sociedad en general va modificando sus
actitudes en función del progreso, que se mide sobre
todo según el grado de tecnología. La incorporación de
las nuevas tecnologías en el campo de las artes plásticas es bastante reciente, por lo que nos encontramos
en un momento de experimentación apasionante en
el que cada proyecto se convierte en un reto del que
constantemente estamos aprendiendo.
PROYECTOS
Has colaborado en la exposición colectiva Libertad, Igualdad, Fraternidad que está recorriendo
diversas ciudades. ¿Qué obra has aportado a
esta muestra?
Participo con la vídeo instalación Los colores de la
libertad: blanco. El proyecto se realiza a medias entre
Francia y España, por motivo del 200 aniversario de
la ocupación napoleónica.
¿Qué otros proyectos tienes en un futuro a corto
plazo?
Recientemente he inaugurado proyecto individual
en la Sala San Antonio Abad, del CAAM, en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, titulado None is more, exposición que itinerará posteriormente a las ciudades de
Casablanca, Tánger, Marrakech y Santiago de Chile.
En noviembre se puso en marcha una feria de arte
en Jaén, Artjaén, en la que la imagen corporativa
de la feria es un encargo que se me realizó y donde
presenté una intervención pública. Y en diciembre
se presentará en la sala de exposiciones La Gallera,
dependiente del Consorcio de Museos de la Comunidad de Valencia, la exposición individual Insolación.

intense artistic activity and has exhibited his art
almost everywhere in Spain and in cities all over the
world such as New York, Paris, Cuba, Santiago de
Chile, Miami or Milan.
Amongst his current projects, he is taking part in
the collective exhibition called Liberty, Equality, Fraternity in the Alcála 31 gallery in Madrid. This exhibition
reflects on the values of the French Revolution from
the points of view of French, Spanish and Portuguese
artists. After visiting various cities, in 2010 the exhibition will be available in Las Palmas.
Furthermore the Canarian artist participates in the
creator-commissioner programme that the Centro
Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las Palmas de Gran
Canaria has launched for their San Antonio Abad
gallery with the slogan “None is more”. The exhibition
will be open to the public until 10th January 2010.
How did you evolve in the artistic world?
Every time I get asked this I insist on the beginning
of my most personal creation in the exhibition that
took place in what used to be El Diente del Tiempo gallery in Valencia, called El ojo no toca lo que ve (1994).
It was an exhibition developed from quite a hermetic
perspective where three-dimensional white coloured
pieces were exhibited in the gallery; it was the beginning of a monochrome stage. Later I started projects
where I incorporated technological components in my
exhibited pieces. Then came a moment when I started
putting into practise in a more emphatic manner the
construction of spaces where the spectator is invited
to live his own experience. Every time, the technology
was taking over those spaces as an alternative of
reflexion on contemporaneity as a component of our
daily lives. This static component became dynamic.
In your art, you move between what is visible and
what is invisible. Is this how you perceive the
world?
I enjoy thinking about what we can’t see at first
glance, the possibility to go back to an initial idea as a
platform for new parallel or posterior reflexions to the
first look. This is what I aspire to. I believe that it is in
the invisible, in the enigma that lays the importance
of what is suggested.
Generally, the visible world is a symbol of the invisible world, but this symbol is not generally apparent
and incomprehensible. The appearance and the
understandability of the symbolic nature of what is
real are literally the spirit of the work of art created.
A WELL KNOWN ARTIST
How do you feel about the fact that you are
considered as one of the most renowned Spanish
artists internationally?
What is said about one’s art is always circumstantial; those comments belong to that specific moment.
What really motivates me is the possibility to face new
challenges and projects that make me feel the risk,
this is why I feel privileged to have been able to face
the risk of continuously starting new projects.
You use new technologies in your art. Is this a
way to criticise our technological society or does
this belong to the creative need of the artist?
I use it as a critic, but also because society in general changes its attitude according to progress which
can be valued mainly with the grade of technology.
The incorporation of new technologies in plastic art is
quite recent, which means that we are still in a fascinating experimental stage and every project becomes
a challenge where we keep on learning.
PROJECTS
You collaborated in the collective exhibition Liberty, Equality, Fraternity which is currently being
displayed in various cities. Which piece did you
participate with in this exhibition?
I chose the video “Los colores de la libertad: blanco” (The colours of liberty: white). The project was
created half in France and half in Spain, because
of the 200th anniversary of Napoleon’s occupation.
What other projects do you have in the near
future?
I recently inaugurated an individual project in the
gallery San Antonio Abad, of CAAM, in Las Palmas de
Gran Canaria, called None is more. This exhibition
will later travel to Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech
and Santiago de Chile. In November an art festival
was held in Jaén, Artjaén, where I create the festival’s
image and where I present a public intervention. And
in December the exhibiting gallery “La Gallera” that
depends from the Consorcio de Museos of Valencia,
will host an individual exhibition “Insolación”.

“Es interessiert mich, über das
nachzudenken, was man nicht
auf den ersten Blick sieht”
Francis Naranjo (1961, Gran Canaria) ist einer der
internationalsten spanischen Künstler. Seit 1981 ist
er intensiv künstlerisch tätig, was ihn dazu brachte,
Ausstellungen in einem großen Teil Spaniens und in
Städten der ganzen Welt wie New York, Paris, Cuba,
Santiago de Chile, Miami und Mailand zu machen.
Zu seinen aktuellen Projekten gehört die kollektive
Ausstellung „Libertad, Igualdad, Fraternidad“ (Freiheit, Gleichheit, Brüderlichkeit) in der Sala Alcalá 31
in Madrid. Diese Ausstellung überprüft die Werte der
französischen Revolution vom Gesichtspunkt französischer, spanischer und portugiesischer Künstler
aus. Diese Ausstellung wird in verschiedenen Städten
gezeigt, und 2010 können wir sie in Las Palmas
besuchen.
Außerdem nimmt der Kanarier an dem Programm
teil, das das Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las
Palmas de Gran Canaria in der „Sala de San Antonio
Abad“ mit dem Titel „None is more” organisiert. Die
Ausstellung bleibt bis zum 10. Januar 2010 für das
Publikum geöffnet.
Wie war Ihre Entwicklung in der Kunst?
Immer wenn ich danach gefragt werde, betone ich,
dass meine persönlichstes Werk mit der Ausstellung
„El ojo no toca lo que ve (1994)“ in der Gallerie „El
Diente del Tiempo“ in Valencia begann. Diese Ausstellung war aus einer relativ hermetischen Perspektive
entwickelt worden. Es wurden vor allem dreidimensionale weiße Werke ausgestellt. Dies war der Beginn
einer monochromen Phase. Dann kamen Projekte für
Ausstellungen mit technologischen Komponenten.
Eines Tages begann ich Räume zu schaffen, in denen
der Besucher dazu aufgefordert wird, eine eigene Erfahrung zu erleben. Die Technologie nahm in diesen
Projekten immer mehr Raum ein und wurde zu einer
Alternative, um über das Zeitgenössische in unserem
Alltag nachzudenken. Diese statische Komponente
verwandelte sich und wurde zu einer dynamischen.
Innerhalb Ihres künstlerischen Werkes bewegen
Sie sich zwischen dem Sichtbaren und dem Unsichtbaren. Hat das etwas mit der Art und Weise zu
tun, wie Sie die Welt wahrnehmen?
Mich interessiert es sehr, über dieses andere
nachzudenken, das man nicht auf den ersten Blick
sieht, die Möglichkeit, wieder zu dieser ersten Idee
zurückzukehren und diese als Plattform für weitere
parallele und spätere Reflektionen zu benutzen. Das
strebe ich an. Ich glaube, das im Unsichtbaren, in dem
was als Enigma bleibt, die Bedeutung liegt.
Generell ist das Sichtbare ein Symbol für die
sichtbare Welt, aber diese Symbolisierung bleibt
normalerweise unpassend und unverständlich. Der
Anschein und die Unverständlichkeit der symbolischen Natur des Reellen sind die wirkliche Seele eines
künstlerischen Werkes.
EIN ANERKANNTER KÜNSTLER
Wie fühlen Sie sich angesichts der Tatsache,
dass Sie von vielen als einer der internationalsten spanischen Künstler betrachtet werden?
Was über die Werke eines Künstlers gesagt wird,
hängt immer von den Umständen ab. Diese Kommentare gehören zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt. Das
was mich wirklich motiviert, ist die Möglichkeit, mich
neuen Herausforderungen stellen zu können und an
Projekten teilzunehmen, bei denen ich dieses Risiko
spüre. Ich fühle mich privilegiert, da ich mich dem
Risiko stellen konnte, was dazu gehört, wenn man
ständig an neuen Projekten arbeitet.
In Ihren Werken verwenden Sie neue Technologien. Beabsichtigen Sie, damit unsere technologische Gesellschaft zu kritisieren, oder gehört das
zu den kreativen Bedürfnissen des Künstlers?
Ich verwende diese Technologien, um Kritik deutlich
zu machen, aber ich tue dies auch in so fern, als die
Gesellschaft ihre Verhaltensweisen ändert, um den
Fortschritt zu unterstützen, der vor allem an seiner
technologischen Entwicklungsstufe gemessen wird.
Erst seit kurzem werden die neuen Technologien im
Bereich der bildenden Künste verwendet, deshalb
wird zurzeit leidenschaftlich experimentiert, weshalb
aus jedem Projekt eine Herausforderung wird, dank
der wir ständig etwas dazu lernen.
PROJEKTE
Sie haben an der kollektiven Ausstellung „Libertad, Igualdad, Fraternidad“ mitgewirkt, die verschiedene Städte besucht. Welches Ihrer Werke
stelle Sie dort aus?
Mein Beitrag ist die Videoinstallation: „Die Farben
der Freiheit: Weiß.“ Es ist ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt
von Frankreich und Spanien zum 200. Jahrestag von
Napoleons Besetzung.
Welche anderen Projekte haben Sie für die nächste Zeit?
Ich habe vor kurzem ein eigenes Projekt in der
„Sala San Antonio Abad“ des CAAM in Las Palmas
de Gran Canaria eröffnet, das „None is more” heißt.
Diese Ausstellung wird auch in Casablanca, Tanger,
Marrakesch und Santiago de Chile gezeigt. Im November findet in Jaén die Kunstmesse „Artjaén” statt,
deren gemeinschaftliches Bild bei mir in Auftrag
gegeben wurde. Dort werde ich auch an einer öffentlichen Veranstaltung teilnehmen. Im Dezember wird
im Ausstellungssaal La Gallera, der zum Konsortium
der Museen der autonomen Region Valencia gehört,
meine Einzelausstellung „Insolación“ eröffnet.
