No. 2/09

Philatelic Service
Dear customer,
Since the introduction of
Personalised Stamps in Norway in
autumn 2006, we have delivered
more than a million of these
stamps to satisfied customers.
On 2 March we launched a new
frame, this time in a booklet
containing eight stamps.
This booklet replaces the
earlier version that was withdrawn
in September last year when Norway Post
introduced its new logo. Hepatica is the standard subject for
the stamps which we send to our subscribers and which were designed by
Enzo Finger.
It is now 150 years since the birth of “Ja, vi elsker dette landet”. Bjørnstjerne
Bjørnson wrote the words and Rikard Nordraak composed the music for what
was to become Norway’s national anthem. Arild Yttri has engraved a fine stamp
to commemorate this anniversary.
The Bergen Line celebrates its centenary this year. This showpiece of Norwegian
engineering skills has communication between East and West Norway and has
often been described as one of the most scenic railway lines in the world. Two of
this year’s tourist stamps mark this anniversary. The other four show Norwegian
nature at its best: both wild and beautiful.
Along with this information leaflet, we are enclosing our latest catalogue of
new Norwegian stamps and stamp products. Take a look through the catalogue.
Perhaps we have just the item you need for your collection.
Yours sincerely,
Halvor Fasting
Director

Correction
In our previous information leaflet we wrote that the first
day cancellation for Wildlife in Norway IV showed a birch
sprig. A number of collectors have contacted us to tell
that the stamp shows a sprig from a black alder (Alnus
glutinosa), which is of course correct. We apologise for
this error and thank you all for your feedback.

Hepatica (Hepatica nobilis) is the standard
subject for this issue of Personalised
Stamps. Hepatica is common in Europe
from Finland and Norway in the north to
the Pyrenees in the south. It grows on dry
chalky soil in coniferous and deciduous
forests. Hepatica starts flowering while
the snow is still melting. Norway Post’s
new logo can be seen on the right-hand
side of the stamp booklet. When ordering
Personalised Stamps, customers can
choose which subject they want here.
First day cover
The subject is based on the graphic
elements in the frame decoration on the
stamp booklet.
First day cancellation
Subject from the booklet cover.
Subscribers for these stamps will
receive half a booklet containing four
stamps. This is because the stamps in the
booklet are very close together and it is
not possible to tear or cut them apart.
