The fascination of
wintertime
in the Spreewald
Frosty, white branches along the waterways of the Spreewald form a glittering
sea of ice crystals along the way. Snug and warm in your boat, experience a romantic
journey through the crystal-clear natural landscape.
Once the water freezes, ice-skaters and tobogganers glide gently over the natural
ice-rinks.

Where
Christmas Market: Do you know “Spreewald Christmas – two markets, one boat trip”?
After a pleasant stroll through the Christmas market at Großer Hafen in Lübbenau, you can
take the boat to the open air museum in Lehde. There the traditional hustle and bustle of
the market gives you a glimpse of what Christmas used to be like in the Spreewald. For
further Christmas markets, visit www.spreewald.de.
Spreewald is also worth visiting in winter and
has some surprisingly good deals from November to March. Take a look at the winter deals in
the “Wintertime” brochure or on the Internet

The kingfisher‘s plumage shines bright blue. One look at
it from the water will make you happy! Dragonflies land softly
on fragrant water mint blooms. But the beaver too has found
his paradise here.
The grass snake which accompanies you beside the water
prefers to bite frogs and also sits proudly on many gables of
historical Spreewald houses.
INFO
Legend of the snake king: Many gable ends on Spreewald houses bear two crossed snake heads wearing a
crown. The symbol exemplifies the close attachment people of the Spreewald feel to their legends even today.
You can find more information on the mythology of the

Do you prefer the taste
of
gherkins or to find yourself?
The paths in the Spreewald region are beautiful and long. Every destination is worth a visit as
even the way there will leave an unforgettable impression. Whether on foot through the meadows
or by bike to the cucumbers. You can find yourself with yoga in a magnificent setting and take
on renewed energy. You can choose great ways to use it up again in the climbing forest or with
stand-up paddling.
Discover the uniqueness of nature in the Spreewald along 260 kilometres.
The very well constructed Gherkin bicycle path is a circular route leading through the UNESCO
biosphere reserve, past picturesque streams, romantic villages and the traditional cucumber
fields. www.gurkenradweg.de

Delights that offer an explosion of taste branded products from the Spreewald!
Your taste buds will celebrate this holiday with you. The beauty and power of the Spreewald is condensed into the delicious regional products.
As golden as linseed oil, as green as cucumber, as red as strawberry. And the yeast pancakes with
cinnamon and sugar will take you to the seventh heaven of Spreewald enjoyment.
Quality products from the Spreewald can also be found in selected farm shops,
direct from the manufacturers and in the holiday resorts in the Spreewald.
You can find more information at www.gutes-spreewald.de/kulinarium.
INFO
Gold from the Spreewald: Linseed oil, won from flax seed, is a typical
component of Spreewald cuisine, e.g. with quark cheese. A tablespoon
every morning taken on its own or with a salad is particularly healthy
thanks to its Omega 3 fatty acids.
Plinse/Plinsen: The term is borrowed from the Sorbian
language. The golden-brown egg or yeast pancankes,
can be found on the menues of all good Spreewald cafés
and restaurants.

The cultural heritage
of the Spreewald!
Magnificent costumes traditional festivals, mystical fairytales
and legends and a melodic language with Slavic roots...the Sorbian/Wendish culture certainly represents a fascinating element of
the Spreewald.
Alternate between the two worlds and let yourself be inspired
by exotic impressions, or learn Sorbian and follow the trail of the
merman and the lucky dragon.

INFO
The Sorbian/Wendish culture was added to the nationwide list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014. This
is a compilation of significant Intangible Cultural Heritage
in the Federal Republic of Germany and is coordinated by

Legendary
Spreewald
A special magic lies over this region. When banks of mist lie over dark streams
and only the cracking of the trees breaks the silence, the door to another world
opens: Spreewald‘s mythical world.
The “Lutki” dwarves live there as do the merman, lady midday and the snake
king. They are mostly well disposed towards people and add a mystical splendour
to your Spreewald holiday.
INFO
The devil incarnate once hitched two large black oxen
to his yoke in order to break open the river Spree bed.
But the animals did not obey and pulled to the right and
then to the left. The devil lost his patience and retreated
to hell shouting in anger. The oxen continued their chase,
incessantly ploughing hundreds of furrows, until they too
disappeared and left behind...Spreewald!

Burg in Spreewald ... feeling naturally well
Are you looking for a place to find peace and draw new strength? Then visit Burg, Germany‘s largest scattered village. Here the
Spreewald shows what is probably its oldest, most authentic side. Enjoy the deep green of untouched nature and visit the historical
farms. A visit to the pleasantly warm, brine thermal waters in Spreewald‘s hot springs will ensure soothing relaxation.

Linseed oil – Spreewald's liquid gold. An almost extinct trade is still being carried on in the over 160 year-old Dutch windmill in Straupitz. The only oil
mill preserved in its original state in the State of Brandenburg produces the famous Spreewald gold linseed oil using a technology dating back 100
years involving extremely physical work. The oil miller will reveal the details to you in person on a guided tour and will be happy to let you taste his oil

"In fact, Dissen would be a normal village if it didn't have its many storks' nests, the beautiful half-timbered church and its lovingly maintained local
history museum with over 25 traditional folk costume variations on display…" as a journalist once put it. The exhibition in the museum tells the
story of hard toil in the fields, fairy-tales and myths and life as a child. In the Slav settlement of "Stary lud", you can go on a journey through time,
travelling back 1,000 years to the Slav Middle Ages. It is not only the many festivals and the lively Sorbian traditions that show that Dissen is a village
where the living is good, the many animals, farm gardens and fields are also a testament to the fact that this village is alive and intact.

The attractive countryside of the Spreewald shows a very special side of itself in Schlepzig, in the Lower Spreewald. Enjoy a boat ride through the Venice
of Brandenburg as a silent observer. Newly constructed double rooms, maisonette studios as well as family, deluxe and SPA suites designed in the modern country house style will provide you with a bed for the night. The rooms and suites were newly
constructed in 2016, and all the others were given a loving redesign in the last 2 years. An excellent cuisine and exquisite wines await

The trust of our customers is important to us – step right
into our Glass Canning Factory. This is your chance to see
how we harvest and process.
For us it goes without saying that we process the Spreewald vegetables where they grow. We strive to use proven,
traditional family recipes but also to develop new flavours.
After the tour, you can taste the results, and we look forward to hearing your comments.
