Liebe Mitglieder und Freunde des Clubs,
Bei unserer Mitgliederversammlung haben Sie als Clubmitglied die Mӧglichkeit das Wirken des Clubs für die nӓchsten zwei Jahre mit zu entscheiden.
Wir haben Vorstandswahlen und ich würde mich freuen, wenn sich noch
recht viel Interessierte für die Arbeit des Vorstandes melden würden.
Gleichzeitig werden wir über die zahlreichen Spendenantrӓge entscheiden.
Auch in diesem Jahr werden circa 30 000 Euro an verschiedene Organisationen unserer Region und an den Dachverband für den Studentenaustausch und die Jugendarbeit verteilt.
Seien sie am 21. Mai dabei, wenn es darum geht, Gutes für unsere Region zu
tun. Ich wünsche Ihnen allen einen wonnigen Mai und viele schӧne Stunden
mit ihrer Familie und Freunden und vor allem mit dem DAIFC.

Dear members and friends of the GAIWC,
At our member’s assembly you will have the opportunity in being elected
and getting involved with the board for the next two years. We do have
board elections and anybody who is interested in supporting the German
American and International friendship is welcomed to participate. I am
looking forward to seeing many of you to support the
club with helping out with the board.At the same time we will decide about
the numerous donation requests that were presented
to the board. This year we will distribute about 30 000 Euros to regional
non-profit organizations and to the student exchange of our federation as
well as its youth program. Be a part of the group that decides upon all requests during our assembly on May 21st.

Des Weiteren hat der Vorstand auf seiner Sitzung im April aktuell die Verteilung der Spenden aus
dem Erlös des Pfennigbasars vorbereitet und hierzu die eingegangenen Spendenanfragen geprüft
und . Auf der Mitgliederversammlung wird über die vom Vorstand zusammengestellte Liste der
Spendenempfänger abzustimmen sein. Auch die Kassenberichtsprüfung wird bis dahin abgeschlossen sein, damit der alte Vorstand entlastet werden kann.

Kindergräberzeremonie am Samstag, den 16. Mai 2015
In diesem Jahr findet die Zeremonie in der Kleber-Kapelle, Mannheimer Straße 323 - gegenüber
der Kleberkaserne (am Ende des Friedhofes) - statt.
Wir treffen uns um 9.00 Uhr, um die Rezeption vorzubereiten. Ich bitte Sie wieder, Kuchen oder anderes Gebäck zu spenden. Da wir innerhalb des amerikanischen Geländes sein werden, benötigen wir von den deutschen Mitgliedern und Gästen bis zum 4. Mai 2015 folgende Angaben: Name und Passnummer. (Die ist früher nicht so gewesen! Es ist aber für 2015 eine verbindliche Verpflichtung, der wir nach kommen müssen.)
Alle Teilnehmer versammeln sich um 9.45 in der Kirche. Die Zeremonie beginnt um 10.00
Uhr. Nach der Zeremonie ist Gelegenheit an der Segnung des Gräberfeldes auf dem Friedhof teilzunehmen.
Der Empfang findet im Anschluss in der Unterkirche der Kapelle statt.

American Children's graves ceremony on Saturday, May 16, 2015

This year the ceremony will be in the Kleber- Chapel, Kaiserslautern, Mannheimer Strasse 323,
opposite of Kleber- Kaserne.
We will meet at 9:00 am to prepare for the reception. Please donate a cake, other pastries or
cookies. Since we will be within the American site, we need to ask the German members and
guests, for the following information until the 4th of May, 2015: name and passport number.
All participants will gather at 9:45 am in the church. The ceremony begins at 10:00 am. After
the ceremony there will be an opportunity to participate in the blessing of the burial ground in the
cemetery.
From 10.50 am until 12.30 pm will be the reception in the assembly hall of the chapel.

Background of the children‘s graves: From 1952 to 1971, 451 American infants who died at
birth or shortly after birth at the American military hospital at Landstuhl or at nearby civilian hospitals, were buried in the Kaiserslautern main cemetery (Waldfriedhof) adjacent to the U.S. Army
Daenner Kaserne. Members of the German- American Women's Club knew of the graves and
maintained them early on. In the 1980's, the cemetery management contacted the ladies and informed them the initial lease was expiring and the remains of the American babies would be removed, in accordance with local custom, to make room for cemetery expansion. The women’s club
was determined to save the children’s graves from extinction and appealed to the local Air Force
base legal office for help, however they determined the military could not do anything. The club
then appealed to the U.S. State Department. They too determined that they had no authority in
