Newsletter Issue 08 Friday 24 October 2014 Dear Parents/Carers, We had a really successful open evening this week indicated by the number of parents and pupils that attended and the positive feedback we have received. I would like to recognise and congratulate all of the pupils on their exemplary behaviour , communication skills and enthusiasm. This was reflected in the comments from parents and other visitors. Personally I’d like to thank the four pupils that spoke to the whole audience twice that evening . The pupils read speeches that they had prepared themselves and spoke about the school beautifully. It’s a great challenge to be able to speak so eloquently in front of such a large and important audience. So well done and thanks to Matthew Barrett, Bella Kennedy, Will Moody and Rosie Mills in Year 5 . All Saints Day—1 November Feast of All Saints is a solemnity celebrated to honour all saints, known and unknown who has attained the beatific vision of heaven. All Souls Day 2 November This feast is celebrated by the Catholic Church to commemorate all the faithful departed and during the month of November we will remember all the faithful departed, may they rest in peace. We had a team from the National Grid doing a team building exercise in school on Wednesday. They did a great job at opening up the “Dingle” which is a large bowl shaped wooded area at the front right of the school as you look at it. They worked very hard to clear away a path so the pupils can access a Den. I think in the spring and summer this area will be a great space for the pupils and staff to use. It’s also great that we not only help the community but the local business community helps us. ST VINCENT DE PAUL GROUP Year 8 Mass was wonderful today up at Church, the pupils were beautifully behaved and the choir added a real depth and quality to the worship. It was great to see children of all faiths participating in the service. Thank you. We take bullying very seriously in school and we have continued our commitment to deal with it and challenge it. So the year 7s have been involved in an interactive Anti bulling workshop a class at a time today. I saw the Advertiser photographer so look out for that in the local THE RE-VAMPED press. DINGLE It’s now the end of a very long term , unusual to have nearly 8 weeks before a break. So I know many of the students and staff are ready for their half term holiday next week. I hope that all the pupils and staff return refreshed and healthy on Monday the 3rd of November. Have a restful break CONGRATULATIONS to Marek Marston who won £20.00 cash by picking litter around school !!! Thomas Churchill for consistent hard work and good effort in lessons, especially English. Year 7 football: District competition - last Tuesday was the year 7 boys district tournament, our three groups games saw us overcome Churchill 2 -0, we then drew with Walkwood 0 -0, and finally in a tense final group game we drew with Woodfiled 2-2. This meant we were on 5 points which was the same, unfortunately, as both Woodfield and Walkwood. However on goal difference we did not go though to the semi finals as we had one less goal than Woodfield. A very disheartening result as the boys were undefeated and played very well. Extended football - due to exceptional numbers of boys at year 7 football practice Mr Bailey was able to take three teams to the extended football on Friday afternoon. This was a chance for the boys to play in some competitive games against other schools. The three teams were captained by Harrison Mayne, Daniel Bough and Ali Mahmood. All three led their teams well and all the boys enjoyed a good afternoon of football in the sun. Girls Football Year 6 played in their District Tournament on Tuesday against opposition from Ridgeway, Ipsley, Woodfield and Walkwood. They managed to win two of their matches against Ridgeway 1 and Ipsley; both matches resulting in a 1 - 0 win thanks to goals from Casey Penlington and Alice Seabourne. They drew 0-0 against Ridgeway 2, and Walkwood and lost 3-0 against a very good Woodfield side. St. Bede's finished in third place overall which is a fantastic achievement as they finished bottom of the table last year. Special mention also goes to Ailish Wigginton in goal who made some great saves throughout the matches. Well done to the team; Alice Seabourne, Casey Penlington, Ailish Wigginton, Lauren Bough, Amilie Knight, Niamh Roberts, Lilia Williams and Gracie Wegrzyn. Year 8 played their District 7 a side tournament on Wednesday. They got off to a flying start in their first match against Birchensale with goals from Alice Rogers (2) Katie Notley and Aoife Woodcock. The second game against Woodfield proved to be closer but a fantastic goal from Alice won the match for St. Bede's 1-0. In the game against Ipsley St. Bede's had numerous chances which only just missed or hit the posts but didn't quite go in. Aoife, Katie and Alice did manage to put 4 goals past the Ipsley keeper. A match against Woodrush followed where Woodrush took an early lead with a great goal. However, a determined St. Bede's came back and a goal from Aoife meant that it was 1-1 at half time. During the second half, strong defending from Jessica Notley and Olivia Cole at the back, and great keeping from Tara Gregory meant that Woodrush were unable to score again. Katie and Alice, however, went on to score 2 more for St. Bedes. The girls faced their toughest competition in the match against Ridgeway, who score 2 goals in quick succession - one from an half time PARENTS PLEASE NOTE A PLEA FROM MISS ALLEN VIOLIN TUITION - Mrs Nixon needs to attend a meeting on Tuesday 4 November 2014.
