The Computing and Information Technology Department of KDU Penang has once again
partnered Celcom Axiata Berhad in organising the exciting “U.O.X ignites AppLab” during 22-24
September 2014 at KDU Penang.
It was the 4th consecutive year the “League of Extraordinary Developers Challenge (LEDC)
Campus Programme” was being carried out at KDU Penang to generate interest among students
in bringing creative ideas for mobile apps as well as understanding the development of it.
The event was held in an educational cum competition-based environment and received
overwhelming response from our students. Tye Chuen-Han, who has just finished his Diploma in
Computer Studies, emerged as the winner of “Express Idea” with his innovative idea of
“FINDME” - an indoor GPS to find location and people. He left with a cash prize of RM500.
As for the 2-day workshop, participants of team S.I.X. which comprises of Chong Xin Wei,
Hariivel Suresh, Amir Firdaus and Arvind Suppiramaniyam from the Diploma in Computer
Studies programme and Khoo Khai Lun from the Diploma in Games Technology programme won
the first prize. The team walked away with a RM1500 - cash prize while each of them bagged a
Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Team Titans and Team Eclipse Hub won second and third prize

awarded the “Most Energetic Team”.
“The students’ energy and ideas are amazing. AppLab would like to congratulate all the winners
and hope that the workshop has improved their ideation and team management skills. We
would also like to extend our greatest gratitude to KDU Penang for all the support.” said Celcom
Axiata Bhd Digital Ideas Catalyst, Ms Christina Tan who looks forward to more such
collaborations.
Mr Ooi Beng Chong, lecturer of IT Department was glad for the initiative, he said, “It was indeed
an inspiring and informative workshop for our students. Besides acquiring the knowledge in
developing a mobile app, students learned the value of persistency from how the Angry Birds’
creator succeed after failing 25 times. We appreciate these eye-opening opportunities for our
students and look forward to more partnership with industry giants such as Celcom.”
