Networked Improvement Community Teaching Scholarship
Amount: $3,600 per semester for two semesters (enrollment must be confirmed)
Established by: This scholarship was established by the Network Improved Community (NIC)
working group and funded by the College of Education.
Open to: This scholarship is open to students entering their junior or senior year who intend to
pursue a career in teaching. In addition, the applicant must demonstrate an intent to support
and mentor African American and Latino male students.
Criteria: Good Academic Standing ♦ Financial Need ♦ Community Involvement
Application Procedure: 1) Complete the College of Education Scholarship Application, available
at http://ed.fullerton.edu/current-students/financial-aid-scholarships/; 2) Provide a copy of
your financial aid award package (FAFSA is not required to apply) or other evidence of financial
need (for example: attached a separate page explaining why you are applying for this award
and how receiving it will affect your financial need); 3) Provide a letter of recommendation,
written in the last year, from someone who can speak to your abilities as a future teacher; 4)
Provide a typed, one-page (minimum) essay giving examples of your community involvement
and how your experiences have affected your course of study and future career aspirations. In
addition, please address your intention to support and mentor African American and Latino
Male students. Finally, please also address your plans after completing the credential program;
5) Submit all application materials to the Associate Dean in the College of Education in College
Park 500 or mail your application to: Cal State Fullerton, College of Education, Attn: Dr. Lisa
Kirtman, Associate Dean, 2600 Nutwood Avenue Suite 500, Fullerton, CA 92831.
Application Deadline: April 20, 2015 (by 5:00pm if hand-delivered or postmarked)
