Writer Kim Devore loves the family vibe at Guido’s. This casual Italian restaurant has countless entrée options and a friendly atmosphere where making a new pal is simple. “Its our version of ‘Cheers’” Devore said. “You’re here, you’re family. Excelling in old school Italian, the casual eatery is also famous for its killer pizza. 22235 PCH; 310.317.6769 “Okay, I know Malibu has memorable restaurants,” writer Melonie Magruder said, “but my favorite ‘Bu meal is still a caprese vegetarian sandwich from John’s Garden in Cross Creek, a bag of Sea Salt Kettle Chips and a Fat Tire beer after hiking up to Escondido Falls.” 3835 Cross Creek Rd.; 310.456.8377 Located on a stretch of Westward Beach, The Sunset Restaurant with an ocean view and continental cuisine with Pacific Rim influences makes this secluded casual, yet high-end restaurant photographer Devon Meyers’ favorite Malibu dining spot. The ocean view and array of fine dining makes it the perfect, intimate date location. 6800 Westward Beach Rd.; 310.457.5221 If you’re looking for a quick, casual place to grub, contributor MacKenzie Ring suggests Neptune’s Net. Located at the far western end of Malibu off Pacific Coast Highway, “It’s a great place to grab a quality bite to eat with friends after a day at the beach,” Ring said. She suggests you try their shrimp cocktail. "It’s one of a kind!” 42505 PCH; 310.457.3095 Editor Laura Tate suggests you head on over to the historic and newly renovated Malibu Inn for cocktails, a round of pool and to indulge in the vintage rock ‘n’ roll mood (with live music on weekends) and epic food. For finer, rustic and unique dining, Saddle Peak Lodge in Malibu Canyon will satisfy any meat lover. Game is on the menu, as well as a variety of fish and vegetarian dishes and unique salads by Chef Christopher Kufek. For sublime Italian, Tra di Noi at the Malibu Country Mart hits the spot for Tate. "It’s a fun place to have a glass of wine and people watch from the outdoor patio area." Wade said she “loves the view and the service,” as well as “the Cajun battered fish tacos with a lava flow and/or bartender Patrick’s special cocktail.” Another great spot is Charlie’s, where the tastiest Wild Mushroom Pizza with goat cheese and truffle oil can be had, as well as a plethora of other mouthwatering dishes. To satisfy her sweet tooth, Wade visits ChocolateBox Café, which serves gourmet chocolate, Italian gelato and specialty drinks along with divine sandwiches and salads. Check out the Tiki room at Beachcomber, or sit on the deck and enjoy a libation while watching surfers at famous Surfrider Beach. Here’s a look at our favorite hang spots. Fine wine at the Malibu Family Wines Tasting Garden, is Magruder’s best bet. This cozy, chic destination will even have tourists feeling like a Malibu local. “The Tasting Garden has live music that sounds even better after tasting a couple of flights of the Semler.” 32111 Mulholland Hwy.; 818.889.0120 Meyers said he can always find something fun to do at Zuma Beach. There is plenty of parking, great waves and the nearby Point Dume State Park Preserve offers hiking and fantastic views. Park and take the shuttle. www.parks.ca.gov What better way to enjoy Malibu’s great outdoors than to spend a weekend at the Leo Carrillo Camp Grounds. Ring said, “Nothing beats camping with friends by the Malibu beach. For my eighteenth birthday this past year, I got a group of my closest friends, and we spent the night barbecuing hotdogs, playing games with neighboring campers, and enjoying the night sky.” Even if you’re new to the camping scene, Ring assures you that “it is a guaranteed good time.” entertainment at Malibu Cinemas at Malibu Village the spot for the latest flicks. 35000 W. For fun nighttime hangout, and dinner, Tate likes Friday nights at Beau Rivage Restaurant with DJ Gold Dust spinning karaoke tunes. It’s is the place to be for a hip time.
