WEEKLY ROSARY FOR PEACE & HEALING
The Rosary is prayed every Friday after the
8:30 a.m. Mass, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
is prayed immediately following the rosary.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy feast of St. Pius X! What a joy for us to
celebrate our parish patron saint and to rejoice in the
gift of faith that God has inspired in our hearts!
The Gospel today challenges us to “strive to enter
through the narrow gate.” In traditional language,
Jesus Himself is the gate, our way into Heaven. So
then, today we strive to grow in our relationship with
Jesus. Pope St. Pius X took as his motto “Instaurare
Omnia in Christo” – Restore all things in Christ. We
are restored every time we go to Jesus the narrow gate
in the Eucharist, which Pope St. Pius X was so
instrumental in encouraging. We are restored every
time we go to Jesus, the narrow gate, in the sacrament
of confession. We are restored every time we go to
Jesus, the narrow gate, in prayer, in charity to our
neighbors, in our effort to learn and understand our
faith more deeply.
As we celebrate our parish patron, let us ask for the
grace to be restored in Christ, the narrow gate, through
whom we hope to one day enter the heavenly
kingdom!

A big “THANK YOU” from our parish family of
faith to Deacon Tim Iannacone!
Deacon Tim has finished his summer with us and
will return to Theological College in Washington, D.C.
for one last year of seminary formation. It has been a
joy to witness his first months of ordained ministry in
the church, to see him grow as a preacher, and to get to
know a man dedicated to serving God with his whole
life.
Deacon Tim, we promise you our prayers in the year
ahead, and we look forward to your priestly ordination
in June 2017! Thank you for your service to our
community and for being a living witness for each of
us!

ST. PIUS X: OUR PARISH PATRON
Giuseppe Sarto was born in 1835 in the small village of
Riese, Italy. He was ordained in 1858 and served God’s
people as a curate (nine years), pastor (eight years), Spiritual
Director of the diocesan seminary (nine years), bishop (nine
years), cardinal (eight years) and pope (eleven years.)
During his pontificate, Pius X confronted, challenged and
inspired many critical issues facing the Church. He is
referred to as the “Pope of the Eucharist” because he
encouraged frequent & fervent reception of communion for
all Catholics, especially children who had reached seven
years of age. He established & promoted the practice of
looking at the elevated Host while interiorly praying the
words of St. Thomas, “My Lord and My God.” He reformed
the liturgy and Gregorian chant. Pius X took as his papal
motto, the passage from Paul, “To restore all things in
Christ, that Christ might be all and in all.” He died in 1914
and was canonized in 1954. His will read, “I was born poor;
I lived poor; I wish to die poor.”

benefit St. Raphael Academy in Bridgeport. Please

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Once again the St. Pius Picnic will feature a giant
Tag Sale. Thank you to the St. Pius community for
your generous donations in the past that makes this
event a success! Important reminders:
- Donations will only be accepted on Fri., Sept. 9
from 9:30am until 2:30pm. Drop-off point - school
APR (ramp – side door). We have limited storage so
we cannot accept donations prior to, or after, Friday.
- We appreciate your generous support but we ask
that you only donate gently used goods so we don’t
have to incur man hours and costs to dump items we
cannot sell. We cannot accept the following: stuffed
animals, bed linens and pillows, furniture, old
computers and printers, space heaters, toasters,
broken toys, clothing, cassette tapes and VHS tapes,
and any items that are broken or have seen better
days! Thank you for your cooperation.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The registration period ended on June 30! We are
currently accepting late registrations on a first come,
first served basis until Aug. 31. If you forgot to bring
in your registration, do so ASAP…we have very
limited availability in all programs! Our office hours
until the beginning of the Religious Ed year are
Monday-Thursday from 10AM-3PM.

Have you ever felt called to share the Gospel with our
youth? We are in need of catechists & Core Team
members at every age level. All training, materials,

HELP THE VICTIMS
OF THE LOUISIANA FLOODS
As you know, thousands of people have lost their
homes in the floods in Louisiana. To support relief
efforts, we will collect gift cards for Walmart, Target,
Visa, as well as gas cards. Gift cards should be in
smaller denominations ($100 maximum). The cards
will be sent to the Catholic Charities relief efforts in
the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
Volunteers will be present to collect at the doors next
weekend. Thank you for your generosity!
St. Joseph High School is Proud to Present
a $15,000 Tuition Raffle
The prize can be used for any K-12 school, college or
university or, pay back of college loans. Only 1,000
tickets will be available at a price of $100.00 each. The
$15,000 Tuition Raffle drawing will be held at the
SJHS Maroon and Gold Gala on Saturday, November
19th, 2016 at The Waterview in Monroe, CT. Winning
ticket holder need not be present.
