Letter from the Board President
Dear GMA members,
First let me say how privileged I feel to be
your Board of Trustees' President this year and
how excited I am to be in the midst of this
growth period. What an awesome opportunity
for growth the Greenville Museum of Art has
this year. We have seventeen energized board
members with diverse backgrounds and cultural experiences sure to give us many ideas and sound judgements for operation and guidance. Additionally, our staff
(Charlotte, Grady and Megan) are hard working, dedicated
professionals who put their hearts fully into their work. A
great example of this is the beautiful new flooring and superb
sound system in the exhibition halls brought about by the
grant writing expertise of our staff. I hope you can come by
for a tour to see the exceptional space we now have for showcasing art and hosting social events. Many other improvements are planned and should get underway this year.
The exhibits we have on the docket are indeed superlative
and reflect a broad range of Art interests. The museum seeks
to have something of interest for everyone, young and old
alike. Be sure to attend the great receptions associated with
all the exhibitions and enjoy meeting and socializing with other art lovers. And, of course, the Fine Arts Ball is on March
12 and is one of the premier social events in Eastern North
Carolina.
New initiatives were begun last year such as our Friends of
Photography group and our popular Artini series continues.
Check into these and other experiences the museum has to
offer in this issue of Museum Muse. I know you share my
enthusiasm for what is about to happen this year at the
Greenville Museum of Art. Thank you for your patronage and
support in making GMA what it is today, and helping it to become even better this year.
Dewane Frutiger
President, GMA Board of Trustees
Create a Legacy with a Planned Gift
Remembering the Greenville Museum of Art through a planned gift to the endowment is a thoughtful way to create a legacy for generations to come. By including GMA in your estate plan, you ensure that the Museum will
continue to lead the way for visual arts in Pitt County and beyond. For more information about this opportunity,
please contact Grady Mullis, Director of Development, at 252-758-1946.

Raymond Sobel
April 23, 1922 –July 26, 2015
The GMA is sad to lose one of our favorite artists and art supporters, Ray Sobel. Ray was one of those special people who
made the GMA more than just a place where art hung on the
walls. As an artist and member of Greenville Brushstrokes he
helped create a sense of community where artists found camaraderie in celebrating the art they loved and created. His sincerity, eloquence,
creativity, and keen sense of humor will be dearly missed.
-Charlotte Fitz Daniels, Executive Director
