Pattern Stitches
Adjustable ring: Trap the tail end of yarn against the palm of your LH with
your ring and pinky fingers. Wrap the yarn around your index and middle
fingers twice to form a ring. Pinch the ring between your thumb and index
fingers, and slide your fingers out of the ring. Insert crochet hook from front
to back into ring and draw up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through loop
on hook – 1 loop on hook.
ch (chain): Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook (yarn over) and draw it
through the loop on the hook to form the first chain. Rep this step as many
times as instructed. (The loop on the hook is never included when counting
the number of chains).
dc (double crochet):Yarn over hook, insert hook into indicated st, yarn over
and pull up a loop; [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice.
dc2tog (double crochet 2 together): [Yarn over, insert crochet hook into
next st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops]
twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
dtr (double treble): Yarn over hook 3 times, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn
over and pull up a loop; (yarn over and draw through two loops) 4 times.
hdc (half double crochet): Yarn over hook, insert hook in indicated stitch,
yarn over and pull up a loop; yarn over and draw through 3 loops on hook.
sc (single crochet): Insert crochet hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and
pull up a loop; yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.
sl st: (slip stitch): Insert crochet hook in the indicated stitch, yarn over and
draw through both the stitch and the loop on the hook.
tr: (treble crochet) Yarn over hook twice, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn
over and pull up a loop; (yarn over and draw through two loops) three times.

With A, make an adjustable ring.
Rnd 1: Ch4 (counts as first tr), tr, ch2, [2tr, ch2] 5 times in ring, join with sl st to
4th ch of beg ch-4, fasten off.
Join B into any ch2-sp.
Rnd 2: [Ch3 (counts as first dc), ch2, dc] in ch-2 sp, dc in each of the next
2 tr sts, [(dc, ch2, dc) into the next ch2-sp, dc in each of the next 2 tr sts] 5
times, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-3, fasten off.
Join C into any ch2-sp.
Rnd 3: [Ch2 (counts as first hdc), ch2, hdc] in ch-2 sp, hdc into each of the
next 4 sts [(hdc, ch2, hdc) into the ch2-sp, hdc into each of the next 4 sts] 5
times, join with sl st to 2nd ch of beg ch-2, fasten off.

Join D into any ch2-sp.
Rnd 4: Ch2 (counts as first sc and ch1), sc in each of the next 3 sts, *dc in
next st, tr in next st, [tr, ch3, tr] in ch2-sp, tr in next st, dc in next st, sc in each
of the next 3 sts, sc in ch2-sp, sc in each of the next 3 sts; rep from * and end
with dc in next st, tr in next st, [tr, ch3, tr] in ch2-sp, tr in next st, dc in next st,
sc in each of the next 3 sts. Join with sl st to first ch of beg ch-2.
Rnd 5: Ch4 (counts as first dc and ch1), dc in each of the next 4 sts, *tr in
each of the next 2 sts, [2tr, dtr, ch1, dtr, 2tr] in ch3-sp, tr in each of the next
2 sts, dc in each of the next 7 sts; rep from * ending with dc in each of the
next 2 sts. Join with a sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch4, fasten off.
Note: Scarf is worked back and forth in rows from here on.
With RS facing, join D in one of the triangle corners.
Set up row 1: Ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st across to next corner
and dc in corner – 18 dc. Turn.
Work even row: Ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st across, ending with a
dc in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.
Change to A.
Inc row: Ch3 (counts as dc), [work 2dc in next st] twice, dc in each st across
to last 3 sts, [work 2dc in next st] twice, dc – 4 sts inc’d.
Next row: Work even.
Rep the last 2 rows with D.
Rep the last 2 rows with B.
Rep the last 2 rows with D.
With C, rep the last 2 rows then work Inc row twice.
With D, work Inc row twice.
With A, work Inc row, work one row even.
With D, work Inc row, work one row even.
With B, (work Inc row , work one row even) twice.
With D, work Inc row twice.
With C, work Inc row, work one row even.
With D, work Inc row twice.
