Our Divisions continue to meet their performance indicators albeit the external pressures that are now impacting Malaysia’s economy from a macro level. With the price of crude oil reaching new highs and with the global economy having a lackluster prospect, the Boustead Group is happy to have recorded successful results in the first quarter of 2008, achieving a pre-tax profit of RM152 million. I am also glad to note that our shareholders continue to register their support for our Group given the very positive turnout during our recent 46th Annual General Meeting. At the Boustead Group, we are firm believers in keeping our channels of communication open both for minority as well as major shareholders and this includes retail as well as institutional investors. In May of this year, the Boustead Group initiated a bold move to take full control of Boustead Properties Berhad. With the consolidation in terms of assets and the realisation of earnings from Boustead Properties, the Group’s position will be further reinforced and strengthened. As we look to the remaining part of 2008, we must be aware that with the external factors affecting our nation, this is a fitting time to exercise prudence and tighten our belts. Henceforth, this would mean girding up and cutting down on unnecessary expenditure. All Bousteadians have to be more conscious to deliver on their performance indicators in order to achieve Group wide success. Teamwork and commitment should be the drive for all as we aim to take the Group to greater heights. Thank you. Terima kasih. One day, the office manager called Dennis to ask Preet about his tax form that he’d filled out when he was hired. Instead of marking ‘M’ for married or ‘S’ for single, Preet had drawn a little box and put an ‘E’ in it. Dennis asked Preet and Preet replied, “Well, the form didn’t have my status so I made one of my own: E for Engaged.” Golfing This fellow’s wife was constantly nagging him to teach her to play golf. Finally, one morning he relented and off they go. First hole: Par 3, 179 yards, very pretty. The husband steps up first and says, “Now watch me, and do the same thing.” He hits a beautiful shot, lands on the green with about 30 feet to the cup. The wife steps up, drills it, hooks it, and it ricochets off a tree, bounces off a rock and rolls up onto the green and drops into the cup. The husband looks at this, and says, “OK, now you know how to play, let’s go home.” “I have good news and bad news,” the owner replied. “The good news is that a gentleman enquired about your work and wondered if it would appreciate in value after your death. When I told him it would, he bought all 15 of your paintings.” “That’s wonderful!” the artist exclaimed. “What’s the bad news?” “The guy was your doctor.” My friend is coming for supper “Honey,” said this husband to his wife, “I invited a friend home for supper.” “What? Are you crazy? The house is a mess, I didn’t go shopping, all the dishes are dirty, and I don’t feel like cooking fancy meal!” “I know all that.” “Then why did you invite a friend for supper?” “Because the poor fool’s thinking about getting married.” Job interview A man went to apply for a job. After filling out all of his applications he waited anxiously for the outcome. The employer read all his applications and said, “We have an opening for people like you.” “Oh, great.” the man said, “What is it?” “It’s called the door!” Halloween party The family way Two men were walking home after a Halloween party and decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery just for laughs. Right in the middle of the cemetery they were startled by a tap-tap-tapping noise coming from the misty shadows. Conswelo, a Mexican maid announced to her boss, Mrs. Blanco, that she was quitting. When asked why, she replied, “I’m in the family way.” Trembling with fear, they looked around, and found an old man with a hammer and chisel, chipping away at one of the headstones. The wife was totally surprised and shocked, and asked who the father could be. The maid replied, “Your husband and your son.” Mrs. Blanco was mortified and demanded an explanation. “Holy cow, Mister,” one of them said after catching his breath. “You scared us half to death. We thought you were a ghost... What are you doing working here so late at night?” “Those fools!” the old man grumbled, “they misspelled my name!” “Well,” Conswelo explained, “I go to the library to clean it and your husband say, ‘You are in the way.' I go to the living room to clean and your son say ‘You are in my way.' So I’m in the family way and I quit.” Smart little boy A lady lost her handbag in the bustle of Christmas shopping. It was found by an honest little boy and returned to her. Looking in her purse, she commented, “Hmmm.... That’s funny. When I lost my bag there was a $20 bill in it. Now there are twenty $1 bills.” The boy quickly replied, “That’s right, lady. The last time I found a lady’s purse, she didn’t have any change for a reward.” Good news and bad news An artist asked the gallery owner if there had been any interest in his paintings on display at that time.
