Kumpulan
Staf Boustead yang dihargai,
Deputy Chairman/
Group Managing Director's
message
Dear fellow Bousteadians,
Welcome back from the Raya holidays and hope it was a time
well spent with your loved ones. We are fast approaching the
end of the year, with most of our Divisions performing better
than the corresponding period last year. The Group has
achieved significant improvements on our bottom line whilst
we recorded a strong profit after tax of RM265 million on the
back of a turnover of RM3 billion for the first half of 2010.
The highlight for the period was the Group achieving the
prestigious The Edge Billion Ringgit Club’s 'Highest Returns
to Shareholders Award' in the plantation sector. This
added another feather to our cap and could not have been
possible without the dedication and hard work of my fellow
Bousteadians. I would like to thank each and every one of you
for your continued contribution to the growth of Boustead.
I am also pleased to announce the further strengthening
of the Group’s earnings from the Heavy Industries Division
with the award of the RM1.31 billion contract to service the
Royal Malaysian Navy Scorpene class submarines. This will
pave the way for strong recurring income to the Group’s
bottom line. Additionally, the strong results recorded by the
Affin Group with profits up 36% for the first half of the year
further boosted the growth of the Group. The recent signing
of the Memorandum of Understanding between Affin Bank
and the Bank of East Asia would help to further strengthen
the Group’s position in a very competitive banking industry.
Selamat kembali daripada percutian Hari Raya dan
diharapkan masa terluang tersebut telah dimanfaatkan
sepenuhnya bersama keluarga tersayang. Kita kian
2010.
Kemuncak tempoh adalah apabila Kumpulan mencapai
Anugerah berprestij The Edge Billion Ringgit Club bagi
Pulangan Tertinggi kepada Para Pemegang Saham dalam
sektor perladangan.
Saya
ingin mengucapkan terima kasih kepada setiap seorang
daripada anda yang telah memberi sumbangan yang
berterusan kepada pertumbuhan Boustead.
Saya juga gembira untuk mengumumkan bahawa
perolehan kita dari Bahagian Industri Berat semakin
kukuh dengan penganugerahan kontrak berjumlah
RM1.31 bilion untuk menservis kapal selam kelas
Scorpene Tentera Laut DiRaja Malaysia.
persaingannya.
We should be pleased with our efforts to date and more
importantly we must look towards the future with vigour as
we achieve our internal growth targets and aim for greater
excellence. There is much untapped potential and I urge all
Bousteadians to work together to achieve this potential.

T
he Group Human Resource
Department of Boustead
Holdings Berhad recently
organised another programme
under its on-going Human
Resource
and
Industrial
Relations Training Programme,
entitled ‘Domestic Inquiry and Its
Procedures and Documentation’.
The first session, held on 6 July
2010 at Menara Boustead, saw
the participation of HR and nonHR practitioners from various
companies within the Boustead
Group.
Due to the positive response
from the Group’s HR practitioners
and other line managers, the
same programme was organised
for the second time on 5 & 6
August 2010. To add value, the
participants who participated
either in the first session on
6 July 2010 or the second
session on 5 August 2010 were
also given the opportunity to
practise what they had learned
through a hands-on ‘Mock
Inquiry’ session.
The programme was conducted
by Mr. Dharmen Sivalingam, an
experienced consultant and
trainer from Meca Centre for
Industrial Relations. He shared
with the participants on the legal
aspects of a domestic inquiry, the
roles of the parties involved in a
domestic inquiry, the procedures
and the expectations and
requirements when planning for
and organising a domestic inquiry.
Participants to the programme
agreed that the programme had
indeed given them better insight
and exposure to the requirements
of a domestic inquiry which will in
turn assist them to better manage
and carry out a domestic inquiry,
should the need arise.
The briefing in session
O
n 8 June 2010, an Investors' Briefing
featuring both Boustead Holdings Berhad

update on Boustead Group first quarter 2010
results, as well as the outlook of the Group.
Where necessary, the respective Boustead

in-depth explanation of their divisions.
After covering Boustead Group, the briefing

roup Finance had recently concluded our retreat which was held at The Royale
Bintang Resort and Spa Seremban from 3 - 5 July 2010. The objective of this retreat
was to strengthen the bond among team members, as well as to have a time of fun and
rest. The journey revolved around the states of Negeri Sembilan and Malacca. On arrival
at the resort, we were treated to a delicious lunch at the restaurant. As we served food
to one another, we broke the ice as the trip started off on a pleasant note.
Day 1 activity was designed to bond team members, as we participated in games such

as ‘Football Adventure’, ‘Terompah Shoe Walking’, ‘Diana Landmine’ and last but not
least ‘Star Navigation.’ Everyone had a fantastic time participating in all the activities and
events. Before we called it a day, we were treated to a warm supper at the lobby where
we watched the World Cup Semi Final live on a giant TV screen.
On Day 2, we ventured out to Malacca, a historic city that dated back to the
‘Parameswara era.’ We visited the Stadthuys, also known as the Red Square, which was
the oldest historical site in Malacca. We remembered vividly, the distinctive red colour
of the buildings. Next, we boarded the boat that took us onto the Malacca River Cruise
where on our journey, we enjoyed the historical scene along the banks of the Malacca
River. As our tummy rumbled, we had our lunch at Nyonya Sayang Restaurant, one of

the famous restaurants in Malacca that served authentic Nyonya dishes. We walked
along the famous Jonker Street where we feasted our eyes on the beautiful and historic
architecture. The highlight of day 2 was the gala dinner, where Mr. Daniel presented the
Boustead Long Service Award to two of our very own employees and gems, Mdm. Seah
Huay Choo and Ms. Pushppa A/P Seenivasan who had served the Group for 30 years and
28 years respectively. Mdm. Seah and Ms. Pushppa were visibly moved, as Mr. Daniel
and other colleagues heaped praises to pay tributes to them. We concluded the evening
with a karaoke session where many hidden talents were discovered.
Day 3
started very early, with a Sunrise Watch Morning Exercise. After a hearty
breakfast, we checked out from the Hotel. Before we headed straight back to Kuala
Lumpur, we stopped for a short visit to the Nilai Paint Factory of Boustead Sissons Paints
Sdn. Bhd. The visit was helpful to enable us to see first hand, the paint manufacturing
facility and to understand the process to manufacture and store paints. We were served
lunch by the company. Thank you Boustead Sissons Paints for the warm hospitality. We
then dropped by Nilai 3 for ‘window shopping’ session for an hour. Overall, the team
members had enjoyed the retreat which had brought us closer and had motivated us
to work effectively as a team. It was a very memorable weekend for all of us and we
certainly look forward to the next trip.

Julai 2010 merupakan hari bersejarah buat seluruh warga Boustead Estates
Agency Sdn. Bhd.

air laut. Selesai membeli-belah, kami bertolak ke
restoran tepi pantai di Jimbaran bagi menikmati
makan malam yang diserikan dengan persembahan
tarian. Di kesempatan ini, kami meraikan persaraan
dan harijadi En. Mohd Nasir Ali yang jatuh pada
31 Ogos 2010. Jam 10.00 malam, kami tiba di
hotel dan mengambil peluang untuk menikmati
keindahan suasana malam di Kuta.
’Catch Me I’m Falling’,
