Mullane Healy Godley Irish Dance Academy
IRISH DANCE ACADEMY
This year we really encourage all Dancers to participate in Academy events like
Parades, Public Performances, School Recitals, Class Parties, Academy
Feiseanna, Ceili Nights, Pool and Pizza Party, and other Academy get-togethers.
Last year was amazing for the inaugural year of the Mullane Healy O’Brien Irish Dance Academy. Between the
hard work of preparing dancers and teams successfully for major competitions like the All-Scotland, All-Ireland,
Great Britain, and World Championships, - the Academy had time for a lot of fun as well with our Christmas
School Feis and Party, the Night of Shenanigans, our Halloween Feis, the Family Feis Weekend, our Dancing on the
Pier recital, pool parties, performances, parades, and a lot more. In addition to all of the above, we know that
2008-09 will be even better as we are planning a welcome back Ceili Night (information available shortly), along
with a Christmas Concert and other fun events.
FAQs
New dancers who are three and four years of age.
Level 1 classes are designed for Beginner and Advanced Beginners in their first
and second year of dance (excluding Tot class) and wish to only attend once a
week.
Level 2 classes are designed for Beginner and Advanced Beginners who wish to
compete and will attend at least
classes a week.
Level 3 classes are designed for dancers who compete at the Novice / Prizewinner level at an open feis. Dancers must attend at least
classes a week.
Level 4 classes are for Preliminary /Championship dancers. Dancers must
attend at least two classes a week. In EP/GP, there will be an additional class offered on
Thursdays with Gary Healy for an additional fifteen dollars—check needs to be made out to Gary Healy.
Level 5 is designed specifically for recreational dancing for those dancers who
choose not to compete—this is for those dancers that have three or more years
of dance experience. This year’s class is entitled the
where team and solo dancing will be taught
Level 6 is designed for older dancers who do not compete on a regular basis.
This year’s class is entitled
and is offered more for
recreational dancers who wish to come to class, work on steps, learn new
dances, but not compete on a regular basis. Dancers who have already learned
both soft shoe and hard shoes and in 7th grade and higher is welcome to enroll.
Registration forms are included. You may have already received an email as to what class is preferred for your
dancer. If you have any questions, please see a teacher or ask on any of the Registration Nights.
The calendar and tuition schedule shows the fees for the 2008-09 dance year. There are 35 weeks listed, but the
fees only cover 34 weeks of lessons. We have added the extra week in anticipation of a canceled class due to
inclement weather.
- it is the Academy's policy that all parents wait outside of the room where lessons are being given.
This is based on many year’s of experience regarding what works best for both the teachers and dancers and causes
the least class disruption.
No. Dancers are encouraged to set their own goals, competitive or recreational. Instruction, however, will always
stress proper form and technique. Dancers are welcome to compete at their own pace. However, we do encourage
all dancers in the Academy to participate in School Feiseanna. MHOB offers two Academy only competitions: The
Christmas Class Feis and the Family Feis Weekend. These events are an excellent tool to build self-confidence, be
introduced to competition, and also for our competitive dancers to get desired comments from renowned
adjudicators to help better prepare for competition.
No, unlike other Academies that have substantial fundraising obligations there are no mandatory fundraising
obligations required of the parents and dancers. Each family is required only to pay an annual $30 dues to the
MHOB Parent’s Association only ($15 for EP/GP families that paid dues last year after the schools merged).
The Academy though is built on our parents, who in partnership with the teaching staff, assist in Academy activities.
Last year, the MHOB Parent’s Association assisted in awarding stipends to all dancers competing in international
competitions. Additionally, through support to the Academy, the MHOB Parent’s Assocaition assisted in hosting
the Christmas Party, Pool Party, Recital at Navy Pier, various Pizza parties, and support to our two Open Feises
which are traditionally the most organized Feises in the Mid-west.
This year the MHOB Parent’s Association is planning to host a Ceili
Night where parents and dancers can enjoy a night of dancing and fun,
along with our Nights of Shenanigans, and a Christmas Concert for all
dancers to participate in. Additional events such as the Family Feis and
Recital at Navy Pier are once again tops on the list for 2008-09 and we
encourage all dancers to participate in all these fabulous events.
Each month the Academy sends out the MHOB Minutes that explains all
upcoming events. In addition the Academy has a web site which contains
email access to teachers and a question message board.

Booster Club Enrollment
The Mullane Healy O’Brien Booster Club was established to support
the dancers within the Academy in many different ways.
The Booster Club, which has been organized as
a non-profit corporation under the laws of the
State of Illinois and within the definition of
Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code,
as amended, shall have the following purpose:
To establish and maintain an
organization that utilizes the talents
and abilities of its members to support
the social, educational and competitive
dance experiences of the students of
the Mullane- Healy-O'Brien Irish Dance
Academy and their families.
To maximize communication between
and among its members and the
Mullane- Healy-O'Brien Irish Dance
Academy.
Proceeds from hosting the annual Mullane Healy O’Brien Feis, the
Halloween Feis, the Night of Shenanigans, and other fundraising events
are used for the sole purpose of providing for our dancers and
promoting school unity. Just look at some of the financial assistance and
events that the Booster Club provides and will be providing for the
dancers in the Academy:
Annual Christmas Party
End of the Year Pool Party
St. Patrick’s Day Parades
Performances
School Parties
Picnics
Beginner Assistance at Feises
Travel Stipends
New MHOB Class Costumes
This year we are asking all families to join the Booster Club. The
annual dues for a family is $30* which is remarkably less then many
other Irish Dance Academies that are the same size and stature of MHoB.
It is important that the Booster Club includes the support of all the families
of the Academy not only through your dues but also through your
participation in helping create great memories and friendships for our
dancers.
Please complete the following information and forward
payment as indicated below:
To provide financial assistance to its
