Lasallian Core Value: COMMUNION
Graduate Attribute: Compassionate
In taking on the name of Brother, De La Salle espoused that the relationship between teacher and
student was one of fraternal care. Authentic love for students, in De La Salle’s mind, was the
ultimate basis for effective teaching. Through the Christian Schools, young people experienced an
affection and respect not commonly bestowed on the young by the general society of that time.
De La Salle spoke often of how the Brother was to relate to his student: “By love and patience, win
over the hearts of those whom you teach”. In yet another passage he invites the teacher to see in
the young, the image of Jesus: “You should cultivate a very special tenderness for them and procure
their spiritual welfare as far as you will be able, considering them as member of Jesus Christ and his
well-beloved. (Meditations)
The Lasallian is thus called upon to be compassionate. That is to say, the Lasallian is to mirror in his attitudes and actions
his deep love for others, considering them to be his brothers and sisters.
Reading:
Luke 11:37-41
While he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in and sat at table. The Pharisee
was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. And the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees
cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness. You fools!
Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? But give for alms those things which are within; and
behold, everything is clean for you.
Reflection:
Which is more important to God - clean hands or a clean mind and heart? Jesus chided the Pharisees for
harboring evil thoughts that make us unclean spiritually - such as greed, pride, bitterness, envy, arrogance,
and the like. Why does he urge them, and us, to give alms? When we give freely and generously to those in
need we express love, compassion, kindness, and mercy. And if the heart is full of love and compassion, then
there is no room for envy, greed, bitterness, and the like. Do you allow God's love to transform your heart,
mind, and actions toward your neighbor?
Prayer:
"Lord Jesus, fill me with your love and increase my thirst for holiness. As we promote the culture of helping,
cleanse my heart of every evil thought and desire and help me to act kindly and justly and to speak charitably
with my neighbor."

Every two weeks the Learning Resource Center features
snippets of articles covering different topics, such as
general info, leisure, sports, to name a few. A related
question will also be posted. We invite everyone to join us

What conditions are related to
ADHD?
Guinness World Records 2015 reported that on
December 2013, American singer Beyonce unexpectedly
released a studio album, with 14 new tracks and 17 videos,
exclusively on iTunes. In its first three days of availability as
a download, it sold 828,773 copies worldwide.

Guinness World Records 2015
LRC Question:
What is the title of the fastest-selling iTunes
Album released by Beyonce?
To share with us your answer, please go to
www.hslrcavc.wordpress.com.
Prizes await the first two Lasallian readers (student
and teacher/support personnel) with the correct
answer!
NOTE: Guinness World Records 2015 is available @
the Reference Section of the LRC.
-From CENTRO-EIP
Kids with ADHD often have other
conditions as well. Doctors refer to this as
comorbidity. Some conditions look a
lot like ADHD because they have some
of the same symptoms. It’s important that
your child’s issues are properly identified so you can start an
appropriate treatment program. Here are issues that often coexist with ADHD:

Learning disabilities. Some learning disabilities make it
hard for children to stay organized. Children with certain
forms of dyslexia have trouble processing and responding
to directions (written or spoken).

Social (pragmatic) communication disorder. This
condition makes it hard for a child to converse in socially
appropriate ways. Kids with social communication disorder
may have trouble understanding body language, puns,
sarcasm and statements that don’t mean exactly what they
say.

Auditory processing disorder. This can make it hard for
kids to understand and follow spoken directions. There’s a
“disconnect” somewhere between the ear and brain,
making a child appear inattentive or unable to follow
directions. Auditory processing disorder can coexist with
ADHD. But sometimes one gets misdiagnosed for the
other.

Motor and oral (vocal) tic disorders. Although the most
commonly known tic disorder is Tourette syndrome, there
are others as well. Tic disorders can cause body movements and vocal sounds that kids can’t control.

Behavior disorders. Oppositional defiant disorder is common in children with the combined type of ADHD. So is
conduct disorder.

Emotional regulation issues. More than just temporary
emotional difficulties, mental health conditions such as
anxiety disorders, depressive disorders and obsessivecompulsive and related disorders can cause symptoms
beyond a child’s control.[11] Some of those symptoms are
also seen with ADHD, such as emotional outbursts, high
energy and the need to have things be “just so.”
What makes iTunes the most popular jukebox
software in the world?
iTunes is a piece of software that lets you add to,
organize and play your digital media collection on your
computer, as well as sync it to a portable device. It's a jukebox player along the lines of Songbird and Windows Media
Player, and you can use it on a Mac or Windows machine.
The most significant difference between iTunes and some
other media players is the built-in iTunes Store (where you
can get podcasts; iPhone, iPad and iPod touch apps; music
videos; movies; audiobooks and TV shows, too) and its
multi-level integration with Apple's iPhone and its iPod
portable media player.
THE EIP DIG
ADHD and many of the issues described above share a common thread: executive functioning issues. Executive functioning
skills allow us to plan, organize, remember things, prioritize,
pay attention and get started on tasks. A child with ADHD or
another disorder may lack skill in one or more executive
functions.
