The International Childhood Cancer Day:
Fundación Nuestros Hijos kicks off a campaign with the early signs to the
early detection of childhood cancer
In the context of The International Childhood Cancer Day, Fundación Nuestros Hijos joined the
International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organizations (ICCCPO) call, to pay attention in key
signs, some of them are lose of weight, fever, become pale, bruises and severe headache.
Each year, more than 250.000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. Annually in Chile reach 500 new
cases approximately, a reality that however, have a positive new because in that country the 75% of this
children gets better if receives a adequate and timely treatment.
In an activity held in Caupolican Square on Metropolitan Park, Doctor Marcela Zubieta, vice president of
Fundación Nuestros Hijos Directory, said that this campaign is mainly focus on parents and a personal primary
care of clinical health, “because there are warning signs that should be considered to get an early diagnosis.
Because of that, Fundación Nuestros Hijos wants to raise community awareness about the signs that allows
warning a possible cancer”.
Some of these signs are pale skin, bruises, swelling, unexplained weight loss, fever, persistent cough, difficulty
breathing, constant headache, night sweats, swelling around the eyes, abdominal swelling, bone pain, and
others.
The call also pointed to prevention, considering that the 40% of cancer cases can be prevented with simple
self-care and family care measures, protecting from the sun, healthy eating and doing exercises.
