There were many things I meant to do, but much to my regret; The old year’s gone, and they’re not done, so, I’m not ready yet! There were folks I meant to visit, some were sick and some were not, I had the best intentions, but my intentions came to naught. Am I ready for this new year? You can see that I am not! There were folks I meant to write, and some I meant to phone; But I procrastinated, and now the year is gone. So you can see that I’m not ready for this new year to come on! There were folks I meant to teach and try to save their soul; But I let other things deter me, and didn’t reach that goal. That’s why I’m not ready to roll up the old year’s scroll. God, please forgive my negligence, as truly I repent Of failures in my duty throughout the year just spent. I’ll try to do much better in this new year You have sent! I’ll try to write, and phone, and see the folks I really should; I’ll try to teach the erring of all that’s right and good; And I’ll try to live much better and do the things I should! The old year’s gone, the new one’s here, and I’m not ready yet. There were many things I meant to do, but much to my regret, They weren’t done—but neither am I—I’ll make this the best one yet!
