he bringing back to life of the child at Nain is the miracle of Jesus which our Gospel passage presents to us this weekend.
Jesus was moved with pity. And, through this miracle, the onlookers were easily able to conclude, “God has visited his people.”
Healing miracles, such as this, made it definitively clear that Jesus is the Christ, giving the people of his day the impulse to rely on him
and on his words of truth and life, more and more.
As we now find ourselves in the month of June, and celebrate the Sundays of “Ordinary Time,” which highlight the overarching
theme of the fullness of God’s saving action in our regard, the Word of God prompts us, too, to come to fullness of life, and to allow God
to visit his people in each of us. Have we allowed Christ to touch us, to mold us, to transform us, and bring us life?
Indeed, there is a lot of mystery involved in the journey of life. There is surely a lot of brokenness, suffering, and uncertainty. Often,
our worries and preoccupations hold us captive. Many times we may well be afraid to take our next steps. It would be very easy in the
face of our challenges to have a defeatist attitude, and see life in purely physical terms. Overwhelmed by our circumstances, many throw
in the towel; others just wait for death. This would be unfortunate. But this, of course, is where the mystery of faith comes in.
We all have a deep need to spiritualize our lives, to turn to the transcendent meaning of life, to allow the words, promise, and touch
of Christ to spiritually heal us and to assure us. We need the benefits of faith. We need the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We need to welcome
Christ into our lives and to be a receptive ground for his redeeming love. It is not enough to live a life sprinkled with a bit of religiosity.
Rather, the journey of faith should give us the impetus for living our lives religiously, knowing why we live, and where we are going. God
takes possession of people’s lives when they turn to him in their need and welcome from him the salvation that he alone can provide.
Why would the Lord not be interested in our ultimate welfare? Why would he not be moved to pity as we call out to him with our
deepest longings and hopes? In our walk of faith in Christ, are we truly giving place to the deepest longings our souls? If not, what lesser
intentions do we allow to consume us?
I have seen many negative people, who are more interested in sharing their misery with others than they are concerned about a
spiritual life that brims over into eternal significance. Even many Catholics still presume that the physical life is all there is. Yet, no
matter what our life’s circumstances may be, at some point, we must reflectively put eternity on the radar screen, and begin to see our
lives in spiritual terms. Sometimes our brokenness is precisely that which God uses to drawn us closer to him. Have we allowed God to
visit us while we live in the flesh, so that we may recognize his voice when we meet him in eternity one day? Do the footsteps that we are
leaving behind reveal that God has visited his people in us? Or, have we been more consumed with self, with clinging to things, and with
an unreflective life?
We must be intentional about our life in Christ. We must desire, more and more, to rely on his words of truth and life. The more we
do this, the more we will be able to conclude, “God has visited his people.”

a vuelta a la vida del niño en Nain es el milagro de Jesús que nuestro pasaje del Evangelio nos presenta este fin de semana. Jesús se
compadeció. Y, a través de este milagro, los espectadores eran capaces de concluir fácilmente, "Dios ha visitado a su pueblo."
Milagros de curaciones, como este, hizo que sea definitivamente claro que Jesús es el Cristo, dando a la gente de su época el impulso de cada
vez más depender en él, y en sus palabras de verdad y de vida.
Como ahora nos encontramos en el mes de junio, y celebramos los domingos del "Tiempo Ordinario", que ponen de relieve el tema
general de la plenitud de la acción salvadora de Dios con respecto a nosotros, la Palabra de Dios nos impulsa, también, para llegar a la
plenitud de la vida, y para permitir que Dios visite a su pueblo en cada uno de nosotros. ¿Hemos permitido que Cristo nos conmueva, para
moldearnos, para transformarnos y traernos vida?
De hecho, hay una gran cantidad de misterio envuelto en el viaje de la vida. Hay seguramente una gran cantidad de quebrantamiento,
sufrimiento, e incertidumbre. A menudo, nuestras dudas y preocupaciones nos mantienen cautivos. Muchas veces tenemos miedo de tomar
los próximos pasos. Sería muy fácil cuando tenemos nuestros retos el tener una actitud de derrota, y ver la vida en términos puramente físicos.
Abrumados por nuestras circunstancias, muchos nos damos por vencidos; otros sólo esperamos la muerte. Esto sería una desgracia. Pero esto,
por supuesto, es donde el misterio de la fe entra en acción.
Todos tenemos una necesidad profunda de espiritualizar nuestras vidas, para llevarnos al sentido trascendente de la vida, para permitir
que las palabras, la promesa, y el toque de Cristo nos sane espiritualmente y nos asegure. Necesitamos los beneficios de la fe. Necesitamos los
dones del Espíritu Santo. Debemos acoger a Cristo en nuestras vidas y ser un campo receptivo para su amor redentor. No es suficiente el vivir
una vida espolvoreada con un poco de religiosidad. Más bien, el camino de la fe nos debe dar el impulso necesario para vivir nuestra vida
religiosa, sabiendo por qué vivimos, y hacia dónde vamos. Dios toma posesión de la vida de las personas cuando se dirigen a Él en su
necesidad y le damos la bienvenida por la salvación que sólo Él puede ofrecer. ¿Por qué el Señor no estaría interesado en nuestro bienestar
final? ¿Por qué no pudiera estar conmovido con piedad cuando acudimos a Él con nuestros anhelos y esperanzas más profundas? ¿En nuestro
camino de fe en Cristo, estamos realmente dando lugar a los deseos más profundos de nuestras almas? Si no, ¿qué intenciones más pequeñas
permitimos que nos consuma?
He visto a muchas personas negativas, que están más interesadas en compartir su miseria con otros que el estar preocupados por una
vida espiritual que se desborda en un significado eterno. Incluso muchos católicos todavía suponen que la vida física es todo lo que hay. Sin
embargo, no importa cuáles sean las circunstancias de nuestras vidas, en algún momento, debemos reflexionar y poner la eternidad en la
pantalla del radar, y comenzar a ver nuestras vidas en términos espirituales. A veces nuestro quebrantamiento es precisamente lo que Dios usa
para acercarnos más a Él. ¿Hemos permitido que Dios nos visite mientras vivimos en la carne, de modo que podamos reconocer su voz cuando
nos encontremos con Él un día en la eternidad? ¿Los pasos que estamos dejando atrás revelan que Dios ha visitado a su pueblo en nosotros?

oday’s readings tell the story of two widows. The first
reading relates the plight of the widow with whom
the prophet Elijah stayed; the Gospel tells about the widow
of Nain. In each story, the widow’s only son had died. For
people who lived in those cultures, the son was the only
support of a widow, and the carrying on of the family name
by the son was equal to immortality. A widow whose only
son has died could lose all hope.
Elijah and Jesus are the restorers of hope; they bring
the sons back to life. Saint Paul was metaphorically raised
from the dead when he experienced the conversion and call
from God that he describes in today’s second reading.
What are Christians called to do today? We may not be
able to raise the dead, but perhaps we can rekindle hope
for a single parent. We may not be able to convert a
persecutor like Paul, but if we speak the gospel openly and
gently with our lives, we might touch a life with the Good
News.

te alabaré por eso eternamente

Las Escrituras del hoy nos cuentan la historia de dos
viudas. La primera lectura relata la difícil situación en la
que vivía la viuda con la que el profeta Elías se quedó y el
Evangelio cuenta la historia de la viuda de Naín, en cada
una de estas historias a cada viuda el hijo único de ellas
murió. En la cultura de esos países en ese tiempo, el hijo
era el sustento para la viuda y quien además continuaba la
descendencia familiar que era igual a la inmortalidad. La
viuda cuyo único hijo hubiera muerto perdía toda
esperanza.
Elías y Jesús son los restauradores de esperanza; ellos
devuelven la vida a sus hijos. San Pablo, metafóricamente
hablando, revivió de la muerte a la vida cuando él se
convirtió después de la llamada de Dios de la que él habla
en la segunda lectura.
¿A qué están llamados los cristianos hoy en día? Quizá
no podemos revivir de la muerte, pero quizá podemos
reanimar la esperanza de un padre o una madre soltera.
Quizá no podemos convertir a un perseguidor como Pablo,
pero si abiertamente hacemos vida el Evangelio en nuestras
vidas, podríamos tocar una vida con la Buena Nueva.

Our next concelebrated Healing Mass, during which the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be bestowed, will take place on Tuesday, June 14th at 7:00pm in
church. Anyone approaching surgery, recovering from an operation, possessing
serious health concerns, or bearing the weight of years are especially invited to be
present and partake of the Lord’s assurance of grace.
We will be having a parish yard sale on Saturday, June 11th, from
9:00am to 1:00pm at the parking lot across from the parish office.
All are welcome to peruse the items. As the saying goes,
“one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” Anyone who
would like to rent a space to market and sell their own items can
do so by calling Jorge Perez at our Advancement Office,
305-446-9950. Limited spaces will be available for $10.
The summer project of “painting the church” will commence very
soon. A fresh new color (City of Coral Gables approved), chosen
by a cross section of parishioners, will enhance the clean aesthetic
beauty of our historical church. Needed exterior repairs will
simultaneously be accomplished. The project should be done by
August. Thanks to all who have contributed to make this 90th
anniversary enhancement a reality!
Two seminarians from the Archdiocese of
Cincinnati have taken up summertime
residence at the COTLF rectory house this
weekend. Ambrose and Christian will be
serving for ten-weeks as volunteers in the
Pastoral Care Department of Mercy Hospital,
while enjoying residence with us here at the
parish.
They will be participating in many Spanish
liturgies while they are with us this summer.
They are here to acquaint themselves with
ministry in a multi-cultural setting, and to
work on their Spanish language skills.
We welcome them to Little Flower!
Our next international pilgrimage trip to Israel is scheduled for March 10-19, 2017. Designed by the nationally
renowned Catholic Travel Centre from California, we will embark upon a ten-day spiritual journey, entitled
“A Lenten Retreat with Father Davis in the Holy Land.” A free color brochure is now available. Capacity of 50 seats
on this tour. Bethlehem, Nazareth, Carmel, Caesaria, Cana, Jerusalem, Jericho, the River Jordan, and the Dead Sea
will be among the highlights. Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher too! We will even have a private audience

Last week, our Director of Religious Education, Jorge Santibáñez, attended the
National Conference for Catechetical Leadership in Jacksonville, FL with a group of
16 other catechetical leaders from the Archdiocese of Miami. While there, Jorge was
nominated and elected as the first-ever Parish Catechetical Leader Representative
for the Province of Miami. In this role, Jorge will serve as a voice for all Parish
Catechetical Leaders across the 7 dioceses in the state of Florida within NCCL's
Representative Council. Dating back to 1934, NCCL is the only independent national organization
exclusively dedicated to serving the church’s catechetical mission in the United States, including
the promotion of the annual celebration of Catechetical Sunday each September.

Last week, word came from the Carmelite Mother House in California that our Saint Theresa
Catholic School will be receiving a "new" Principal for the academic year to begin in
August. Sister Rosalie, OCD, will be returning for the second time to serve as Principal of
our treasured school. She is widely known and loved, and highly regarded. Her return-transition
here will be easy and seamless. Meanwhile, Sister Caridad will be returning to California to serve
as a Principal in Long Beach. Our prayers and good wishes accompany her with gratitude for her
term of service to our parish school, wherein she accomplished much: the re-accreditation of our
school, the elevator and window projects, numerous curriculum enhancements and personnel re
-alignments, a new emphasis on technology in teaching and learning, and a faithful enfleshment
of the school's mission statement, fostering a clear Catholic character among our children. We
will also be receiving an additional Carmelite sister in August, increasing their number to four.

As we inaugurate this year’s Fortnight of Prayer for Religious
Freedom initiative (June 18 thru July 2), Archbishop Wenski
will be here to celebrate 10:30am Mass on Sunday, June 19th.
He recently informed us that our parish has been selected to
be the host site for the public veneration of the RELICS of two
famous martyrs, Saint Thomas More and Saint John Fisher.
The relics will be at our parish for nearly 24 hours,
accompanied by the Sisters of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and
Mary, starting in the morning of Sunday, June 19th.
More information to follow.
As part of the special events during the upcoming Fortnight of Prayer, there will be
a liturgy of prayer, adoration, and solemn benediction on Monday, June 27th at
7:00pm. Intercessory prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, as a spiritual assist for
the upcoming national conventions and the elections soon to follow, will be of
particular importance. All are welcome.
Join us in honoring America at our annual Patriotic Prayer
Service on Thursday, June 30th, at 7:30pm in church. As part of
the annual Fortnight of Prayer for Freedom, replete with
hymns that will engender love of nation, sung by our parish
choir, the 45-minute para-liturgical service will include
readings as well as candle-light intercessory prayer. The event
will be followed by a social in Comber Hall. All are welcome.
Religious Education Program
Registration for the 2016-2017 Religious Education Program will begin on Monday,
June 6th by appointment only with either Jorge Santibáñez or Cecilia Miyar in the
Office of Religious Education.
Full details for next year’s program, including registration forms, tentative calendars,
registration fees, required documentation, and an easy-to-use appointment scheduler are
available on the Religious Ed website.
Sacramental Catechesis for First Communion (beginning as early as 1st Grade) and
Confirmation (beginning as early as 7th Grade), as well as Systematic Catechesis for Kinder and
Grades 3 through 6 will once again be offered.
New for 2016-2017: a post-Confirmation High School course will be taught by our DRE,
Jorge Santibáñez, on Wednesday evenings. Designed to be part instructional and part service/
ministerial, the course will continue engaging our newly Confirmed in the life of our parish
throughout the year.
We look forward to another great year of Faith Formation!
