Having trouble viewing this email? Click here Weekly Update Newsletter June 12th, 2013 Dear Jessica, Have you been to Busch Gardens lately? I had the privilege to go to Busch Gardens yesterday to hear about their upcoming attraction, Falcon's Fury. This new ride will be open just in time for Spring 2014. It's definitely a ride for all you daredevils! Personally, I will stick to the SheiKra (ahhh, if only it was longer....). While there I thought about when I visited the park for the first time (did you know it's over 50 years old?) and all the fun I had looking at the exotic animals and plants and going on the wild rides. I still enjoy these attractions and now I've added shopping and going to the shows as well. They even sell plants! Busch Gardens has changed over the years and is always improving. The Beach Chamber sells discounted Busch Gardens tickets, so if it's been a while since you've been I recommend that you head on over and spend an afternoon enjoying this park. It's right in our backyard! Liz LaJoy Presented by: You can follow Sandy Beach on Facebook! Click here to "Like" her page! The Winners Are... When was the last time you took a day to enjoy Caladesi Island? I've spoken with several locals lately and asked that question. We all sing its praises: It's been named the best beach in the country twice in the last ten years. It's only a few miles away and you can get there from here. In fact, getting there is part of the adventure. For those who relish long walks on the beach, head north from Pier 60 and in about 5 miles, you'll be there. You can purchase a cold beverage and lunch on the island and sit Beach Chamber Mascot 2013 Executive Officers Eric Waltz - Chairman of the Board Louie Stavropoulos - Vice Chairman Carol Mears - Secretary Jason Gibertoni - Treasurer Paul Andrews - Past Chairman Frank Dame - Chamber Liaison Darlene Kole -President/CEO SURF STYLE VISITOR CENTER in the sun for a while before the long trek back. It only takes 20 minutes and starts at 10am each morning. Tickets are $14 for adults and $7 for children, but there's currently a $1 off coupon on the website, www.caladesiferry.org. You may stay 4 hrs and take your own cooler and beach accessories. And of course, those who own their own boats can utilize the lovely 108-slip marina on Caladesi. Glide into one of the slips and register at the park office. The cost of a boat slip is $6.00 for the day. You can even spend the night on your boat. The cost to spend the night on your boat in the marina is $1.00 per foot Our Visitor Center at Surf Style Donna Dennis, Manager Kathy Murray, Concierge Donna also does "House Calls" to businesses that have groups of people wanting to learn more about our beautiful piece of paradise. Plan on a Saturday or Sunday and make your reservation in advance at www.TheTropicsBoatTours.com. It's $60/person ($32 for ages 4-12; 3 and under FREE) for the cruise and the entire day on the island. You may park in the marina the whole day for just $4 with the pass from the Tropics kiosk. Bring all your beach paraphernalia and enjoy the 1 ½ hr cruise up to Caladesi. Pass under the Sand Key Bridge and enjoy the outstanding view of the entire length of Clearwater Beach. And watch for the dolphins! Two spotted off the bow on the starboard side. There's another off the stern on the port side. Our intrepid captain briefly explains the history of the islands and their changes thanks to Mother Nature. It's all so beautiful! And there are plenty of beverages on board to stay hydrated. You can stay up top or cruise in the comfort of the cabin below. As we near the island, we view the mangroves, wide variety of birds, and the captain skillfully guides the boat into its pier.
