event. Congratulations to the winning team of Droppo, Auburn, Weigel and Weigel, scoring a
59. With a score of 60, Rosenthal, Kelley, D. Carino and C. Carino took a close second place,
and with a score of 62, Greytak, Martocci, Andrews and Gutner rounded out the awards with
3rd place. Closest to the pin was Jeff Linnell, while Lani Lee swept closest to the pin and closest
to the line for women. The longest drive in the fairway was awarded to John Weigel.
Thank you to all the sponsors, Ashlar of Newtown, Union Savings Bank, People’s United Bank, Curtis Packaging,
Washington Mutual and to Mark Jones of USB! There was an auction of two $100 gift certificates from Berkshire
Motors as well as a 50/50 raffle given at the Business After Hours. All proceeds of the event went to the C. H. Booth
Library. In addition, with great charity, the winner of the 50/50 raffle donated his entire winnings, a total of $330, to
the library as well.
The entire day was enjoyable and a great success, both for the Library, as well as the attendees who were able to
connect with other businesses in the area.

An Update from the Economic Development Commission
The
Economic
Development
Commission celebrates Newtown
businesses at its Tenth Annual Salute
to Business on October 4th at the Rock
Ridge Country Club. The Commission
holds its annual salute to recognize
the important role businesses play
in the community and in Newtown’s
economy.
The event provides an
important opportunity for Commission
members and local business persons to
network and to share ideas and concerns
at this semi formal gathering. The
gathering provides a different venue
which contrasts with the usual meeting
setting at which Commission business is
conducted. This year the Commission
will recognize three businesses who
exemplify the theme of “Rebuilding in
Newtown.”
The Commission is welcoming several
new businesses to Newtown this fall.
Stock Building Supply is now open on
Turnberry Lane where a new storage
yard was added to the former La-ZBoy Furniture warehouse facility.
Architectural Glass Industries is ready
to occupy its new 8,000 square foot
manufacturing facility and the 25,000
square foot commercial/industrial condo
that E&R Commercial LLC is building
should be ready for a late fall or early
winter occupancy. Three new businesses
are already lined up to occupy space in the
condo and there is approximately 10,000
square feet still available for one or two
more businesses. TNT Partners will be
breaking ground shortly for their new
headquarters building in the park.
Two new commercial building have been
constructed in the Borough and will be
ready for occupancy by the end of the
year. Ben and Becky Wei have plans to
open their third restaurant in their new
building on Church Hill Road. Mannen
Japanese Restaurant will be on the ground
level and Fairfield County’s third Fred
Astaire Dance Studio will occupy the
second floor. Raffie Aryeh’s 6,400 square
