Stations of the Cross

Passion by praying the Stations of the
Cross. There are two opportunities to pray
the Stations in English each Friday. Please

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
The Blessed Sacrament is exposed after
the 5 PM Stations of the Cross on
Friday. Exposition will end just before
the beginning of the Polish Stations of
the Cross at 8:00 PM. Please spend a
few quiet moments with Our Lord in
the Eucharist.
Wednesday Evening Mass
During Lent, there is a Mass in English at 5:30 PM in the
Church. If you cannot come to daily Mass in the morning
during Lent, please try to come to Mass in the evening on
this one day per week.

Communal Reconciliation Liturgy
On Tuesday of Holy Week, April 6th, our
parish will celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation in
a communal liturgy appropriate to the season of Lent.
The celebration will begin at 7:00 PM in the Church.
We especially hope all those who have been prevented by fear from coming to confession, those away
from the sacraments for a long time, those who have
felt alienated from the Church or the parish, will participate in this celebration of God’s loving mercy. All will
be asked to acknowledge their sinfulness before God
and the gathered community, to seek mercy, and to
receive the Church’s absolution.
Please pray that through this celebration many will
be brought home, released from the burden of sin and
guilt, and begin healing in Christ.
Confessions are also heard every Saturday from
8:45-9
9:30 AM, and on April 3rd from 3:00-4
4:30 PM.
An Italian confessor will be available on April 3rd also
from 3-4
4:30 PM for those who would like to go to
Confession in Italian.

As members of the parish faith
community, it is our responsibility to
remember both in concrete and spiritual
ways those who cannot celebrate with
us each week because they are ill.
Those who are sick in turn, remember
all of us daily in their prayers and in their sufferings. We
experience many blessings because of their remembering
us. And so ... please remember in your prayers:

Our Financial Support of St. Ferdinand Parish
Sunday, March 20-21, 2004:
Envelopes:
$ 8,380.33
Loose Cash:
$ 4,709.54
TOTAL DONATIONS:
$13,089.87
Amount over/(under) weekly budget: ($1,910.13)
Our Sunday collection increased last week despite a
decrease of $1,000 from envelope users offset by an
unusual increase of $1,500 in loose money donations.
The net result was an increase of $500 over the previous
week. Thank you for your support of St. Ferdinand
Parish.
A reminder that next weekend is Palm Sunday and
your Lenten Alms may be offered in the regular collection
by utilizing the special purple-border envelopes available
on the Ushers’ Stands in the Church and Chapel. Thank
you for your Lenten sacrifices in order to help the poor
and needy in our midst.
Daniel P. Costigan, Parish Business Manager
Why go to confession again & again for a recurring sin?
‘Cause God picks you up as often as you do your child.

The Maternity Fund through Catholic
Charities provides professional counseling services for pregnant teens, women, birth fathers
and their families who are experiencing an
unplanned pregnancy. Medical care planning and
assistance is provided throughout pre-natal,
delivery and the post-natal periods. Clients
receive social services and educational support in
making a plan for the care of their baby. Options that are
explored include parenting, relative placement and making
a plan for adoption. Licensed temporary care is available,
providing birth parents with a safe nurturing home for
their infant while they finalize plans for their child's future.
Adoptive parents, birth parents and maternity staff are
available for speaking engagements to inform the public
about adoption as a positive option.
Family Case Management provides case management of
medical services to pregnant women, infants and children
up to 6 years of age to insure that pregnant women receive
prenatal and postpartum care and infants and children
receive immunizations and other appropriate medical services.
Arts of Living Institute is a school-based program.
This is a cooperative, comprehensive program that
provides services for the Chicago Boards of
Education and Health for pregnant Chicago teens.
The institute offers accredited elementary, high
school, and special education classes, nutrition
classes, referral services and counseling for the pregnant
teen, as well as the expectant father and grandparents.
Parenting training is also part of the curriculum. Teens are
followed up in the aftercare program, where their postnatal health care is monitored for up to 12 months.
Teen Parent Services/TANF Program - These programs
help young parents under 21 who are receiving temporary
assistance for needy families (TANF) to become more selfsufficient and economically independent. The primary goal
is completion of high school or the equivalent. They must
attend classes or be actively enrolled in a GED

Dear St. Ferdinand Parishioners and Father
Cortesi —
Thank you for the February sharing check of
$1,055.00 for our parish and our ministries. We
appreciate your constant caring and sharing.
One of our parishioners who works with unwed mothers is looking to rent office space in our
old convent. We can use her program around here.
Right now she wants to begin in May.
You’re in our prayers and in a special Mass I
offer each month.
With thanks,
Father Ray
